Dear Peter, thank you for this interesting video. This is exactly on the money. TS-590SG user. Mac user. Your step-by-step explanation was very clear for me until you mentioned the USB cable connection between your computer and the radio. Is the USB connection required for the SDR/waterfall display? I am an enthusiastic learner - only a general for less than 2 years, so please forgive the noob question. 73 KQ4IXD
It's not required but if you want CubicSDR to follow the radios frequency then yes. Otherwise as you change the radios frequency, you'll have to change CubicSDRs frequency. Upper and lower side band are a manual selection on Cubic SDR anyway. Your radio probably came with a USB cable and your the radio also has a regular serial port you can use also. You just have to buy the USB to serial cable. also the Silicon Labs Drivers are located here. www.silabs.com/developers/usb-to-uart-bridge-vcp-drivers?tab=downloads Thanks for watching and subscribe. 73's
Thanks for sharing. I also have a Kenwood 590, but will be hooking it up to Windows 10. I understand that the computer will control the radio. But I have a question. If I tune the Kenwood, will that also cause the Cubic SDR to stay in sink or will I need to do something additional ? Thank you for your guidance.
CubicSDR should follow the radio also as far as frequency, mine does. The one manual thing you'll have to do is select upper or lower sideband. I plan on doing another video using FLRig and CubicSDR together. It would probably be OmniRig on windows. Thanks for watching.
@@KJ5AJB-jz3dx Thank you so very much for your reply. I am pretty sure I need to download some drivers for windows 10. I will give you some feedback on how successful I am in a couple weeks. (Limited budget. need to order the SDR) Again Thank you and have a great day 73.
