Well Folks, an update on 12 is long overdue... So why not do one on 12's Fiftieth Birthday! That's right, on 5/20/21 our Kenworth K100 cabover is 50 years old! We'll get you up to date, and explain why the May 18th, 1980 eruption of Mt. St. Helens has played such a pivotal role in the history of this milk truck.
12 is a 1971 Kenworth K121 Cabover with a Cummins V903 and a 10 speed transmission.

It's sad that the trucking industry is not what it used to be but I guess good things don't last forever. Glad you are keeping this one alive.

My Dad would probably say the same thing about today’s trucking industry, just like my Grandpa probably said the same about my Dad’s days in trucking. But, I feel honored I can preserve just a little bit of the past. Thanks for watching!

They literally don’t build things like they used too. The stuff was built tough!

It's worth it to fix the old stuff rather than go new, especially when there is sentimental value and history along with usefulness. Very cool truck, and a neat story as well.

I don’t suppose “Snipe” is in reference to Navy or Coast Guard slang, is it? That old stuff is built well. Easier to maintain too!
@snipe757

@@vnthomas16 it is a reference to gangly, long-beaked wading birds.

A nicely hand painted clover mountain dairy logo, on the sides. Show case #12 and the dairy. Thanks for the video, I really enjoyed watching.

I actually still have a set of original door decals for the family business, so I’ll probably use those. Glad you enjoyed the video!

It feels nice to keep a Father sentimental belongings through generations, My Father was not superman, But he was cool , he was easy to find him down town , I followed the smell of the cigars he used to smoke and there he was at the produce market , Hope to see him again in resurrection day,, I like that type of trucks , I probably buy one in the near future, and drive across the Nation , it feels more secure when you are higher watching the small cars . Finally , that one you have there looks awesome .👍

Today's society has lost value in the word "Father", maybe we should look at the word again as demonstrated by your respect for Virginia, your work ethic, and your daily appreciation of life! Thank you for your service to our country.

My Dad was a good man. I miss him dearly. And my Grandfather too. I’m so lucky to have been raised by them, and also to be able to have these things to connect us all in our family’s history. Thank you for your kind comments.

Love the old iron. I hope I live long enough to see it finished. Nice. I was in Yakima the day Mt.Saint Helen blew. I barely made it out . Had problems with the air breather, plugging up, I went through a dozen filters before I got back to 84 off 97. That was quite a trip. I was driving a cab over first year 9670 international at the time.
@vnthomas16
@vnthomas16 3 года назад
Yes, Yakima got hit hard! My family had a yard in Sunnyside (12 was stationed there for awhile) and it was rough getting milk from the Yakima valley up to Spokane. Ended up using a lot of pantyhose over the air intakes as a pre-filter. Glad you enjoyed the video! Thanks for watching!

You should bring it to truck shows after you finish it. With its history and the picture of it driving through the ash a lot of people would be interested in seeing it in person.

Great to have you showcase 12. Looking pretty healthy at the half century mark. Obviously important to you. Following you to shows would be interesting. Also a good advertising tool for the farm and dairy. 12's history in milk hauling and with your family fits appropriately into your current operation, if only symbolicly. Hope the herd is all healthy. Weather looks good in your corner of the world.Best wishes Virginia and Stacey.

Yes, we FINALLY got some rain last night... with hopefully more to come. It’s been very dry. The animals are all doing well, so we’re all just getting back into the routine. It would be fun to take 12 to a show someday... Not too far though. I’m limited by how far I can go and be back in time for milking! Haha! Thanks for stopping by!

Those day cab cabover semis are tiny. I miss seeing those o cabovers out on the roads here in the USA. Back in the 1980s half the semis I saw were cabovers & the other half conventional cabs. Those were the days. 🚛🚛🚛🚛🚛🚛🚛🚛🚛🚛🚛🚛😎👍

Happy b-day to that ole girl! still, no luck on my side trying to find a single screw unit with a 903, but I did find a local GMC Astro with an 8v71. lol. anyway, that's awesome Cummins provided orig paperwork. a lot of ppl tell me that after so many failures wit those engs they don't really sell parts for that reason or just deny that those engs existed something like that. anywoo have a nice weekend.
@vnthomas16
@vnthomas16 3 года назад
Interestingly, the 903 is still in production. A 43 year run (and going) is pretty impressive for any engine. Emissions laws in the mid-80’s took it out of highway truck. They’re still used pretty extensively in marine and agriculture, but the current customers are all military. It’s a good engine, most people who bag on it have no real experience with the engine. I feel in even the short time I’ve had this truck that there has been an increase in aftermarket 903 parts. Thanks for watching!

Great to see the Kenworth in a video again! My wife said that Cummins is a great engine. Her company gets them shipped in for rebuilds and other work frequently. They go through the engines and equip them with new governors and actuators that they make, and then send them off to be put back into service.
@vnthomas16
@vnthomas16 3 года назад
I like Cummins, but I also love the sound of a 2-stroke Detroit. The 903 is a good engine. Currently in its 53rd year of continuous production, but now it’s for military use only. My first experiences with the 903 was in the military actually. I’m looking forward to getting the cab jacked up and cleaning up the engine!
