Kenworth K100 Resto episode 4 - GMC Crackerbox leaves 

Not many people consider the grease nipple when they are replacing the cab mounts. Well done that man. This is going to be a magical truck, with such good things done already. of course it is sad to see the Crackerbox depart, but this one is pretty special looking already and I'm sure your fertile mind is producing all manner of marvellous things to do with it.

Sad, in a way, to see Crackerbox drive away. Maybe it will turn up at a show one of these days.

Good to see you start on the K100. By the way Eastwood has a steering wheel repair kit. I did my 54 Dodge pickup steering wheel and it turned out pretty good.

Kind of sad to see Cracker Jack leave, but life goes on . The K 100 will be interesting, and maybe fun to drive. Ok, for me nearly all big trucks were fun to drive. Just maybe the K 100 will be more fun than the Crackerbox. I think you could have a good welding shop build a new cab mount for much less than used mounts. Sad to see the Crackerbox go, but nice seeing progress on "Grasshopper". My 76 K125 has the passenger side (Aus built) cab pivot bolted on top of the forged tow pin mount, while the drivers side is a large forged piece, both pivot and spring hanger part of it bolted to the frame. With little modification a W900a Gullwing will bolt straight up. Grasshopper would look the part with a straight alloy bumper assuming you can find one ? Great vid Dane.

Make sure the cab is in line with the frame and same height from side to side so you get an accurate measurement

Wow! That truck really is complete! I love the tanks on it!!! The little 80 gallon tanks are super cool! I think the coffee brown on the interior would be sweet. Great Video! For the cab hinge I would recommend using a pin that has ground grease channels similar to how springs mount at pivots for suspensions. The pin could be drilled from the end to around the middle where it would be cross drilled. You could then tap the end of the pin for a zerk fitting and the grease will get to the middle of the pin preventing seizing. If I had my lathe and mill up and running i would make a set of pins for you but I dont right now.

Man, you broke my heart by letting Crackerjack go. (But at least you appear to have saved the horn cord that fellow made for you and put it in the 359) Anyway I get it. My Dad was always doing that to me in the 60's. He'd get a car or truck I really liked, get really attached to, and then he'd flip it for something else. So I can handle the heartbreak. The '66 is no less historic or worthy.

Hey Dane! I kind of felt your heart drop when You were seeing Cracker Box go. I liked the way you moved on to Grasshopper. I did notice the tag on Grasshopper, & noted it was from the Old Dominion; So I kind of like it; I also noticed the cordless drop light you were using with the magnet at the base; I know that because I have one just like it. I bet your happy to have Grasshopper in the lounge with old man winter reminding everyone who's in charge. I still like watching your videos when I get the chance; Because your always going to get a laugh ( It only took 5 hours ) That was a good one. Take care, & I'm going 10-10! 10-4!

Well, I bought an old truck and this Saturday I'm flying to GA to get it and then drive it around 10hrs back home to Indiana. Hope I make it no problem. It's an 84 International 4370

Oh that vintage Crackerbox from ABF Freight is a classic piece of history! You just have to repaint the yellow lettering on the doors. Glad you found those vintage GMC mudflaps with the vintage spiky GMC lettering. Reminds me of the old GMC lettering on their former truck dealership at 222 Spadina Avenue in downtown Toronto. The dealership moved further west in 1970, but the old dealership remained there until the 1980s. The old lot became a Chinese market with pagodas in the ‘70s.

Might be good to have two of those frames made while you're at it, because the other side probably isn't in much better shape. Probably won't be much more for 2 than just one, if made at the same time.

I hope you get a chance to check out the 1/25 scale 69 F100 kit I am working on... It is a beautifully detailed kit and I am hoping to have her buttoned up tomorrow...

So Grasshopper is in the garage, but until he's running, everything else seems to be blocked in. Guess that's a good incentive to work hard on Grasshopper. That bumper is likely too damaged to really look nice again. Parked it because the owner wasn't happy with the Jimmy Carter administration and fuel prices... a lot of people weren't happy about the economy in 1979! Looking forward to seeing more progress with Grasshopper.

to fix the cracks in the steering wheel you can use PC7 epoxy putty because you can form it with your hand then you can shape it to the wheel, sand it down then repaint the wheel.

Nice start on the cleanup and detail inspection of what you have . Regarding bumper straightening .......Dean Wilhelm of Twinsburg used to have a bumper straightening press 20 years ago.........but he sold the business to Penske this past year .Their servive may.......or may not be available........and affordable . But you may have connections with Roger .

That k100 looks like a real diamond in the rough. Anxious to see what you do with it.

That tow truck looks to be an old Ford LTL9000!;one of the many "holy grails" in the world of trucks as they are quickly becoming rare and harder to come by,because they just don't make them anymore. I happen to be working on the AMT 1/24 scale Ford LTL 9000 kit (formerly an Italeri kit) which also happens to be one of the many "holy grails" when it comes to 1/24 & 1/25 scale plastic model big rig kits as there aren't too many kit manufacturers that produces them other than AMT,Revell U.S.A,Revell Germany,and Italeri.

Eastwood sells a kit to restore steering wheels that includes the epoxy and paint.

If you can save the bumper u can rwchrome it advanced plating Knox ville teenna see

Still has the serious utility theme of the gone GMC.. If it's in the right year bracket they sometimes have a valve that shuts off air to the front brakes for bad weather. Old enough, and some were made without front brakes. Look forward to the smoke & noise :⁠-⁠)

It was one cool truck! I bought my old Crackerbox back from my brother, so I might take on getting it running again in the future. I just couldn’t pass up on it! Did you get the KW from a yard that you had recorded previously? I can’t recall when/where you got it for some reason. It was a shame that it has sat for all those years, but I’m glad that you know more history of the truck from the previous owner. That’s so cool! It sure takes me back to the 69 KW K100 that my dad bought. I loved the truck & cried my eyes out when it caught fire. I never could find any pics of it. Love those old KWs! That steering wheel should come out so well when you’re done. Give us all the data on that process. A lot of the internals will have to be rebuilt/replaced if critters lived in it. Using steel wool will give life to a lot of things! It’s coming alive, ONE piece at a time! Great stuff! Your winter will not be dull! Blessings!🥰😎✌️

This gacked hinge&bracket assembly proves the value of possessing fabrication skills and tools, or having buddies who do and are willing to help you out! “Grasshopper” has a ton of potential, could very well turn out to be a fantastic hobby truck! Are you planning on full bodywork for the cab and paint?

Better off scraping the chassis and find a good roller and swap the cab all those parts are obsolete in the rears just took a 4 bag kenworth suspension to the scrap yard
