Hey guys! I'm going to be spending the next few weeks training a new driver. Her name is Alison, she drove trucks in the Army and has spent the last year doing LTL freight. Up until her first day on this job she had never been on a construction site. I have been there, until I became a hydroseeder operator back in 2007 I had never been on a construction site either. I'm super excited to teach her everything that I can about this industry. Follow us as we start off our training, today she learns the controls on the Kenworth T880 Super solo dump truck.
Trucking and Construction.

@@techman9634 that's the way I would train too. I'd also let my trainee know that mistakes can and will happen, because we're human. The best we can do is to work safely and learn from our mistakes. I had one kid maybe 17 look so scared that I was gonna yell at him over a mix-up. I said "Buddy, the reason I'm here is to help you learn, not yell at you because you didn't know, take a breath and lets get back to it."

Same here. I tried my hardest but after two weeks she was too scared to back up into a dock or drive at night. Unfortunately I couldn't pass her in good conscious. The boss went with her for a day and she refused to drive and that was the end of her career with them.

Awesome to begin to share those little insights and understanding that came the hard way. That is how we trained in the cockpit of army helicopters in VietNam over 50 years ago. As in "let me share those things no one will ever tell you because no one ever took the time to tell me" That is what training is about to prepare the trainee for the unexpected.

Great job showing Allison the ropes. It just shows that your employer has confidence and trust in you. In all my years of OTR driving I never had to train another driver. I did have to take a couple of guys out once for their pre employment test. One of the first things I told each of them before we left the yard was to make damm sure that I arrive back in the same way I left. 🤣. They both passed and got me back to the yard. Waiting on your next video. Stay safe and stay healthy. 🙏💕👍🇱🇷

If it wasn't for my mom's cousin's husband I don't think I ever would have learned how to drive a big rig but I did learn all of his not so good ways of how to be a truck driver even the logs

Please Please show any new drivers how to disconnect “kill” battery’s on any truck when needed. I had a dump and pup miss a corner in front of my house. The steering was ruined and the engine was off but the freaked out driver”I would be freaked out myself” . The fuel pump kept pumping and even the fire department could not stop it spraying without disconnecting the battery’s. Some trucks have a disco switch but in hind sight pulling the key even from a wrecked truck stops the fuel pump. Since then I reccomened pulling the key and putting it by a brake or gas pedal.

Y’all be careful out there. Nice training job, but she really doesn’t seem to be too enthused about the in’s & out’s about driving. What state if this? Lots of axles!! What’s your tare weight? How many tons can you legally haul? Here in the Nashville area, it’s 85% tri axle, and some quads; I can haul just over 22 tons. I’m 29,640 lbs empty. I drive a 2015 Charcoal Gray T880 8LL transmission with a 600 horse C-15 tri axle. I have a new 2025 T880 on order with an Allison 6 speed 🤮 and the 500 horse Cummins X-15 under the hood. I prefer a manual over a automatic; I feel I have more control over the truck
