In a landmark ruling, the Kenya High Court has decided in favor of Javeria Sharif, the widow of the late Arshad Sharif. The court found that the Kenyan government violated the human rights of Arshad Sharif, who was killed by two GSU police officers on October 23, 2022.

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) failed to prosecute the officers involved, violating the victim's rights.
The court ordered the police oversight authority and the DPP to complete the investigation and charge the officers involved.
Javeria Sharif was awarded ten million local currency with interest until full payment, despite her not requesting compensation.
The court emphasized that the use of deadly force should be a last resort, only when another person's life is in imminent danger.
The court also noted that Javeria was not provided with investigation details post the incident, violating her right to information.
Javeria expressed relief and gratitude, saying, "Winning this case feels like a dream. I've endured immense pain since losing my husband in such a brutal manner."
This ruling marks a significant step in seeking justice for Arshad Sharif and highlights the importance of accountability and transparency in law enforcement.
