I voted Ruto in with his wonderful words and promises. Every year has been a dissapointment with nothing to show for the taxes. Add insult to injury is his lavish and flamboyant personal life. We are Africans steuggking everyday to make honest living not Europeans in a strong economy economy. If he has been lying all along we will vote him out. The youth however will not wait to vote.

That’s not how that works. The IMF can’t order a nation to do anything but of course not paying back loans has consequences simply because no one else would want to lend to someone who doesn’t even try to pay them back.

@@kianlakchi7182 The IMF/World Bank can put measures in place which 'force' the country to implement fiscal adjustment policies, before the can access a loan. In Kenya in the 1990s, the IMF asked the government to reduce the public spending and wage bill as a precursor to securing a loan, and so there were retrenchments done in the public (civil) service.

@@kandisphere8828 you’re completely right however Kenya was never forced to accept those terms and therefore the loan. As a bank the IMF needs some sort of guarantee countries pay them back. Kenya simply borrowed more than it could reasonably afford which in part brought them today to where they are. In essence those “measures” are the IMF’s way of guaranteeing that Kenya can pay them back even if that leads to austerity in Kenya. Of course this defeats part of the purpose of the IMF’s existence which is to help poor nations develop, but that’s a discussion for another day …

The same government which got loaned by imf made no difference. No new projects. Instead, 80% of the money went into the politicians pockets. They can't suddenly increase taxes without proper accountability

And that is not even the problem. The problem is what the taxes will do. They're proposing a creation of both the first lady and second lady's office which will be financed by over 1.2 billion, Renovate DP'a office with almost a billion shillings, Get cars for them, it's more of taxes will finance their lavish lifestyle. It's not worth it

Our politicians just loot the loans, we pay for them, we don't need loans here... What's the point of taking the loans if a million dollars is being looted per day... In short we haven't asked for those loans so instead of listening to your western media, understand our grievances, the loans aren't for us it's for the president and his goons

The problem with this decision is that those who have money, if you upset them too much, they will migrate elsewhere and pay taxes where it suits them. The people are screwed, pay if they want to live.

Now Kenya is better than most African countries but it's still a 3rd world country where there's massive unemployment, drought and hunger not to mention rampant insecurity.

@@starlightHTI stayed in my country for years before moving out recently. I’ll explain this simply. The country has one of the highest unemployment rates. A large majority can’t afford comfortable living both and are struggling to afford food. The coming of Covid and global wars dampened the situation, unemployment shot up as people were laid off and inflation went up. The former government had subsidies to ease the burden, when the new one took over he removed these subsidies. Which the people agreed because he said they are expensive. The economy has not recovered and the struggles are still there. So increasing the taxes would make daily living beyond the population to be honest.

Feel shame, the fact that we that 3rd world country are fighting for our rights and standing up to a puppet president is a joke to you, says more about your idiocy more than our courage. This man is a known murderer, known thief, known executioner, you think he wins elections?? He wins by intimidating everyone. At least here in Kenya we have the courage to fight, we have enough knowledge to see where this thief is costing us. We are not wrong for fighting for change.
