Ingredients
Tender ladies finger /Bhindi-12
Grated Coconut-6tbsp
Coriander seeds-1 1/2tbsp
Fenugreek seeds-10
Dry red chilli-4
Curry leaves-1 string
Turmeric powder-2pinch
Asafoetida Powder-2pinch
Small Onion-10
Grated Jaggery or sugar- 1tsp (opt)
Salt-
Tamarind-gooseberry size
Water-3cup
Coconut Oil-3tbsp
For Seasoning
Coconut Oil-1tsp
Mustard seeds-1/4tsp
Dry red chilli-2
Soak tamarind in one glass of hot water and keep aside..
Wash vendakka thoroughly and strain and then wipe with kitchen tissue..
Then cut vendakka in medium pieces (one medium vendetta into 3 pieces )
Heat 2-3 tbsp of oil and just shallow fry the pieces for 2 to 3 minutes in medium flame..
Then remove from the oil and keep them in a kitchen tissue..
Now to the same oil fry dry red chilli until the raw smell goes ..Remove it
Then roast coriander seeds and fenugreek seeds for 2 minutes ..
If u find oil is not enough can add more oil and then roast small onions too..
Keep everything aside .. Now roast grated coconut until it became golden brown colour and crispy stirring in between ..otherwise coconut will burn
At this point add turmeric powder ,curry leaves, asafoetida powder and mix well and remove from the flame and allow to cool..
After cooling down in a blender add roasted coconut ,coriander seeds,fenugreek seeds,curry leaves,dry red chilli and make a fine paste by adding enough water ..
Then take a non stick pan and heat oil and splutter mustard seeds and curry leaves ..
To this add tamarind water (strain the water ) .. Boil for two minutes ..
Then add ground paste and add enough water and mix well..Then add salt and allow to boil for 5 minutes ..
Now add fried vendakka and small onion and grated jaggery .. If u don’t like u can avoid jaggery
Check the taste .. Add salt if needed..So allow to cook for 15 minutes or until vendakka get cook well..Consistency should medium thick..After cooling it will become more thick..
So the authentic vendakka theeyal is ready to serve ..
Transfer to a serving bowl and sprinkle some curry leaves ..Serve with rice …
This recipe is for 3 to 4 people ..

Hello Veena, Theeyal is one of my all-time favorite dishes. I live in the US, and every time my mom visits, I've had her make it for me. I've always wanted to learn how to make it but never got the chance. Today, thanks to you, I made theeyal with eggplant, and it turned out to be awesome. I think you should have the intro ....on the whole internet is non human....there will be connection between the voice and the face...I like the way you explain...I feel connected to Kerala...mum likes to have that typical Kerala mudpot curries....you are a hell of a life saver...since being born and brought abroad the way I cook will may not come out like the parka Kerala...thanks

I love your explanation and experience in cooking.u goes on speaking while cooking which I like.chechi u are down to earth.secondly theeyal is not so made in thrissur. my in-laws house is in Thrissur there they don't make theeyal u too told that your mom don't make.but in my mother place that is in palaghat there theeyal we make.

ഞാൻ തീയ്യൽ ഉണ്ടാക്കി നോക്കി കൊള്ളാം ....പിന്നെ വീണ ചേച്ചിയെ കാണണം ചേച്ചിയുടെ ചിരി കാണാൻ നല്ല രസമാണ് ...... കുറച്ചു കഷ്ടപ്പാട് ഞങ്ങൾക്ക് വേണ്ടി ചെയുന്നെ ....ഞാൻ കറിയുണ്ടാക്കുന്നത് എത്ര കഷ്ടപെട്ടിട്ടാണെന്നോ വീട്ടിൽ വിളിച്ചു ചോദിച്ചിട്ടാണ് ....ചില സമയത്ത് അതിന് പറ്റാറില്ല അങ്ങനെയാണ് ഞാൻ യൂട്യൂബിനെ കൂട്ടുപിടിച്ചത് ...അങ്ങനെ വീണചേച്ചിയെ കിട്ടി വളരെ സന്തോഷം ....

Veena ee Curry njan um nattil ente twin sister um undakki. Njangal 2perukkum vayarinu sugam illarunnu ethu kazhichittu. I thought tat it's becoz of my fault may b my lady's finger or any other ingredients went wrong. But my twin sister who is in Kerala also tried this and she also got the same problem . May b this combo is not suitable to some people. I never hav any issues with any food items. I always follow ur channel. It was awesome.im a sincere subscriber of urs. This is way happens after I tried this recipe.just need to inform u my opinion after trying this recipe

8th Jan 2017 post cheyyatha video aanu vendakka thiyal. Ennallum njan abhiprayam parayugayanu. Veenaye kaanumbol oru santhosham thonaarundu. Entho oru aduppam. Mun janma bhandham? Shajehanu thiyal velliya ishtamanu. This is a real good recipe as it has the right amount of sweetness and sourness. And just enough chilli hot. Perfect as usual. Oru negative remark ezhuthaan pettunnillallo 🤔

Orannam undu. Varthamanam parayunnathin idaye kayam, manjal podi idaan parayaan maranathu. Oru paathram koode kazhukeendi vannu😐. Veenyude varthamanam kelkaan madichittu sound mute aakanavarkku pani kittum! 😆 Ayio njan samsarikkunathin idaye athu idaan parayaan maranu poyi - enna dialogue avaru kelkilla🤣
