In Ep-6 of Kerala Travel series, we covered the tourist places of Trivendrum, Kovalam, Poovar & Kanyakumari.
We started from Varkala, visited Anjengo fort on the way.
Then stopped at Shangumugham Beach, adjacent to Thiruvananthapuram Airport. It's a well maintained Beach, with a 100 feet long Mermaid greeting U at the entrance. Unique two colors of sea water make it a must see.
Then, we went to Padamnabh temple, in the city centre. Quite a number of Tourist places r in the vicinity of this temple. It's said to be the world's richest temple. Here u hv to change cloths before entry, Dhoti for Males & Saree for females. U can bring them from your home or can buy from the temple.
Paid locker facility is provided by the temple for keeping clothes, cameras, mobiles etc. These are not allowed inside temple.
Temple also provides pay & use toilet facilities.
As a lot of people come to Temple, so the facility of Special Darshan @ of ₹500/- pp is also there. Usually this also needs a bit time.
Sunil wax museum is near the temple parking.
Pazhavangaadi Ganapathi temple is also nearby.
Then we went to Trivendrum Zoo complex. There are 7-8 places in this complex. Zoo, Aquarium, Napier Museum, KCS Paniker Gallery, Raja Ravi Varma Art Gallery, Natural History Museum all are located adjacent to eachother.
Then, we went to Saphalayam Shopping complex. Adjacent to it was the famous flea market of CONNEMARA.
It was already afternoon. We had lunch at Mothers Veg Plaza, that serves Kerala's famous Sadhya. It was worth tasting. Charges ₹260/- pp (unlimited 25-30 items)
Then, we checked in our Hotel at Kovalam - Sagara beach resort. good property, quite near to Kovalam Beach. Room & food was good.
In the evening, we went to light house beach. Kovalam beach has 3 parts. Light house beach is Southern part of Kovalam beach.This part is quite popular among foreign tourists. It has a good beach side market also. But beach was too crowded.
Next day, after having good breakfast at Hotel, we headed for Poovar Backwaters or u can say Poovar Island. We had enquired here & there, about Boating in Poovar backwaters, but we didn't get any honest or rational reply. The rates asked were too high , say 4k! 5k! 6k!!! just for 2 hour Boating. However on the net, some poovar backwater sites were offering 2 hr Boating in 2k or 2.5k, but we were not sure about the authenticity. I mean wheather the person will turn up or not! Where to find him!
So, we decided to book on the spot only. We had a found an authentic looking name on the net & decided to go there with the help of Google map, because our Driver also was reluctant to find out that address. When we reached there. We saw that it was a house, with a well maintained jetty along with good parking.
This fellow - Mr Robert, was a thorough gentleman. He asked only ₹1500/- for 2 hr motorboat & told that two hrs were more than sufficient to cover all the points of Poovar Backwaters.
Mr. Dass, our sailor, was also a fine person. He tried his best to make our Poovar Backwaters or Poovar Island Boating experience memorable.
Mangroove forests, AVM canal, Golden Sand Beach, Estuary, Poovar Island Resort, floating restaurants, elephant rock, Pieta Sculpture of Golden Sand Beach, we saw, clicked & enjoyed everything.

Next day, we headed for Kanyakumari.
All taxis (not personal vehicles) need a TN permit for going to Kanyakumari & this is the duty of your driver to get it beforehand.
Just to mention, charges ₹360/-
Just short of Kanyakumari, lies Sun set point of Kanyakumari.
On its North end is a Christian Monument - Mysterious Mother Mary.
After seeing the Sun set point in the morning 😜, we marched ahead.
Next lies Kanyakumari Light house.
It is open to public full day ( Normal office hrs) & has a lift.
It is a must see. Because view from the tower is just astonishing.
U can see all, all the things at one go and from one place only.
Better if U hv a good telescope .
We could see from here:-Thiruvalluvar's Statue, Vivekand RM, Gandhi Mandapam, Kamaraja Mandapam, Observation Tower & a mesmerizing panoramic view of Kanniyakumari.
Then, we reached at the end point of NH 44 cross. Almost all the tourist places of Kanyakumari lie within less than half km radius of this cross.
We couldn't go to Vivekand RM & Thiruvalluvar Island because ferry service was stopped due to high winds. Visited Vivekandpuram also.
View from Vattakotai fort was Mesmerizing.Vattakotai fort deserves a top place in the must see list of Kanyakumari. Visited Tirupati devsthanam of Kanyakumari. We saw Thanumalayan temple in Suchindram.
