HSV Epithelial Keratitis treatment: The most frequently used drugs are aciclovir ointment and ganciclovir gel, each administered five times daily. Trifluridine is an alternative but requires instillation up to nine times a day. Idoxuridine and vidarabine are older drugs that are probably less effective and more toxic. Oral antiviral therapy (e.g. aciclovir) is indicated in most immunodeficient patients, in children and patients with marked ocular surface disease. Was misdiagnosed having general red eye, 4 years ago at the eye clinic. Herpetic corneal keratitis followed and I developed an ulcer. Was treated first with liquid tears eye drops for the red eye by a very young opthamolagist, the following week I saw a more experienced opthamolagist and was aggressively treated with prednisone 40. Today I still have to use mild FML steroidal eye drops to manage the condition the keratitis caused. The drops are now causing a cataract to develop in the one eye. The FML drops just stop inflammation from coming back. They only manage the condition not cure it.. The difficulty is reducing the drops from one per day to every other day and then stopping taking all together. Started doing eye strengthening exercises to improve things..The problem is the damage the ulcer did to the edge of the cornea. It's created something the immune system reacts to causing inflammation. Hope to find an answer to be steroid drop free eventually

and i also.have the red eye with a dark red around cornea. im 33 yrs old been wearing comtact since 16

I have one in my right eye, my doctor doesn't know about it, he offered me, Virgan eye gel. it is an anti viral. I don't have Herpes history. does, Anti viral drops or gel able to help, bacterial keratitis just in case it is a bacteria.

Why cornea affected by ulcer is not self healing like in case of abrasion?
