luke timothy Well, ok but that was not that far before. The first turbojet powered airplane took off in 1939, almost the same year nazis came with the V1 missile. So basically, both kerbals technologies came for us at the same time in a practical way. Anyway, what really bothers me in the tech tree more than rockets vs aircrafts is manned vs unmanned.

Actually I was wrong : the V2 missile was the first liquidfuel propelled missile, V1 was powered by a jet engine, so jet engine came before liquid fuel rockets in operation. (5 years apart)

Daniel Wilson Ah, no I did not. Though here's the thing, the first American mission to space, as I recall it from my history textbooks, was manned. I suppose that's the feel KSP was going for.

71tofu Actually the satellite Explorer 1 (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Explorer_1 ) is the first thing the US ever got into orbit and it was unmanned. It doesn't make sense at all to send living beings in such a dangerous and unknown environment before you send unmanned craft there to actually investigate this unknown environment.

Yes, I'm not exactly happy with the choice of incompatiblity with other mods. I'd be quite happy if someone came up with an alternate tech tree which focussed on probes early on and was more compatible with the rest of the mod community.

Scott Manley I love RoverDude's Sounding Rockets mod for providing some early career mode science as an alternative to the usual starting game tricks. Once other parts start showing up, it's possible to make an Explorer 1 type satellite with them.

That's true, but you don't only play games, you do also explain real physics, and that does interess most of the people, so I think it's unfair that someone like you has only 350k subs. Not everyone subscribes. In fact, this is my first and only subscribe (just recently) even though I've been watching his videos for a long time. If I hadn't found this channel, I'd probably still be scratching my head trying to figure out how to get into orbit!! Scott likely has many times more fans and even more people who know about him than he does subscribers.

Maybe, but there's always sandbox mode if you don't like the linear progression. Personally, I'm interested in trying this one. I'm pretty noob at KSP. In fact, I've never made a lunar touchdown. I've came damn close, but I tend to run out of full when getting to a lunar orbit. With that said, I don't really mod it much, and I wouldn't know where to begin. This mod looks interesting, however, since it can take somebody like me, and get a whole different experience out of what is essentially the exact same game.

Well said indeed. Especially on a Scott Manley comment section, where many of the viewers have seen Scott clear through the stock game in 2 missions! This mod would require a papal edict (or clever editing) to make early exploration profitable. The intent (and result) is to enhance the satisfaction of completing milestones and rewarding thoughtful design. I recall the first time I successfully achieved orbit in this mod as one of my most enjoyable KSP experiences, after having done it hundreds of time prior in stock and FAR based games. Since then it's been expanded a great amount and balanced relentlessly. It's not going to appeal to everyone, but I have found that those who give it an honest go tend to find themselves preferring BTSM to stock or other mod setups.

Because bouncing around the video trying to find where he stops reading it is so much easier than Scott not reading something we are perfectly capable of reading after we've paused it...

Then we wouldn't hear Doctor Snidely who has left the R&D for accounting instead :P

I actually really appreciate Scott reading the mod's text, because i frequently watch his videos while doing something else, so i can't go out of the way to pause and go to fullscreen so i can read all the text that appears.

Its only this highly linear in the beginning, as you progress to interplanetary it opens up more.
