Kernmaster was the odd man out in the kernmantle splicing game since it is composed of a braided core. For this reason I spliced it like a double braid rope as I'd heard of others doing it. Based on the testing you will see that using the double braid splicing instructions verbatim is not recommended. I got some advice from Samantha (@the_splice_witch on IG) on how to adapt the double braid style for a rope that gets all its strength from the core. Also I spliced another sample that gave me a new idea for how to splice kernmaster, so watch to the end to catch that. Thanks for watching!

Thank you so much! I can’t wait to get the next round of splices back. They’ve been mailed to Arbsession and I hope to get them back soon.

Awesome video! Super stoked to see the break test! I watched this while splicing some beeline funny enough. Keep splicing and show us what you got! #subscribed

Have you tested the whip locking stitch? Ive seen only a few others apply this to their climbing lines and curious if you are using it. Thanks!

I do whiplocking on all my splices, it doesn’t add any notable strength it just prevents milking from disturbing the integrity of the splice.

Thanks for your research efforts and sharing your knowledge. I wonder if a plastic eye would help longevity.

Thank you! I’ve thought about adding thimbles to my splices. I agree that they would promote longevity, but most of these splices on flip lines don’t make it that long anyways. In my experience the rope is going to wear out on wood abrasion or accidental hand saw collisions well before the hardware in the splice damages the rope.

I was just thinking about buying this rope! Once I learned it had a braided core I wondered if a traditional double braid splice would work, this video answers all my questions! Do you know if the splice witch has any media pertaining to this splice?

Also, arbsession offers a mechanical passable splice for this rope, do you know anything about this splice?

No they were kind enough to share the technique with me directly. Essentially it’s just that further bury of the core. However since it not a manufacturer recommended splice, you must have one break tested before you climb on it. Don’t think you’re good, know you’re good. It’s a fabulous rope I still climb on that splice in the video!

One splice that takes a while to do but it seems 2 lgit7gffxxxdDrr56644444xxsolid for the 12 strand is the tuck splice. This video got me thinking about how it would work on some bee line. I have been testing on making the tuck splice shorter and seeing how it holds. Dynamica has a youtube video that I follow that way of the tuck splice and not the tuck bury of samson. Also on the tuck splice there usually is strands that are taped on the outside of the splice, instead of that I have been burying them in the rope and since the ropes are rigging ropes I have whipped the section where the strands are buried. Each level where the strands are thinned where I bury them I also taper the strands that are to be tucked. The tucked splice is a lot of work, I enjoy the art of splicing!

Where did you get the instructions for the splice I've just bought that rope
@treespicemedia
@treespicemedia Год назад
It’s kind of an amalgamation of splicing class 2 sailing ropes and Amsteel splicing. There’s similar splicing instructions online but I think I bury it more extensively just for peace of mind. There’s a way to splice this rope like a double braid, but I don’t personally like it. I’ve gotten it to work on break tests, but it requires the cover of the rope to cooperate in a way that it was never designed to.

So you said a fid and a 1/3 so do you mean 28x rope diameters or 21x for those of us that do go by Samson fid lengths?
@treespicemedia
@treespicemedia Год назад
I buried the core 8in. I know I mention a fid and a third, which were in Samson fid lengths, but people list the diameter of this rope differently different places so I cannot tell you accurately which fid I used, I assume I used a 7/16 fid. And I believe when I say a fid and a third I mean the longer half of a Samson fid plus a third of that. Whatever it was it adds up to roughly 8 in of back splicing the core. If you replicate this, please don’t take my word for it and break test your work. I make these videos for fun, but not to be strict how to videos. There’s kernels of knowledge, but I don’t expect to include every single required piece of information. Thanks for clarifying and I hope I was of some help. Cheers!

@@treespicemedia absolutely, I just bought 30 feet just for the purpose of break testing them just wanted to double check before I took a crack at it. I appreciate the reply
