This is a quick example video of how I'm creating my core only splices in kernmaster to have breaktested. I got the inspiration from how class 2 core fiber ropes are spliced. Yale Beeline as well as high performance sailing lines utilize a splice just like this to create a compact termination using only the load bearing component of the rope. To my knowledge this splice is typically only used with class 2 fibers, however, class one fiber hollow braid ropes like Tenex Tec are spliced in a similar fashion. Kernmaster is basically Tenex with a cover on it. My splice like this in Bifrost worked beautifully now it's time to get this technique certified and test these three samples for conformity. Stay tuned for the results!!!

Excellent video, of workflow and your commentary is good...Thank You Ryan...! Easy to follow And, You made Splice look easy too...! ( Can see, why this is used in sailing ) PS: Great idea, with a lead, on the brummel double inversion...! ("Brummel in Brummel") Looking forward to your tests and results... Greetings "Tree Splice Mediant"...!

I think the way the strand count is called in the core is a 2 carrier 12 strand and that works out to be 24 total strands. That's how samson calls their tenex-tec, 2 carrier.

Where do you send your splices for testing?

2 years late, any chance you could expound on water based poly dipping splices? Are there parameters, downsides, concerns? Thank!

It does feel pretty concerning dipping your rope in a chemical, but I did break test many samples of polyester nylon and dyneema covered in water based poly and didn’t have any strength change. The goal is just to protect an exposed looser braided textile and it keeps it together very nicely. Only downside for me is that on the kernmaster splices it makes the eye incredibly firm like a hard plastic. When I’ve put it on exotic fibers like the core on beeline it absorbs less so the eye is still pretty pliable. Can’t say there’s any industry precedent, but it’s plenty good enough for me.

I love finding ways to splice my rope yet I’m amateur. I learn for instructional videos. I just picked up some tuefelberger kmlll 11mm red rope. Any thoughts on this rope?

I really like my KMIII Max Teufelberger makes some well thought out ropes. If you’re looking to splice the regular KMIII I would use the Teufelberger Drenaline splice instructions as a rough guideline. The only other advice I can give is since it’s probably like a 24 braid with doubled strands when you do the cover taper for burying just take out all of the twin strands so you maintain the structure of a 24 braid but now it’s just 1/2 as dense. Then make sure to get it break tested until you get it just right.

@@treespicemedia awesome! I’ll start with that in mind. I’ve already successfully spliced drenaline rope. I’m keeping 200’ of that saved for high climbs. Thanks for being in touch man

@@treespicemedia I completed the splice and I’m happy with all of it but my crossover. It’s a hair thinner at the crossover

Hey Nick, curious on reasoning. I only splice my own ropes and lanyards, tachyon or 16 strand. I really like this kernmaster phantom and retrieving a sewn eye through a ring and ring or thimbleSaver is damn near impossible. A splice would be great. I’ve used beeline “core only” hitch cord for a long while and seemed sketchy at first but really like it. Would love to get your opinion. Thanks.
