is taht a cat post close to the patio door? do you own cats too?
@falconrywithkai
@falconrywithkai Год назад
Yep, there is 1 cat that lives there at the time of this videos creation. (not my cat). I have since moved into another house and do not own any cats.
@barnabyandanthonysofficial1497
@@falconrywithkai Thank you :) I ask because u always enjoyed having cats or little dogs all my life (don't have any now but my roommate has a bulldog) but I've gone to some falconry outings and am a bit smitten with them... I was just wondering what is the feasibility with having both indoors and not having them terrified for their lives or even worse one preying upon the other. Long response, sorry!
@falconrywithkai
@falconrywithkai Год назад
@barnabyandanthonysofficial1497 with cats you do need to separate as much as possible cause cats will try to eat the little kestrels. I never had an issue since Boo the cat was indoor outdoor or was put into a closed room during training time. None of my 2 dogs(minpin mix and shepherd×choc lab) had any issue with Kestrels or the Red tails I have had. Birds never went for the cats or other animals in the house unless it was just overproection of the food they had on the perch during off season. Very doable with cats and dogs are very easy to train to get along with the hawks or falcons. I brought my dogs with me when hunting all the time.

You glove your right hand. Are you left handed?
@falconrywithkai
@falconrywithkai 11 месяцев назад
The front camera swaps the direction things appear to be on. I wear a glove on my left not my right.
@professormutant3252
@professormutant3252 2 месяца назад
@@falconrywithkai image inversion doesn't work like that though lol unless I'm having a brain fart which I may well be, you're clearly wearing it on your right hand, at least in this video beautiful bird btw
@falconrywithkai
@falconrywithkai 2 месяца назад
@professormutant3252 it does work like that in front facing camera, I haven't owned a right-hand falconry glove only own left sided gloves. Cameras do silly things but I can assure you I havent owned any right handed gloves, I need my right hand free to tie falconry knots.
@falconrywithkai
@falconrywithkai 2 месяца назад
@professormutant3252 if you check out my newer vids you can see the same phenomenon or test it on your own phone and it does mirror the image and makes words on shirts look backwards as well. All of my gloves are indeed left hand gloves.😊

Thanks for the comment. The american kestrel is a bit small for the quail we have around here. Feet are too little to catch them properly. Her main quarry was sparrows, starlings and mice with me :)

Release this beautiful bird.
@falconrywithkai
@falconrywithkai Год назад
This video is from several years ago, bird was released after 4 months. In the wild 70% of hatched birds are dead in the first year. By trapping and training then releasing the wild hawks and falcons this improves their rate of survival SIGNIFICANTLY. Most go on to be the 30% that make it through the first year and go on to reproduce naturally. Hope this helps.I talk about the bird in the videos release in later videos if you peek at my channel.
@goku445
@goku445 Год назад
@@falconrywithkai Glad you did. But why would you train him if it's to release him?
@falconrywithkai
@falconrywithkai Год назад
@goku445 falconry is all about the pursuit of wild game with a bird of prey you train. Its a very important hunting sport to me and its important we do keep it alive, its one of the oldest hunting activities. I do it because, it makes me happy to be in nature and because it contributes to helping the wild birds to survive and hopefully have babies in the future. I absolutely love falconry and its always been my passion. Being connected with nature in this way is unlike anything else, its wonderful seeing a bird fully trained and he or she decides to return to your glove when they could very well leave at any time when hunting. Overall, for me falconry is a good activity that I want to see around in the future and I want to see hawks and falcons thrive. 💛 Fun fact: The reason we have a healthy Peregrine falcon population in the USA was partly due to Falconers who had wild specimens they had kept and were able to help breed those birds and place them back into the wild after DDT destroyed the wild populations.
@goku445
@goku445 Год назад
@@falconrywithkai I'm against all forms of animal exploitation. My connection to nature is respecting it and having the best lifestyle to protect the wild life that is left to us.
@falconrywithkai
@falconrywithkai Год назад
@goku445 Im glad you want to protect wildlife. Luckily falconry does a lot to promote wildlife conservation and does work very closely with state and gov. Agencies to do what is best for the wild populations as is. Do enjoy the future content coming in August of this year.😊
