You all are great story teller's. So true just go to the dock and be curious and ask. Worked for me in 1972 in Clear Water FL. Inquired was invited on a 55ft 62 yr old Dutch sailing barge that was refitted in Virgin Islands. We sailed to Galveston TX a 15 day passage. Now mind you no modern navigation just this tiller and a old helms compass and vhf. We got caught in a hurricane that was like the perfect storm. 12 ton of ballast with lee boards. We all thought we were going to die. God's grace we lived and made it to the intercoastal water way to Galveston. We made it to the front page of the Galveston News Paper. I have since windsurfed 45 + winds living on Maui...smoke on the water. You all are I am sure world class....Now vicariously living reading your all wonder sailing experiences. Thank you!

I would recommend a ketch though you will get that bias from owners. If your club racing their not your choice, everything else in the real world great.

In conclusion, sloops and ketches offer different advantages based on their sail configuration and design. Sloops excel in upwind performance with their larger mainsails, while ketches provide enhanced balance, stability, and easier sail handling with their distributed sail area and smaller mizzen sails.

Hey James, this conversation with Ryan from The Ketch, Libra was on a par with the one you did with John Kirshmer. Any one thinking of sailing their boat or crewing off shore either in the ocean or one of the great lakes should watch and listen to both of the broadcasts. Thank you both for bringing so very many incredibly important subjects to the table. These two shows are must watch for every new captain and crew member.

Loved the conversation, one I would listen to again. Sail Libre ads, never seen one 😆 getting it out there, hearing him talk about the 50 year old boat 'talking' gets more interesting than the ads. My only overboard situation was my favorite hat blew off, rounded twice touched it once, it sank rip. People don't get how hard getting back on is going to be. My boat is particularly unfriendly to boarding from the water, work to do on that.

You create drive of your forsails to create push to your main that push towards your mizzen it looks like with all your experience you don't know sail trim and maybe sail shape maybe you should know if you own a ketch you think dousing your main is going to help your wrong more sail = more power how about 14 every 7

@braithmiller

I and others single hand ketchs. Smaller sails, better balance. More lines don't require more people. All depends how it is rigged. Even seen some really large all roller furled staysail boats run from pilot house.

Speaking to the methane theory. Somebody is advocating dispersing iron filings into the ocean to trap CO2 and sink it to the bottom. I'm thinking the same bubble effect only this would be one huge bubble that would kill anybody near it and just releases all that CO2 back into the atmosphere.

I own both types ., there is no major difference between the riggings. That sail the same. Also lots of misunderstanding about the sketch rig and jawl rig. There must be no line between the masts te be a Jawl rig. Unfortunate nobody used that word anymore.
