Amy is amazing. I emailed her very recent and she replied shortly thereafter. Just hearing from her was so comforting and personal for my needs. Will continue to listen to her videos. And so thankful for some definition for me and others in our lives to pursue this keto lifestyle which is such a healing balm from God for me I know. Bless you Amy. I feel better already honestly 😊❤

I have Parkinson’s and for about six weeks I have been progressing from low carb to now ketovore. I also have been taking the supplement NAC and just recently Glycine. I was stage two Parkinson’s, but my tremors have all but disappeared. I do notice a very fine tremor when I exercise, but really this lifestyle is helping me. I quit taking my sinemet and don’t need it right now.

Amazing info that we must learn so we can address the root cause instead of taking bandaid approach. Another aspect of nerve repair is to give the fat soluble form of B vitamin called benfotiamine instead of the water soluble version of thiamine to repair damaged neurons.

When I started keto/carni a few years ago and did some research, it seemed very logical to me that a good diet, in addition to its influence on bodily functions, would of course also benefit brain function. I was diabetic for 20 years (no known menthal issues) and behold: after a few months my mood, alertness, perseverance, endurance, and my mental state had improved enormously. Never felt so strong physically and young mentally at 69! Diabetes and uncountable other issues simply dissapeared. Thank you for the clear explanation!

Amy, it's only the beginning. There are much more than 16 mechanisms of action; it's unbelievable! I found an interesting article the other day showing amongst other things that BoHB is also an anti-oxidant that scavenges Hydroxyl radicals. A fuel that is also an anti-oxidant! I'm sure also BDNF is raised under KD

If you are doing Keto and still your BG is above 100 it could be that you are overeating protein (and not eating enough fat). This has happened to me as well.

Thank-you ❤ Questions~ 71 yr man.. little underweight.. hospitalized for RSV & Pneumonia 1 month ago. Since then has memory and cognitive issues quite alot more than before that. Is it a good idea to give him keto ~ problem being he eats candy and chips, though so thin. I'd like to help him gain weight PLUS help his brain and overall health, especially his brain though. Would keto diet still be helpful if I left him eat his treats sometimes?? He'll be very difficult to change the treats, if even possible. He'll go with the keto except the candy & chips probably. He doesn't seem to realize his depth of his cognitive impairment. I think? I appreciate all and any of your thoughts, direction and advice about this. Any guidance so very appreciated!! I love your presentations; in depth and clear ❤ Thank You So Very Much for any words on this AND your beautiful indepth videos ❤

Amy I respect your opinion so much. Because of multiple abdominal surgeries I can not eat a lot of fat. What is the lowest amount of fat needed to maintain ketosis. I have a lot of dementia in my family and I'd really like to do as much as possible to stop that from happening to me. I'd also be happy to book an appt with you if you have time??? Thank you as always for you time and amazing knowledge!!
@amyberger-ketowithoutthecrazy
@amyberger-ketowithoutthecrazy 7 месяцев назад
It's hard to give any exact amount of fat as a minimum because that's not really how it works. It's not a lot of fat that drives ketosis -- it's the absence of the carbs. Technically, you don't need to eat *any* fat to be in ketosis. (Think about fasting -- you'll be in ketosis after about 24-48 hours eating *nothing,* which means no fat.) But obviously you wouldn't want to follow a no-fat diet for the long term. The amount that would be good for you to eat really depends on other factors. How are you doing now? Do you think you *need* to change anything about your diet? Are you worried that you're not eating "enough" fat? You don't need to eat a lot of fat to potentially prevent Alzheimer's. I think what's important is to eat in a way that keeps your blood sugar & insulin within a healthy range. Not everyone needs a strict ketogenic diet to do that. (Think about the billions of healthy people around the world who age gracefully, with their cognition intact, and they don't eat keto, right?) But if you'd like more personalized help, then yes, consider booking a consultation: stallslayer.com/consultation/ (And thank you for the positive feedback about my work! 😊)

There are two amino acids that are classed as Ketogenic because their carbon skeletons can not be used to generate glucose. These two amino acids are Leucine and Lysine. Leucine is fat-soluble (hydrophobic) and Lysine is water-soluble (hydrophilic). It may well be prove to be useful also in raising the level of ketones by supplementing with either or both of these two amino acids. I certainly dont recommend any of the glucogenic amino acids though. Personally, I like to take a small scoop of pure L-Leucine and mix it with MCT oil
@amyberger-ketowithoutthecrazy
@amyberger-ketowithoutthecrazy 8 месяцев назад
But supplementing with those ketogenic amino acids does not necessarily raise your ketone level. Have you found that it does? Just because they *can* be converted into ketones (because they can't be converted into glucose) doesn't mean they will be, automatically, if you take a certain amount of them. The same with the glucogenic amino acids. Just because they *can* be converted into glucose doesn't mean they automatically will be. The metabolic conditions have to be appropriate for such to occur. So I'm curious if you have experience a measurable increase in your blood ketone level solely from supplementing with leucine or lysine.
@yehonatan2020
@yehonatan2020 8 месяцев назад
Yes you are right. I've been in Ketosis for over 3 years, after first listening to Dr Westman back then. Now I privately study Cell Biology and have the latest Ketogenic Textbook published in 2023 titled "Ketogenic'. Over the last 4 weeks I have done 4 weekly 48 hour fasts, with the exception of black coffee / black tea / water etc. But, I also take L-Leucine multiple times over the duration of the fast and was able to get the ketones up to 6.2 one week, and then the next week they went up to 6.4 - the highest I've ever had them. Interestingly the bg was down to 3.6 giving me a GKI of about 0.53

Amy I love your videos but do you have any examples of people who have been cured of any of these disease by being in Ketosis for a long period. If we have the data it is easier to convince people to follow it. My wife has been diagnosed with Aphasia and I am trying to get her on this diet but she wants to see hard data that it actually works.
@amyberger-ketowithoutthecrazy
@amyberger-ketowithoutthecrazy 8 месяцев назад
"Cured?" No. Of course not. Improved? Yes -- that's why I shared some of the published research in this talk. The real question for your wife is, with regard to what she's doing NOW: how's that working? Is what she's doing *now* having any positive impact? If yes, then great, keep doing that. But if not, what does she have to lose by *trying* keto for a few months? It's either going to help A LOT, help a little, or not help at all. I really think she has every reason to give it a try -- as explained in the video -- and the only reason(s) not to would be that she simply doesn't want to go a few months without carbs. I'm sorry to sound a bit harsh, but that's really the answer. Why not just give it a try and see what happens? If she hates the diet and/or doesn't notice any improvement after a while, she can simply go back to her usual way of eating.

No, girl, that’s my fasting insulin! My glucose was 106. I was diagnosed with T2D at the end of 2021, and I began searching for a solution. Very low carb was what I decided to do, and my A1C came down from 8.1 to 5.3 in 6 months. I took part in Dr.Westman’s KMS 8, and I stopped taking Metformin. I lost 30 pounds in the beginning, but the weight loss stopped and I gained 10 pounds back, still eating very low carb. (I’m still at least 80 pounds overweight.) I decided to ask for a fasting insulin check, and it came back at 192!! I almost fainted and asked the doc what can we do about that? She said well, I can put you back on Metformin, and the next 3-month bloodwork fasting insulin came back at 169 (normal range 3-20). Still crazy-high!!
