Music, Master Violins, and Fantasy: videos back on track.
Brian and I are not Hollywood film makers by any stretch of the imagination, yet we consider each other true "diamonds in the rough" and hard workers with enough imagination, to properly share the magical world of Music and Master violins.

Hi Kevin. I'm just retired from the construction industry and following your RU-vid videos to learn how to restore violins. I understand the dangers working on a farm with heavy machinery. Do exercise care as any kind of machinery can be dangerous due to our oversight or plain carelessness. I wish you speedy and complete recovery. Work safe and stay healthy!

A woman on RU-vid has reviewed Two Trees and said it's so well written it's beautiful. Could be a hidden gem amongst the litter on the shelves

I am glad you are back. I found your channel a few years ago and, it was as if you knew I needed to see them. Oh, my violin playing is what you would expect from the amount of practice I have been doing but, I still hear my baroque style bow bidding me come play. Now sir, if you ever find yourself on Vancouver Island there is a resonator guitar that wants to meet you. You can use my violin, it isn't fancy just an old Chez student job but, it is rich in my ear. Life is just this thing isn't it. Being too tired or busy with or from work is the battle cry of the unfulfilled I suppose. I appreciate your videos and your approach. You make me feel like Cyrano de Bergerac when I hold the bow.

I'm sure if we lived closer, we would be friends...When i saw the book with a violin, motorcycle and a sword...now the tractor..

Oh, you have no idea what is "lurking" here at the violin shop and valley, and hopefully we can still be long distance friends since I am somewhat of a hermit with my violins.

We already have another almost "in the can" and working on the next. I don't know if it's possible while still keeping up on the violin making, yet the plan is to make one to two videos a week. We may have to do a little "reality tv" style. ?

I can say for a fact that after every viewing of your video catalogue. I have a richer comprehension of the violin- as a novice player and its caretaker. They are plenty helpful. Glad to hear the hand is back from its Rocky traning storyline! :)

Hey Kevin, great to see you back! I always found your videos both entertaining and VERY informative. I hope your hand is doing better man, I have a bit of experience with life altering medical issues (degenerative disease in my spine, several surgeries later it still effects every moment of my day). Take care my friend look forward to it!

@kevinleeluthier
@kevinleeluthier Год назад
Neck is doing really well, all things considered. I'm doing everything I can to put off the surgeries that would take away more flexibility because I am able to practice/play again without much pain as long as I'm careful and use a little unorthodox posture. = I'm now starting to feel a little like Paganini. (His posture, not necessarily his talent) :)

Do you sell your violins? My name is Philip Coleman I'm 61 and only a novice. Violin has given me something to live for. A cancer survivor, I started violin 7 years ago. After 3 teachers, the first 4 months, I got discouraged. Beginning of February the school hired a new instructor and decided to try again. Nothing better being made to feel like an idiot and paying for it
@kevinleeluthier
@kevinleeluthier Год назад
Yes, I sell them, though I only make master instruments which start around $30,000.00. Though the finer the violin, the quicker and better the learning if you can afford it.

What's in that thing, an old 6V71?
@kevinleeluthier
@kevinleeluthier Год назад
You are correct! (Straight 671 though), and earplugs are definitely mandatory for a violin maker/player. :)
@chriskelly6574
@chriskelly6574 Год назад
@@kevinleeluthier I'm a trucker when I am not chasing my dreams so, ear plugs if your a guitar player who is breaking into youtube. Only I hade to deal with an 8V71, the good old thirsty 318. Soooo, would you, could you make a violin out of shipping crates and/or pallets?
@kevinleeluthier
@kevinleeluthier Год назад
@@chriskelly6574 It's possible to make "a violin" out of just about anything, and my first violin wood wasn't much better than this, but for a "fine violin" it takes the finest trees, cut and prepared specifically for violin making. My grandfather even made the body of a violin out of a cigar box, and it does have a certain "charm." :)
@chriskelly6574
@chriskelly6574 Год назад
@@kevinleeluthier My question was wrong. I have watched your videos and I know you could make a violin out of anything. The proper question is can I afford it. I am driving to Mexico so I can photograph a volcano this coming summer, perhaps if I am not too baroque you can find a spartan Vivaldi special in your shop...I'm trying to be clevor. I see it isn't working...I was driving truck through the mountains all night and I ought to be in bed...zzzzz
