This video proves that some individuals with lots of money tend buy high end items solely based on brand recognition while missing out on the true value-to-money of lesser known brands. As Kevin showed, which is what I really liked, is his genuine appreciation for the microbrands that Teddy brought. Nothing was fake about his excitement once he found out their cost and level of quality/visual appeal. His fixation on most of them, especially the Brew, was truly amazing. I've always liked Kevin and after watching this, I like him even more. Great video Teddy!

Bruh... Rolex been doing for multiple decades with their Steelinox 904L... while everybody uses 316L or hardened 316L... their steel isn’t only scratch resistant bruh... they’re highly polished so that it can match the shine of their white golds in Rolesor... they even have upgraded their steel multiple times.. it’s an ancient stories with Rolex .. AP don’t even do that on their Royal Oaks... Breitling too.. seeing as it is a beater adventurer watch.. Rolex after 6-7 year use unless you ding it so hard u prolly only get hairline scratches... Breitling u use it the same way u use a Rolex witching few weeks I’d get splinter and all that...

I think you are on to a good thing but marketing (mainly social media) will be key. I don't see the market as traditional watch collectors but I bet the system spawns a lot of new watch collectors if it takes off. It's the 20 and 30 somethings that love these and I'd be guessing people whose previous watch purchases never went past a Swatch or a Timex until now.

I don’t see a nautilus at all with that Brew. Happy to see the Nodus on here and the Traska. I have the first gen Traska Frediver and it’s an extremely underrated watch and I preordered their commuter. How come there was no Dan Henry? One of my favorite micro brands with a solid range of chronos and a diver. We need a part 2 !
@raulbancroft2552
@raulbancroft2552 2 года назад
Agreed about the nautilus. The only thing I can think of is that the nautilus is so iconic you could recognize it just by its outline. And just strictly the outline of the two watches are kind of similar - but not at all the way Kevin is describing it. Check out Wise watches they have a fantastic diver with a really cool dial (especially the blue and red patterned dial)

@ericfan9149 2 года назад
It’s not that it looks like an homage or knockoff, but it definitely takes its design cues from the 1970s, and the Nautilus has a very 1970s design language. It also has an integrated bracelet that tapers dramatically from the case, so I can see a passing resemblance in its silhouette (although obviously they are watches that occupy completely different worlds).
@watchweekender
@watchweekender 2 года назад
Same. I don’t see a similarity beyond the design being a 70s era integrated steel watch. But that maybe why he felt it looks like a nautilus. Everyone has a different way of understanding when they see making opinions on design so subjective. I’m surprised he didn’t choose the Zelos with the aventurine dial. He chose steel sports watches of sorts.

I would love to see another episode of this series. Everybody wins with these videos. I’m not huge into micro brands, particularly because once you start pushing near or over $1k there’s more risk in terms of maintaining value. But these kinds of videos introduce people to great pieces, and the popularity of the content + the weight of a recommendation from you and Kevin helps to ensure that there will be continued demand and a fair resale market. So, I’m all for it! 🤝👍🏼 Thanks, Kevin and Teddy!

The resale value of microbands depends on the watch geekspace population for such brands. And that's constantly growing. My interest in watches started about 3 weeks ago. I've bought five and have become another member of the geekspace. I'd far rather get an interesting micro than a well done homage watch of the same price. Although I admit I already did the homage bit 2 weeks ago...and I do quite like it. Forgive me father!

Sorry to be pedantic, just a lot of misinformation going on elsewhere. Its not "case hardening", its just called surface hardening. Its completely analogous in surface function, but there are some critical differences in both the process and the result. The bjggest difference is the depth of hardening (case hardening can go much much deeper) and corrosion resistance (surface hardening dramatically increase it). On top of that you just cant case harden 316 as well. Cheers

The French Hegid brings back shades of the legendary "POP" Swatch of the late 80's & 90's. The surrounding ring could be used to house many different cheap, cheerful and colorful quartz modules and there was an endless array of colorful, elastic straps to complement the housing ring and movements. Hegid have brought it up to a much more expensive genre of watch. I wish them every success for daring to be bold and different.

Let's be proud of all the great guys who are creating these watches and running the respective microbrands - thanks Teddy for promoting these entrepreneurs. I think it is good that for entry price level oriented people to show what they can go for and start a collection - Bravo Teddy and Kevin - Greetings from Germany!

Hey Teddy, I have a Zelos Starfighter Aenturine, and let me just say that it's the most gorgeous mechanical chrono you can get for miles. Really glad to see it featured here. Their meteorite dials are also amazing!

What he means it’s not worth paying the price to get it fixed. Look at phones those days people paying 1000 and replace them every 3 years
@benjaminvis
@benjaminvis 2 года назад
Yes, I suppose it reveals somewhat of a pain point to introduce products to market that may not be worth fixing, especially for a product category that in my opinion should all be about lasting (hopefully) a lifetime. The hardened steel approach certainly is worth exploiting more in that respect and given e.g. brews design, this would really benefit from it. Such a more durable 'tool' approach on the rather lustrous retromatic dials might win me over, although the Traska itself is actually surprisingly attractive to me.

Yes please. More episodes of any kind. I like episodes like this because it drives home the point that watch collecting doesn’t have to be overly expensive. May I suggest an episode of only divers. Break them down by price category and let Kevin choose a winner in each category.
