Kevin Parker of Tame Impala reacts to The Wiggles' cover of his track 'Elephant' taking out top spot in triple j's Hottest 100, beating Kid Laroi, Spacey Jane and Olivia Rodrigo.
I was at the show where they dressed as The Wiggles! It was at Outside Lands in San Francisco on Halloween night 2021. They announced over the speakers right before their set that Tame Impala was involved in an accident and that a replacement band would be playing instead, then they announced The Wiggles and they all came out in costume. Unforgettable
People complaining about Triple J as if they *forced* the Australian public to vote for the wiggles. People need a dose of critical thinking, the brain rot has really got to them.
To those worried about the Wiggles topping the Hottest 100 just remember that in 1993 Dennis Leary topped it with I’m An Asshole. It just shows we love our music and we’ve got a sense of humour.
Heard about this from my Australian friends and I had to look into it. I’ve been listening to The Wiggles nonstop for the past week cause I’m babysitting my nephew and it’s only natural to listen to the Tame Impala cover.
@@SirFrancisBaconn Former Cockroaches band members were also supporting cast in the show. And "Do the Monkey" is attributed to both bands (with alterations to be more kid friendly) My point was, for two former members of a prominent Pub Rock group turned Children's Music performers, going on to win a Hot 100 position with a cover of a Psych-rock song, isn't that far fetched knowing the history of the group.
That song was a vibe. One of my favourite Tame Impala songs, but man when I heard the Wiggles cover Elephant, I fucking cracked it. I'm glad he was chill about it
@@mitchsmith4906 it's worse than the original, they can't even keep time, everything about it was average. Compare that song to past winners. That's the best song of the year? If it wasn't then it shouldn't have won, if it was then the Australian Music scene is a joke that that's the best we could come up with.
To be honest I had never heard of Tame Impala before the wiggles did the cover version and it went to number one on triple j So I decided to go check them out .so glad I did ,I dont understand why so many people are bagging out the wiggles for doing this cover version. To me part of music is to take a song and make it your own and that's what they did.ok so they put fruit salad in it .I actually would love to see them do another version with out fruit salad in it .there voices are good . In this period of time our world has been going from covid to floods in Australia .covid all over the world and then there is Russia starting a war .So let's just sit back take a deep breath have a bit of a Laugh ,,like the Joker said WHY SO SERIOUS be great full for our lifes and Music as it sooths our minds and souls
One day Kevin when you have your own kids and they watch the wiggles . You will be cool to them because you covered a wiggles song lol( even if it was your song originally) 🎵😄😉
Tame Impala is just Kevin Parker when in the studio, but has multiple members when playing live. This is because Kevin Parker doesn't have 10 arms and can't play an entire band's worth of instruments at once
I think the thing is that most of the people who used to listen to hottest 100 now have kids whose lives revolve them and dont have lives of their own. The rest of us have been going on with our lives and experiencing new things. Goes to show the type of shallow boring people who listen to triple j
This is an example of why music is dead, the whole entertainment industry is dead. Pushing narratives has killed entertainment. Triple J needs to sell merch to survive even though it is publicly funded.
This wiped the little credibility the countdown had left. The countdown is not a reflection of the best songs of the year anymore... Sad but True - Metallica
Grow up. It's a great song that people absolutely loved by an iconic group of Australian artists. You can't pretend this is somehow a worse song than other winners like "Pretty Fly for a White Guy"
The respect I have lost for triple J now guys this blows my mind !!! How the … !! So so many more Aussie independent artists out there n u go n pick this how disappointing n outright stupid!! No way the Australian public picked this I’m sure u guys got paid a heap of money just to put this a the top stop
People love the wiggles. Millions of Australians grew up listening to them, so of course when they had an opportunity to vote for their childhood heroes doing a great song cover they took it.
What weird universe do you live in where Triple J is taking bribes from The Wiggles? Who do you think could possibly benefit from that? The public have spoken, this was the number one song for 2021, get over yourself.
10 years ago tame impala edged in at number 7 cutting just infront of Frank Ocean Lost. In the top spots we now got Justin bieber, some spanish disney chick and the wiggles playing a cover and taking the previous number 7 to number 1. It's pretty clear to see the downward trend in Australian music scenes bolstered by consumers that are falling into the trap of rubbish music culture. Music scenes in aus are all but a dry creek compared to the river that once flowed up until mid 2000s. For Shame Australian youth, and for shame Triple J and your woke agenda for leading what was one of the most vibrant music cultures on earth to the commercialized piece of shit it now presents itself as. Even Gang of youths bailed from this joint and now live in the UK. I hope you're happy with yourselves and the cover band shitty culture you have nurtured. Think its time to follow Le'aupepe's lead
The Arts, and so the music scene, has been butched by lack of federal and state support through the Sydney Sneeze. Good shit is being made, it just exists on local radio. Get around 4zzz and RRR - the culture is alive, you're just less plugged in than you think.
Not sure where youve been but this isnt anything recent. 90s boybands, manufactured pop, reality tv music shows. Pretty much any radio station since ive listened to radio. Occasionally good stuff gets through. I still dont mind triple J when radio is the most convenient option. But for a station whos listeners seem to voice how bad regular radios playlist is, the second they get to vote on what gets played it starts sounding pretty similar to those other stations.
@@ShapezPuller64 I listen to 4zzz, It's a far cry from what you are saying it is. We had pedigree in this country that was once very exciting to be apart of. Ive been teaching music in Aus for the last 17 years and the culture I was a part of as a kid is very much not existent, Youre bang on around sydney and I think cost of living is playing a huge roll as bands simply cannot afford to live cheap the way they used to be able to before getting a break, Most music that makes it through carries the triple J narrative and anyone not fitting into that gets wiped, This is hardly a good sign of vibrant band culture. There is a few exceptions to the rule like kingstingray and king giz crowds getting through but they are hardly representative of the broader culture
