I LOVE the lyrics of that line of "Elephant": "He pulled the mirrors off his cadillac, 'cause he doesn't like it lookin' like he looks back." One of my favorite lyrics of all time for its wordplay.
“Sun’s Coming Up” has recently been my favorite song off the record, and I played it for my dad the other day in the car. When the second part of the song hit with the guitar I mentioned it sounded like Hendrix’s “Star Spangled Banner”. my dad goes “well he played it at sunrise, maybe that’s where ‘suns coming up’ comes from” Blew my fucking mind. Not sure if that were KP’s intentions but man, that would be a crazy connection.
The album, came in time/era where ppl have never felt more alone/disconnected. It TRULY is, a modern classic/gem. Genius really. I think that´s why this album means so much to a lot of ppl. Because you can relate to it so well. But there is also hopefulness, oddly within the album.
This is one of the best interviews I’ve ever heard of kevin. He’s so revealing and honest and it feels really special to be let in to a lot of his life around the album.
I resonate with this album more than any other album EVER. if my life, childhood, feelings, emotions, even my soul had a sound it would be this album. I never really felt understood by anyone and hell i didn't even understand myself until this album jus quite literally explained what I've felt and still do feel as a person, i felt alone until I discovered Lonerism, which is quiet poetic if you ask me. Have a good one, all you Loners of the world
Favourite album period. Why Won't They Talk To Me? has touched me unlike any song I've ever heard, or could even imagine. Word for word relatability, it means more to me than I ever thought a song could. And it's not even actually my favourite song off the album. It's so inspiring as a teenager to look up to someone, seeing them as a musical god, but still knowing they've gone through the same things you're going through.
I missed this guy! And im so thirsty for new album. Can't fucking wait! Seems it might be released in the fall? I also love how humble he is staying. Class act. On top of that being tremendously talented. This is the one musician that keeps me on my toes. So curious what he's done with the new album.
@@brokendreams4562 Loving it, I say let´s go, he´s bold and he wants to try different things, he earns my respect even more because of that reason. Great artists don´t repeat themselves, I don´t recall who said that right now, but I think there is truth in that :) So, I can´t wait for the album! Different/change is good. Doesn't have to be bad thing. It prob will be, if it´s not what you enjoy. I understand some ppl not liking it. But I also seen some very lazy comments about it. That will happen obviously, ppl like different things. And we heard 2 songs, from an entire album. Anything can be on that record, that´s the point. I would hold on with judgement until you heard the entire thing.
Makes so much sense why and how I feel the way I do listening to his music. I too was very alone growing up and still am. Like zero support/love from family. Kevin’s music reflected exactly as he described, being so alone that the music is his company. Also the underlying tone of hopefulness.
He’s so friendly and attentive towards the interviewer, I hate when artists come on an interview and act ‘too important’ for the interviewer and give rubbish, shallow answers to otherwise interesting questions.
I bought lonerism the day it came out and music to walk home by was instantly my favourite and remains to be one of my most listened to tame song. Just so perfect in every way
I was a freshman in college when it came out, I remember preordering the album, and on release day it came in the mail and I just cranked it in my dorm room in amazement. I suffered from social anxiety intensely and mostly kept to myself, and Lonerism definitely helped me get though that time. Innerspeaker did too in high school but this album took that concept to another level.
Let me tell you. That when I became Tame fan back in 2010. The majority of ppl I knew that heard it. Ruled out Kevin completely. Said this would be over in few years" Well that's almost decade now ;) Lonerism was his break through. But Currents opened up for bigger crowds. You're welcome! :)
Actually TI been quite big seens Currents IMO. It took the 3rd spot on the UK list or something? So not that recent. But I see what you mean. It might also be because ppl are hyped for the upcoming album. It's like one of the most exciting albums to be released this year. So you hear the buzz.
I would love that, but I think that will be hard. Not because he isn´t good enough, but because Lonerism was like one of those rare gems that come along, once in awhile. Im very excited curious to see what he has done with the new album. But at the same time, trying to come to terms with that I might just not like it. Which happens, sometimes with artists/bands you like :)
Came from the future... it isn't better than Lonerism, it's probably his weakest work too, but it's still an amazing album. It's concept is so reflexive and its style is very nostalgic.
Rafael Gomes same here, started listening back to it after I heard this a month or so ago and I haven’t been able to put it down since. My new favorite Tame Impala album and in my top 10 all time
Great interview. The other interviews on youtube are awful, and you can tell that Kevin hated them. So this was a nice break from the past. Hope he does more.
really, I felt the same. after all this while it just felt like he'd become distant but when he says the album has this hopefulness all of the connection he's built with his fans came to life
Well, people are constantly changing and shedding their past selves so in a way "it was him" but not so much anymore. I can say the same about myself. I'm not the same person that I was when this album came out and changed my life.
