We do a walk through of this amazing work in progress sustainable home with 1/3 Recycled Materials, 1/3 Natural Materials from the area, and 1/3 Construction Materials from a construction supplier. The home will be completed off grid when completed comparable to some of the most luxurious and unique homes for a fraction of the price and eliminate residual costs for energy.

I just wanted to add something I was waiting for Kevin to say when describing the degradation or off gassing of the tires. He explained it well but I think he might have conveyed the concept better if this was included. Oxygen exposure drives degrading of the rubber but if you thoroughly entomb the rubber in plaster it's not exposed to oxygen. It's essentially mummifying the rubber so to speak. I had mixed feeling about using tires until I read that description.

I’m so glad that somebody said something about this thank you so much. I love the idea of using recycled materials, but I was hesitant to use tires because of that very reason.

I want to emphasize one thing - Some people out in the world, America and elsewhere, believe that Sweden is some kind of ecological and enviromentalist paradise. It is not. More than once have people like Kevin, and myself and others, with projects like this encountered huge resistance from the authorites. The notion of the enviromentalist paradise is more to apply on Germany or Norway or the Baltic countries today. Still there are enthusiasts struggeling in Sweden.

I love this guy, his one once done his home will last for generation's. He is well read, well worked, and met the right right people like Michael Reynolds. The question on what the tire releases the methane gases is true. But when covered with tons of dirt and concrete, makes them safe and they become your thermal mass. Soak Up the sun during the day holding keeping the house cool them at night releasing the heat it stored keeping your home a constant 65 - 70 degrees. For where Michael Reynolds base stations is in New Mexico that heat is too much but need no fNs, A/C units anD because you build them facing South you get all the sun you need for your green house making it a sort of tropical jungle. I want To say not knowing where everyone lives, here in the U.S.A. Our government is trying to change laws making living off-grid illegal. People get on line and see what your City, County, State, and Federal laws are on the books and monitor your area to be aware when they are trying change the laws, so you can protest of learn all there is about the laws where you are. The Government does not l like not making money or taxes off from Home owners who live off grid. If you don't watch them they will knock on your door and tell you laws have changed and you now have goodnight taxes get hooked up to the Sewer, Water, and Electricity, and that's about $10,000. That is extreme but these homes Earth Ships, Cobb, or Comes are helping our Planet and it needs our help. Doing water catchment, doing water treatment of your waste, soaking up Solar, not using gas powered items are helping our World and not just for us but for our Children. This current deadly Virus is a wake up call. In the earth ships your growing your food, you are processing your waste and your caught stored water catchment processes your water 4 times, and you need no outside help. When you build one of these homes I am talking about these homes Re water proof, lest proof and fire proof. When done building you have no mortgage, no bills at all, no need for a mail box. Think of what you could be doing away from your 40-70 hours work week. If anyone knows of owns an Earth Ship I am asking that Michael Reynolds be nominated for a single Peace Prize. His life's work has been over 50 years he has gone all over the World building, teaching informing all walks of people. Not to get rich I get acclaim, but to save our planet. Look him up watch his videos make a change like this guy did. You will never be sorry. Bug you got a great house and I hope you put out a Video when it's all done can't wait to see you wonderful family home.Thanks

Thanks for making this video. I've been friends with Kevin on FB for quite a few years. Really great guy. It's good to see some video footage. I'm on a similar path but less solidarity in my area so his influence has kept me going quite a bit. I haven't started on my preferred earthbag home design but after 2020 I'm more driven. I felt the need to become well versed in how to repeatedly grow the same amount of food and save seeds for all my favorite crops first along with fine tuning animal husbandry and compost independence. I prepared the field and now it's time to build the house. Good luck to you on your projects on the reservation Not a Medicine Man!

the concept of a 3 sided earth burmed house is great. but first of all rubber is an insulator NOT mass- and sand is also not a good conductor, sand and clay would be better- but concrete, stone and water containers are better. looks like the roof of the greenhouse is overglazed and probably overheats in the summer and definitly will leak- minimize roof glass. an operable skylight will allow good ventilation and some sunlight in. i recommend raising the south wall for the winter sun (using 6 ft. tall double pain vertical units- this will retain the guarantee of no condensation in the thermopain) and minimize summer sun. and any glass unit should have moveable window insulations system like curtains or shutters. i also recommend separating the greenhouse from the house with air/insect tight windows/doors and using a mass wall as a separator. the concept of a living roof is also crazy- leaking, extra weight/rafter size you don't need. just recycle the cans- they have no practical use in building. and never use exposed wood on the south side- it will crack/degrade quickly in the sunlight. at least use a metal covering of the wood on the outside. and never use an angled south face- vertical is better for the northern latitudes since the sun is lower. and more. bendsolarhomes.com

@babblefromthebubble4978
@babblefromthebubble4978 Год назад
This ship was my design, quite customised in a few ways from Michael Reynolds designs.....and I have a 3D Google sketch-up on paper of this one..... but since I've been studying these hard for nigh on 25 years, I'm able to design them in return for significant donations via our non-profit co-op to help complete our work here. I have done hundreds of varying floorplans for myself over the years that would be safe and effective for the cold temperate climates - but they can be adapted for any longitude/latitude/bioregion. I may not be an architect, but I have one of the best engineer educations from the British army and my Sketchup printout was enough to please the authorities :-) . Now because of the slo-mo adventure of THIS 350m2 beast of a building, all built by hand (17 years) I have a whole lot of valuable experience too, including what NOT to do, in order to save some time, money, heartache and relationships along the way :-)
