I saw the Dark Knight Rises 6 times in the theater...and I cried every time I saw that part. But, it was specifically the part where Blake says "this is it" as there is the explosion, and the kid says "no, that's Batman!" Just the theme of hope vs. apathy gets me by itself. Also, the part getting out of the prison. Fuck! That movie is awesome. Batman is way better than Jesus.
Enjoyed the cartoon discussion-- I always remember thinking as a little kid that the theatrical shorts from Disney, WB, Fleischer, and Avery were more advanced and high quality-- I had no idea they were OLDER than the other cartoons on television. They just seemed more expensive and immersive to me.
He figured out when he was still in the orphanage as a kid. When he saw on the news that Bruce Wayne came back "from the dead" all cheery and happy he knew it didn't add up. Also as soon as Bruce comes back to Gotham, it just so happens that Batman shows up too. It's not that hard to put together.
lol, I didnt identify with that line AT ALL. Being upset with Batmans's death makes more sense then being upset over Jesus's. I mean, Jesus is a really boring, and cliche spouting character. So yeah, Batman's a better character.
danimalplanimal That may be his point, but it's not mine. My point is this, what makes a character like Jesus more worthy of sadness over his death than Batman?
He never said YOUR BATMAN. He said the city needs bruce wayne, it needs Batman. He got the answer he needed when Bruce didn't disagree with his statement.
Blake didn't know Batman's identity because of his face.... He knew the pain that Bruce felt and knew that anyone in a situation like Bruce's who would go out and party all the time obviously is putting on a fake persona. "Practice smiling in the mirror"
Opie always has to bring up "why do movies never kill off the main character? They always cop out". We get it,you're edgy. It's escapism, there's plenty of unhappy endings in reality you're too old to be so concerned with appearing dark and cynical maaaan!(as I use their own language. I know,I'm just as bad)
I am not one of those losers that keeps on going for the sake of winning. I admit defeat when I am wrong. I wouldn't have this conversation with you otherwise. Blake didn't say "I KNOW YOUR BATMAN." He implied it and got the answer he needed when Bruce didn't disagree. Blake is almost a carbon copy of Bruce. It really isn't that hard to believe.
DKR should be treated as an "alternate take" on Batman. It isn't part of the main comic book continuity, and so the movies should be treated the same. Especially the Nolan Batman movies, they're more based in realism. He was only Batman for around 2 years total and his body has taken a fucking huge beating, he can't realistically do this forever. And also in the movie, the ending also goes along with the message from Batman Begins... "If you can become more than just a legend" and all that stuff
The Brocabulary book author guy also comes to mind. And yeah, they're personal friends with Kev, and the entire stable of O&A regulars brutally ridicule eachother constantly anyway, even if it's good-natured.
Do judges feel the pain and tragedy of losing ones parents to crime and corruption? Blake feels the same thing as Bruce. That is why he becomes a freakin superhero at the end of the movie. He is no different than Bruce.
Isn't Miller's Dark Knight Returns and Batman Beyond "alternate takes" on Batman as well? When you think about Nolan's version is just one of many alternate reboots.
I hope you´re just trolling. How many orphans trying to make it through the pain did Blake see in his life? Yet, the minute he laid eyes on Wayne, he knew the dude was Batman? Whatever tho.
I worded that shitty. I don't think the Blake scene is a plot hole and I am defending it. I can't change your mind nor can you change mine. Agree to Disagree : )
I was pretty dissapointed with a couple of things in this movie. 1st, they toned Batman down a LOT. In this movie, Batman is a silly dummy who gets betrayed by Catwoman and still asks for her help later. Emasculating. Blake? As cheesy as they come, discovering Batman´s identity by a look. Thats plain stupid. How about Gordon realizing Batman was Wayne from a simple tip about something that happened 30 fucking yrs ago? And Bane becomes a friendzoned chump in the last 10 minutes of the movie. Nuff
Yes it could have been done better but I don't think it is as stupid as everyone puts it out to be. It is a 5 minute segment in a 2 hour 40 minute movie and everyone acts like it ruined the movie experience for them.
Watch the scene again /watch?v=bfqYdon7hSw The idea that he is good at policework and started with a hunch and found the evidence would have been a much better explanation and the idea would have still worked. But to say "I just knew when I looked into your eyes" is a little cheesy and could have been handled much better. And I loved the film. In a bad film that wouldn't have stood out at all.
Thats what I mean ''by a look''. A look in the eye. That ''hidden pain in the eyes''. All that BS. Besides, does your explanation for a man discovering Batman´s identity sound less idiotic than what I´d said before? No. Plot hole, period.
It's amazing how Kevin Smith can be a director with decades of experience under his belt and still be absolutely, profoundly wrong about TDKR. From his love of the movie to his talk about Bane's voice preventing "spoonfeeding" and his silly misapprehension of why Blake throws away his gun towards the end, it's clear that Kevin Smith is, by and large with a few exceptions, a lazy fat kid who never grew up and never grew a brain. Thank God for Scott Mosier.
