From the Sam Houston Coliseum, January 11, 1980. This is right after Gino (with long bleached hair, as I recall) turned on his partner, JYD, in Mid South. I grew up watching Mid South & it happened right before Christmas of '79, when I was11. Gino & Ernie Ladd turned on JYD & Col Buck Robley saved him, making him THE biggest draw I ever saw here in New Orleans. Kevin is also wearing boots here.
Please comment if you like it & want to see more!

Nope. Kevin wore boots for the first 5-6 years of his career. It wasn't until late 82 when he started wrestling barefoot. There's footage of Kevin wrestling in Georgia and St. Louis in boots

Yeah, he forgot his boots one night, and it wasn't in any way, shape or form to copy Jimmy Snuka who was super over in 82 😉

There was a match where Gino was bragging about hurting David and Kevin attacked Gino. Anybody know who Gino's opponent was?

I knew Gino was a big Flair/ Dusty mark, but that bleach job is just horrible.

This was a storyline where Gino turned on his mentor Jose Lothario and became Gorgeous Gino. Jose went on to beat Gino in a hair vs. hair match and shaved his blonde locks.

Did Fritz actually own all of Texas wrestling including Houston? I see Bronco Lubich as referee? Boesch had connections bringing in top line stars. Who had more power Friz or Boesch in Houston ?

Fritz held the NWA booking office. So Paul would call Fritz for talent. He had some mainstays like Gino, but most talent came from Dallas.

Actually there were several territories in Texas: Dallas (Fritz), San Antonio (Joe Blanchard), El Paso (Gory Guerrero), Amarillo (Funks) and Houston (Paul Boesch). Houston was unique where it didn't have its own champions. The other territories would send their champs for shows, plus the NWA and AWA world titles were defended at shows. Gino worked a lot in San Antonio (where he teamed with Tully Blanchard as the original Dynamic Duo), but because Paul Boesch was a big booster of Gino led to rumors that he was actually Gino's father. Paul took Gino's death very hard.

Gino would have made a great Ric Flair style heel touring champion in the NWA, but the Ric Flair bleach blonde hair. . . just no.
