Interesting to see the pop so low on the Apollo. I guess it's being compared with hybrid and elongated paddles, but I felt like it has pretty good pop.
Just got the Mark OneX and yeah the sweet spot is small and played softer than I expected. Tried it with a 3g CRBN style strips at the 4 and 8 and it did not work out well over Stock. But, then moved them down about 1/4"-1/2" from there and it felt much better overall (barely hugs the corners). Will continue to play test. Dinks, hand speed and two-ies were fun.
Great info on power and pop which are two important aspects of the game. However I don’t think either one of these relate to dinking which is still a significant part of the game. I’m guessing the two of you can come up with a way to measure dinkability of a paddle. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts. Thanks for your efforts.
The things that affect dinking the most to me are the pop level, launch angle, and forgiveness of the paddle. The more forgiving and lower the pop the easier it is to dink. Then 16mm paddles tend to have higher launch angles than 14mm paddles and whether that's a good or bad thing depends on how you swing. Not sure how to quantify that into one measurement but we'll have to put some thought into it.
35:49 Interesting the discussion you guys had about paddles and swing weight. I as a tennis player think the opposite about wanting lighter SW paddles. I actually prefer heavier for plow and stability and pickleball paddles are just so much lighter than tennis rackets (note that I play with heavy 12.2 oz rackets and an 8.3 oz 11SIX24 14mm H-X C Kevlar paddle) that I don’t think it’s affecting hand speed too much. Just prefer having a more solid paddle in my hand for dinks and volleys and then practice and technique takes care of precision and having faster reactions.
I ordered a J2K in blue. Requested a lighter sw one, if possible. Just got it snd swing weight was 112.27 and paddle weight was 8.17. Kudos to Honolulu pickleball!!!
I’m more interested in higher pop(within reason) than higher power. The reason is that I can then swing really hard and get more topspin with the J2 K AND the top spin adds more speed to the ball ( on the bounce) than the 2 miles an hour a power paddle would add to the ball
It’s good USAPA is retro testing old paddles that originally passed the old test. Simply put these paddles would have been delisted anyhow, as soon as COR becomes live. Better to stop the stream of paddles that will be illegal soon instead of letting the stream become a raging river of power paddles.
And as for Joolas original statement, they went on record on saying that they sent in the wrong paddles for testing. “Materially the same” is not “exactly the same”, a ribeye steak is materially the same as a ribeye burger patty, but they’re not the same.
These are considered Gen2 paddles not Gen 3. so jury will be out. Paddletek Bantam.. based on Gen 1 tech. Just as powerful. IMO don't see them getting delisted

Your analogy doesn’t make any sense 😂 A burger and a steak are not materially the same when the entire structure is different. If you made one paddle with ground polypropylene core and the other with solid they would in no way play similar to each other.
On Balls going outta round, has anyone tried more and smaller holes to give a ball more shape integrity? Just a thought. Putting a "bolt" screwed into the end cap is waaaaay cheaper. Did that to one of my paddles. Gonna take more than a "hot mic" slam to pull down BJ. James's "happy feet" my have loosened his sticker😊
@pickleballeffect you guys didn’t talk much about the Standout KC1…is it because it’s not that special? I’m curious how it stacks up to other edgeless paddles (or any other paddles…there’s not a ton out there about it)
I have the J2K Pro and played with the J2K. I find J2K Pro has more power and pop with less control. To each his own. Thx for all your hard work! Keep it going.
@@scottfrancis13 I didn't find j2k / j2k pro any more or less uncontrollable. When my shots were out, pretty much knew why. Maybe pro paddle a "little" more out.. I guess. Feel of sweet spot was a bit different is size for sure. Adding lead to mine so we shall see if I can equalize.
If anyone has a piece of non paddle gear checked out like a training aid etc please let me know and I’ll do my best to get ahold of it and put it to the test.
I havne't run the numbers on the Fat Boy yet but if I had to guess then it would be a little more powerful and poppy than the Apollo. The Apollo has a very low swingweight while the Fat Boy has a little more which I personally think is nice, it carries through the ball better.
