Third podcast and it’s already my favorite. I’m all aboard the Nerd Train. 🚂. I love that you don’t spend half the pod doing pro pickleball news. Keep it coming.

You guys are definitely becoming my favorite podcast to listen to. I love the perspective and I'm super stoked that you support small brands because that's what I love about pickleball. I'm so thankful that I returned the two paddles that I had purchased last year that rhyme with uhh and urk..😊😊

The bearded guy gave the best explanation of the surface composition of paddles that I have ever heard. Clear and understandable. Also explained why initial heavy grit seems to vanish on the Ruby and other paddles. My favorite surface is carbon and fiberglass {J2H and black diamond) and I was happy to hear that that combination is not being phased out. Also great explanation of paddle eraser cleaner and use on any paddle. Thanks!

I'm enjoying the podcast. Keep it up! I'm curious to hear what Justin thinks the future of paddle grit will be like. Spin degradation is such a huge problem for anyone who can't just get a free new paddle every tournament.

Loved the talk about TW and sour spot. I'm currently playing a Pro Line Energy and so the sweet spot is more elongated than circular, and I can definitely tell that if I hit the sour spot, it feels like crap. On the contrary, I recently tried out the J2K and my god the sweet spot is big and its such a forgiving paddle. I'm definitely considering transitioning over. Keep the nerdy discussions coming!

Another question: is there any way for us nerds to determine the swingweight at home without specific expensive apparatus?

I was meaning to ask if you guys can talk about the Launch Angle of paddles. I recently heard of it when comparing 14mm vs 16mm, and I'm curious if you guys can explain a bit more about it and how it works, and could you also relate it to how a paddle performs when it has a lower or higher launch angle. Thanks!

Does the thickness of the Epoxy layer prior to peel play change from paddle company to company? Example: If your peel ply sheet is the weave of Slik and another is Burlap, you'll get vastly different grip feels. Good job Justin. Great Myth bust on ball dust. Justin, what are the swing/twist weights on the MARK KINETIC?

Awesome episode! I have a question for you guys, does twist weight feel the same between differently shaped paddles? Such as a 6.5 on an elongated feel the same as a 6.5 on a standard shape or 6.5 on hybrid? Or is this more tied into forgiveness?

It’s like people completely forget there is an epoxy resin layer regardless if your paddle is made of Carbon, Kevlar or Toilet paper.. at the end of the day if the peel ply is there and eraser isn’t going to harm it 🤷🏻‍♂️

@123BV8
@123BV8 2 месяца назад
More on standard/wide body paddles, need a paddle to replace the Anna Bright Gen 3, have a worn out CRBN 2X 14mm and a ALW 12.7. Nanotac seems to be the best facing material out there as long as it passes USAP. Proton has been trying to use it, I say trying only because they seem to be challenged making them, out of stock for over 6 months. Diadem experimented with a type of tacky surface but just doesn’t seem to have the spin everyone wants. Manufactures need to have the surface wear out to sell more paddles period. Peel ply is just garbage, spin drops off after a week, in 3-4 weeks no longer allows full swings not enough spin to keep it in, 2 months the surface is smooth and worst is spray on grit. Proton warranties their surface for life! The industry needs to step up and develop quality paddles that last! But if we keep buying what they are producing they never will, or once someone finds a real solution for a quality surface then all will follow. Or better yet come up with a better ball, a better librarian ball! Quiet, spin forever, doesn’t hurt as much if bagged, won’t damage paddle faces like plastic balls do, won’t crack in cold weather, aren’t effected as much in hot weather, and last longer so less plastic in the land fills.

Question! What is your opinion on how much of a difference is actually made in regards to pickleball elbow/other arm health related ailments between a 16mm and 14mm paddle? I decided to stick with 16mms for the potential benefit, but is it negligible?
@123BV8
@123BV8 2 месяца назад
Grip size and how tightly you have to hold it, so the higher the swing weight in theory the tighter you have to hold the paddle for the same swing speed?
@declan2253
@declan2253 2 месяца назад
@123BV8 no I meant in the sense that the thicker paddle (16) absorbs more vibration/impact from the ball. That's what I've been told anyway. That the greater the impact absorption the greater the protection from ailments such as tennis elbow (hence the reason for gel grips like hesacore to absorb more impact). This isn't the only factor of course. Grip and weight I know play a role. Lighter is better generally as I understand it. But in this case thickness for vibration/impact absorption
@123BV8
@123BV8 2 месяца назад
@@declan2253 Yes good thought anything that absorbs vibration is a good thing, guessing that is ProKennex theory with the vibration absorbing beads.
