Kew Gardens is one of the UK’s best botanical gardens. Home to hundreds of thousands of plants and fungi, Kew is at the forefront of botanical study and conservation.
In this video my wife and I visit Kew, taking shelter from unseasonal rainstorms inside of the tropical and temperate greenhouses. Kew’s greenhouses are home to over 10,000 species of tropical and exotic plants, many of which are endangered in the wild.
First we look around the Temperate house, home to exotic and tropical style plants that require a minimum temperature of 10ºC to thrive. In the temperate house we discover many exotic plants that have survived in the Grow Paradise tropical style garden. Many of the plant species growing in Kew’s temperate house are new to me, and I’m inspired to have a go at growing some of them in the Grow Paradise tropical style garden.
Finally we visit the tropical plant collection in the Princess of Wales conservatory. In search of tropical garden ideas and inspiration we discover the worlds largest water lily, Victoria boliviana. In the same tropical glasshouse we discover bromeliad chandeliers and rainforest style living arches.
