The calcium score usually increases each year. It is a good one-time test to identify cardiovascular risk. This test alerted me to take immediate action: a bypass and valve replacement. My score was and still is over 7,000! I was doing 3 miles a day without symptoms when I got this score. And it's very inexpensive.
Had the CAC done when I turned 50 and so glad I did!! After years of high Cholesterol tests in my 20’s and not eating much meat I scored “0”!!! Yeah, I’m confused but never took the statins just ate healthy. ❤️
Dr.Berg, I see that you get this a lot but I wanted to genuinely tell you that you have changed my life in every positive way. Thanks to you and learning about healthy keto I have lost 47 pounds in a little less than six months after being overweight my entire 41 years of my life. Thank you from the bottom of my heart you are a selfless and caring man thank you for the good work you do
Six months ago, I persuaded my brother to do keto diet. He lost 90lb as of yesterday ,which is 30% of his weight before keto. His blood sugar and blood pressure are all back to normal. Thank you!
@@Drberg hi Dr berg, I've been an avid follower every since I found you.... absolutely great content...I HV a small request..can you make a video on becoming taller... especially in adulthood...we see many basketball players achieve a late growth spurt....and how swimming affects the height too. Thank you❤️
Dr Berg, please would you consider making a series of videos on what you would do if long term prescription medication became suddenly unavailable. For example: thyroxine, asthma inhalers, antihypertensives. It really would ease a lot of worry about the future right now. There is now a documented case already in UK where someone has been denied essential surgery that they had waited a year for because she refused to have a certain test done which is very well documented as being useless.
Isabelle Bien-aime Thanks. It would be good to have a plan when taking the plunge to come off of some of these medications after years. I don’t have all these problems, but I can foresee a day very soon where we are denied essential medicines. Our Doctors seem to have all keeled over and are happy to go along with unethical protocols before their professional training.
@@sharon7522 I can’t say that statins contributed to my low CAC score. I have been an athlete for most of my 56 years. Dad was not active. I can tell you that there are a lot of side effects to statins - despite what the pharmaceutical interests say.
Brilliant Dr. Berg!! I need to get my annual health check-up. I was wondering what test I should take, I will be requesting for these test. Thank you.😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁
Doc, invaluable information. However, since many people will be using your video for their research, I'd like to add that a PSA test should also be included in those annual visits. Thanx.
WRT CAC, if you get them done every couple years, what you're looking for is that it does not go up. It probably won't go down. Source: Ivor Cummins, Dr Jeffry Gerber, "Eat Rich, Live Long."
Informative video, thank you. However millions of us, including myself, are out of work. They’ll be no money for checkups. So, personally, I rely on your “do it yourself” videos
I think we are reaching a point where even the employed (or government) cannot afford Healthcare. The only way forward is to implement all of Dr. Berg's advise and stay healthy.
2:55 lol the doctor that day looked me cold in the eyes and told me it was gonna be used for bioplasma and walked away🤦🏿♂️😭... Also, they got an ultra goofball/overly-friendly doctor to take my blood so I've been suspicious about that injection ever since. Also, When I walked in the hospital the doctors tried to get me on a big stack of pills(glad I turnt that down was prolly to make me more easy to experiment on) one of the doctors also tried to get me to agree to getting a spinal injection!!😨(glad I turnt that down as well) basically they all knew why I was in there, they even probed my hips on the cure(colloidal elements), but yeah everyone in that joint was paid off and taylor which= me getting violated
In video description:... A few tests you may want to consider getting at your yearly checkup: 1. Omega 3/6 ratio (you can do this at home with a kit) 2. CBC (complete blood count) 3. Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP) 4. CAC (coronary artery calcium scoring) 5. Vitamin D 25 Test
I have semi-annual tests. From Blood, blood sugar, to heart, liver and kidney. Thankfully, healthcare and HMOs in my country is not that expensive compared to the US.
the only reason its expensive in the US is because half the population has to pay for the other 80% who is freeloading. yes that math is correct, the extra people are the millions of 3rd world illegal migrants who rely on citizens to subsidize their healthcare
Great start, I would also look at underlying drivers of disease, so inflammatory markers, cytokines, and markers of oxidative stress. Don’t you love those advanced lipid tests? So insightful. Hey man an alternative to CAC to avoid radiation would be CIMT which is an ultrasound of your carotids looking for Plaques. Another good test to look at is a functional vascular test like an Endothelix, which is basically an in office automated brachial artery tourniquet test.
@@user-vg8ez9cu6u great question. For inflammation hs-CRP, ESR, ferritin, there are now cytokines panels on Quest, omega 6:3 ratio, there are a couple others. For oxidative stress we have oxLDL, myeloperoxidase, lipid peroxidases, 8-OH-DG. I do love the advanced lipid tests, incredibly insightful!
I'm trying to keep away from the Doctors, they're full of ill people. 🤗 Thank you muchly for sharing this important information with us all. Take care & stay safe everybody. ❤🙂🐶
Hey, lady!! This information comes at the most opportune time for me. I have until my lab appointment in December to convince the VA to do these tests. In 2004 I had a heart attack at age 50 and didn't know what it was, NO pain at all. I finally went to a clinic and they rushed me to the hospital. I took those stupid medications for almost a year before I chucked them all. Haven't had an issue since. I still think it's a good idea to get the tests, though. It's been 16 years. You take care of yourself, too! God bless you and yours!!
@@vickieturner8688 Hey there Vickie, I'm so sorry you went through that, & good job you went to the clinic. Lots of people have been on Statins for decades, it reaks havoc with your system, glad you didn't take them for to long. I'm glad your doing good now.🤗 You & yours stay safe and healthy too Vickie. ❤🙂🐶
A basic set of investigations should include haemogram, fasting blood sugar, liver function test, kidney function test, lipid profile, uric acid, chest x-ray and ECG, stool routine and occult blood. More extensive testing can include a tread mill test (TMT), Hepatitis B test, TSH for thyroid, ultrasound abdomen.👍
If your doctor doesn't know what HOMA-IR is, you can ask for a fasting blood glucose and insulin test. Then take the test results and plug them into the HOMA-IR formula. You can find the formula and the desired limits on the web.
This is very good video ....for having the idea very well to the eximaton..during 6 months ..we need this kind of information .it will help us to know when we feel something what kind of examin we should guide.
Hi DR. Burg and God bless you! Is the CAC related to calcium deposits? I had some in my shoulder and could not close it properly, got a shot at the ER and eliminated the issue. Thank you for your time and efforts.
should I inform my doctor that am on keto+omad? Most of the doctors in my country are old and conservative AF, they took their degrees in the dark ages of the soviet union and haven't changed their mindsets at all since...
I get the A1C test once per year. I was pre-diabetic before getting on keto and now thanks to keto I am not pre-diabetic. My LDL is up but all of my numbers are sparkling.
oddly enough insurance does cover the omega fatty acids test and it’s quite informative i may add, but no one knows how to interpret the results. i’m very familiar with this one-drop test dr. berg mentions but it’s a little more complicated than that. my omega fatty acids test came back showing i was way off balance with the omega 3’s and the doctors test showed that my omega 3’s were fine. both EPA & DHA are fine, but the one-drop test was very bad. prior to this test i had beds intermittently taking good quality fish oil for a few years, my diet was good with just some grains mixed in, no alcohol, but plenty of stress. i’m 100% Italian so goes with the territory. i was eating a lot of spinach which is extremely high in oxalates, and then stopped which may have caused a serious event called “oxalate dumping” and a lot of burning in my stomach was and is the result of that.....i think! the differences between these two tests confused me so i stopped taking the fish oil at a very critical time because i suddenly experienced severe symptoms with my stomach and i didn’t know if fish oil would make this better or add to the incredible pain i was feeling. the comprehensive omega fatty acids test from the doctors office did show other areas of my blood at high dangerously high levels, but my point is that the EPA & DHA were fine. maybe dr. berg can explain the differences in these two tests even though they both test for the same thing, and more importantly how to interpret the results which none of my doctors are capable of doing.
FDA has issued a Feb 19, 2019, article that thermography has been approved as an adjunctive screening tool for breast cancer but it should not be used as a substitute for mammogram. It has high rates of false negatives and false positives.
Hi doktor ❤Please reply. The doctor spoke in one of the sections, which is a section on the treatment of polycystic ovaries and said that there is a vitamin called Acetal, one of the types of vitamin B, and that it has two copies, Mayo and Di Caro, and he mentioned that he treats the cyst, but he did not give us a picture of the vitamin or where we get it and how it is used.
What about for those of us who are on the verge of getting kicked out of their doctor's practice because we've had little to no need for them since we stopped listening to their advice???
i've not been back to my 25-year dr in over 2 years. last few years she has started pushing drugs too much. bothers her that i take no drugs at all. i take supplements and that really bothers her. she told me once that i am the healthiest fat lady in her practice! i am 67.
Yup. Large fluffy LDL is not an issue. It's the small dense LDL that could potentially be an issue, if at all. Source: Ben Bikman, Ph D, "Why We Get Sick."
My doctor is the same! He's a Zombie coasting toward retirement. Doesn't want to learn anything from the patients. He's extremely narrow-minded, a typical insurance company doctor
I have spent over a month communicating with your staff trying to get your evaluation of an article in the Sept issue of AARP on Statins. I have watched numerous video's of yours and they have been very helpful. I recently had a Cholesterol test and though my total was 102 the good was very high so the results were actually good. My Cardiologist wants me on a Statin. I decided not to go one it based on you videos. After reading this article I'm kind of in limbo not sure if I made the right chose. I have been talking to Shunda Givens and she has elevated my concern to her Supervisor. I have also tried several times to call into your live show only to get busy signal.. I hope you or someone in your staff reads this and provide me with a response.
David, the CAC test is super important to get more info before going on a statin. It shows how much plaque (or if any) has built up in arteries. Medical field is starting to really use this as a much better guide. Thankfully. Good luck.
Dude - He has 4 million subscribers. That doesn't even take into account the folks who watch his videos who aren't subscribers. Can you imagine how many questions he gets every day? I'm sure you have a good idea already what his advice would be. Give it a try and get retested later to see if things are improving. If you aren't willing to take that risk then take your doctor's advice instead. Simple.
My Dr put me on a statin, made me feel like crap. Aches, increased heart rate, told the Dr let me try to get it down on my own, no statins. Quit snacking on crackers and started taking 1/2 dose of Weiders Red Yeast Rice with sterols at dinner, got it at Costco. Got my cholesterol down to 197 from 264.
Does fasting cause gut stiffen ? Or something like that ... i hope you will answer my question … and thank you for all information that you give us I’m very interest with you
My one and only blood panel test I have ever done was 10 years ago, my VLDL was so low the machine couldn't read it. If healthy Keto/IF/off-grid high nutrient intake can't keep me healthy, then I don't want to live. Unless I break a bone, you won't see me at a "doctors" office in town.
I can't find any dr. talking about vldl especially, also how each of these sugars effect the body,, erythritol, monkfruit, Xylitol, allulose, etc. Everywhere on the internet in keto recipes they are all telling me it's fine.

Ketosis is not the only way to be very healthy ☺️, the general rule is quality comes first. I use ketosis because I used to be obese and my metabolism is very sensitive to sugars. You can go vegetarian, paleo, carnivore, keto, low carb and still be very healthy.
QueensNative depends on what you call “well balanced”, right? If it’s heavy on the carbs, then that’s not healthy _or_ balanced. And what’s the quality of your food? Ask yourself, is your present diet/lifestyle working for you? Are you losing weight each year or gaining? Do you have sufficient energy to get through the day, without the aid of medications? You can sit on the fence about Keto for the rest of your life, only to die at an early age from (ultimately) metabolic syndrome, e.g. cancer, heart attack, stroke, diabetes. What are you afraid of? Having to curtail your intake of carbs? It’s a common fear - nobody wants to deny themselves their “comfort “ foods, especially in these current times. It boils down to this: is the fear of becoming a slave to the hospital/ pharmaceutical industry greater than your fear of changing your eating habits? The answer could be a moment of awareness in itself. [edit] and like the other poster mentions, you can be any type of omnivore with great success, it’s just all about the sugars in your diet.
People that question keto just haven't done enough research, IMO. Not being judgy here, just stating a fact. Without going into detail, keto changed my life. Not longer obese, no longer have high blood pressure, have heart healthy cholesterol, healed pre-cancerous lesion on lip, completely reversed uterine cyst that was growing. You need to have faith and do more research.
@@arobertpetersen I've never been an enemy of carbs.. I just try to stay away from the bad carbs, the processed junk food, cakes, pastries, white bread, sugary drinks and whatnot.. I just eat good complex carbs, whole grains, oatmeal and brown rice.. The human body was designed to eat carbohydrates.. I tried the Atkins diet back in the day and never felt good, was always tired and depleted..
QueensNative ::: Atkins diet didn’t allow for enough fats, KETO does. Sounds like you’re on the right track anyway, just some people need to be more vigilant about carbs in all forms, not just processed.
Hi Dr. Berg, Could you share with us your yearly checkup results if you get them done :) It would be good reference for everybody. There are comments on your video from vegan community that eating 5 eggs a day is bad for cholesterol level.
The calcium test might have saved my uncle who died 2 weeks ago from a massive heart attack. The coroner said he had major blockages in in arteries. He was only 56, not overweight and didnt smoke but probably didnt eat healthy. He ate out alot. He was such a nice guy and it's still hard to believe. I am 53 and maybe I'll get that test when I go for blood work soon.
I’m sorry to hear about your uncle. FYI the coronary calcium test is done in a CT machine. Most bloodwork labs do not have these machines. The good news is that they are quick and painless. Hospital systems will often discount these tests (insurance does not cover) because they are so worthwhile in determining risk. This is my experience anyway.
➡️QUESTION: I’ve been doing IF for about 4 months and I do prolonged fasting 24-36hrs once a week. I feel marvelous overall. BUT I started having gallbladder issues two weeks ago and they largely resolved by drinking more water and taking bile salts. I’m clearly burning fat and I’ve lost about 25 lbs. My question is: if I do a cholesterol test what is it likely to show? Since I’m burning fat and some of the cholesterol is sticking to my gallbladder? If it’s high or elevated should I worry or is this par for the course? I’m having a check up next week, will probably get my results in two. ALSO: Should I show up for the blood test in my IF or Prolonged fasting state? I’ve seen your video on how cholesterol is elevated in gallbladder with IF but drops after 15hrs of fasting. Or does the fact that it’s in the gallbladder and not bloodstream makes it completely irrelevant? Thank you for all your invaluable work!!! ❤️
Hi Dr Berg I started the Keto diet 3 weeks ago & have seen a difference after doing my morning gym exercise but have found myself being quite dizzy after lying down or sitting for too long during the day for an hr or so. After just eating 2twice a day I've only just started back eating 3x's a day now but in smaller doses which seems to work ok so far. I do have a medical condition taking blood thinners, Atorvastatin & Clopidogrel for 5 yrs which maybe the result of my dizziness. Your feed back will be most appreciated.

My doctor told me he won’t order the calcium scoring test since I told him there was no way I was going to ever take a statin unless it was an urgent need. All they are is pill pushers. I think taking all those blood pressure and diabetes drugs have done more harm than good, I want off of all medications if possible.

So I’m getting really depressed lately due to a apparent hip labrum tear on the front/side area. It really sucks! And it’s been 14 months now and I also have had tennis elbow since February! I have been ketovore 14 months. All my radios are good but CAC scan is a little over 800. Did not know about this one at the start. Does this mean it has possibly gone down? What more can I do other than take a dr recommended statin and reviser my will? Do you even respond to questions? I listen to you every day.
Well, a heart attack is not fun either. My husband has been keto for over 2 years. He has dropped his triglycerides by 50 points, perfect fitness, but cholesterol is fairly high due to heredity though. Thank God he just got a CAC test - his LAD artery is full of plaque. That artery is known as The Widowmaker. Doing research and seeing cardiologist ASAP....
@@jujugoketo3711 I was in the same boat with an angiogram 5 years a go. My cardiologist tried to push for a stent, I refused, I knew all illnesses are reversible, I just have to keep my carbs and blood sugars down. Vitamin K2 will remove the calcium from the plaque, healthy keto and IF will get rid of the cholesterol buildup. Lecithin will help dissolve the cholesterol.
Can you go over what’s too high for Vit D. I was taking 10,000 iu a day and mine went too high and my dr freaked out. It was 146. I did stop taking for a couple months then started back to 5000. I didn’t have any symptoms of toxicity but he insisted I get off it.
It's important to check the level before starting vit D, I suspect you were already at the optimum when you started. I personally take 5000iu for 8months then double during extreme winter months. Always with K2.
