Got em all! You are absolutely correct about the Tiffany cards. They are the way to go. Takes it to a whole other level. Also try to go with higher number PSA graded cards to build a solid collection. Even the PSA 8’s look nice and are reasonably priced for the quality
I knew a man in Bham Al that worked for Topps distribution of cards to stores from 1951 -1975. He had milions of cards. Boxes an packs that were unsold, so he had them packed in boxes in garage. They moved in 1976 to a lake home, so he destroyed all those cards in a barrell fire. Called him in 1987 to see about the cards. When he told me I swear I cried. 100 million dollars of cards. Man's name was Zeke Isaacs.
I like this video a lot. I come back to this list from time to time to make sure that I have all of the cards mentioned. I do... I made sure to get them all in PSA 10 grades. Much appreciated.
Just bought my first 89 UD Griffey on Ebay last week, snagged a PSA 9 for 50 bucks!! I was 12 in 89 and remember very vividly how bad me and all my friends wanted that card.
I pulled that Griffey jr. out of a foil pack back in 1990 then the folllowing day i pulled Frank Thomas leaf rookie, i still have both cards to this day..
I had that Jr. Rookie with me at a friend's house late 90's..in a hard case in front shirt pocket..stayed overnight & in the morning the father(who knew what is was, he collected) informed me his wife had tossed it in the washer, and handed the soaked card to me displaying true sorrow for ruining my life. Even though the most disturbing, unspeakable, primal rage made my fingers & toes tingle...he & his wife are still alive today. Man, that thing was the holy grail.
LOL I had my Griffey Jr and Frank Thomas cards stolen from me back in the 90's Probably a roommate or friend........ to this day it really annoys me because those were my favorites inside a whole box of other cards. Maybe karma from when I was young and stupid... lots of stolen cards
If our collections would have held their value, we would all be retired and rich. I still have 25 - 30 of some of these. Traded a Big Mac Oly card for a ticket to see #62. I had 4 more at home. Looking back, it was the greatest investment ever. I got to see one of the greatest games in baseball history. Great countdown guys. But now I have to dig out the trunk. I haven't dug through mine in almost 20 years.
I was all about Canseco back then and $125 may as well have been 10 thousand when I was that age so it was untouchable. I remember seeing 86 Donruss wax packs selling for over $15 back in 90-91, haha. When I got older I bought all Canseco rookies in PSA 10 including the Tiffany, and bought an unopened 86 Donruss rack pack with Canseco on top also. That card is the Mona Lisa of baseball cards, in my opinion. Same with the UD Griffey.
That Canseco was the HOLY GRAIL when I was a kid. Still a great card. I've been considering picking up some donruss hobby boxes from 86/87 recently just for fun
awesome cards and awesome video. I really enjoyed this. amazing how many great players came out of the 80s. I think my favorite card is the Topps traded ripken. baseball card perfection!
Loved this video even more than the rookies of the 90's video. I remember a local drug store that sold cards put a limit on how many packs of 89 upper deck you could buy.
Well done, I remember the Alomar RC's were a huge hit as well back then. To be a kid again, growing up in Boston area I had access to all those Clemens dirt cheap!! Whoooops
Watching in 2019 and realizing that my "amazing" collection from the early to mid 80's is almost a joke. I sold those Mattingly's and Strawberry's for top dollar in the late 80's for gas money to get to college! Great video!
Tim Raines did end up making the Hall of Fame, good call guys ! I have about 6 of those '87 Topps Palmeiro's. Have the complete '83 Topps set, those Boggs, Gwynn and Sandberg cards are nice. I thought my '86 Topps Traded Bonds was the Tiffany one, but it's not. :( Great video guys, loved it.
It’s funny that the one card that I would never trade is off an off center Ricky Henderson 85’ Topps card I managed to get autographed when I was kid at the Oakland coliseum. We used to walk to the hole in the fence and then walk back around the back side of the coliseum to where the players parked, I was able to pass the card through the fence and get it signed when he was by his car. That was 89’ if I can remember correctly.
I’m one of them dudes who is late thirty’s and collected during the garbage years. The peak of my collecting was when upper deck came out. I still have two set one with the errors and one without factory sealed. I bought 3 and opened one and broke it up. Mainly for the Dale Murphy rev neg. I watched your video on getting back into collecting and I am just getting started. I loved this vid because it reminded me of some of the cards I always dreamed of and could never afford as a kid.
Thanks a bunch for tuning in. That is great that your getting back into the hobby. Have a blast. We have all kinds of videos for collector like yourself so hopefully this channel will be helpful. Happy collecting!
I have 18 of this cards. 17 of them in mint, the Strawberry in Nr-Mint. I could have sold them when they were all worth Hundreds more but now I've had the joy of passing them, my NFL collection, and NBA & continue to add to our collection which now Takes up The entire Family room along with my Collection of First Print, Rare, Classic and autographed books and Mafia memorabilia. Our trifecta collection of 3 things that have nothing in common. Passing the collection down to my sons and seeing the joy they have just opening up wax packs from the 80's happy if they get something simple and cheap even like a Vince Coleman or Gary Sheffield or a Jim Abbott so they can hear me tell them about how great he could pitch with 1 hand. Or a Dave Dravecky so I can share the story about his tragic loss of an Arm & his Miracle return. Or a story of Gibsons Homerun for the Dodgers in the W.S. as he limped home. The greatest thing is knowing these cards & stories will be passed down to my grandkids one day. They will keep not Only MLB, NFL & NBA legends alive in my family but my legend and those of each generation as long as they are not sold this will continue for countless generations of my family and even after I'm gone the stories of the collection will keep me and each generation that grows & passes down the collection alive. So who says the magic of Baseball is gone. It's not. I sincerely suggest if you have a sons or daughters, if not a nephews, neice or God Child you first introduce your collection to them. Take them to sporting events, even minor or amatuer league. Then buy them a box of cards and a price guide. Open the packs with them, share the excitement of finding a card worth $5 or even $1. Then show them how to organize, protect the cards and let them build their own collection. Then suggest join collections and building it together until they are ready to take care of it themselves. I know it's hard to do so maybe hold on to one Notebook of some of your favorites. But more than likely they are going to keep you involved and ask your advice anyways. Take them to card shows as well. I'm telling you it's a great way to keep the family together even when they are in their teens. And of course involve Mom too. Not only is this a great hobby that isn't part of a drug culture it will also influence your child to play sports which leads to healthier habits and choices, social development, scholarships and confidence and is great for the family dynamic. Thanks Guys, Enoch Gagne
Wow you have a wonderful collection and it's fantastic your able to share it with so many loved ones. Thanks a bunch for sharing a little about yourself with us.
That Rickey Henderson card brings back so many memories I was 15 years old and I worked at a baseball card shop that card was The Rave I must have had about four or five of them kid you not and not including all the sets that I had plus a Pete Rose rookie and I also had a Jackie Robinson and a Brett mini to name a few well two years later when I hit 17 cars and concerts and clothes ( high top Nikes ) gained my interest and I sold all my cards in my sets for a hundred bucks....yes i know you don't have to tell me.
I prefer the 1988 Fleer Update John Smoltz to the 1989 Upper Deck. I believe that is his best rookie card. Other than that I love your list. Could you do a similar video for the 90's and 2000's also?
Great list!!! I still have my Donruss Canseco Rookie that I pulled from a pack. And to me the Donruss Canseco and Tiffany Bo Jackson are the most beautiful baseball cards that I own!! Griffey and Henderson are rt there though! Awesome video!
Wow great video lots of nice cards I was going to guess 12.00 for the Tiffany Bo Jackson then I went to E Bay and looked WoW what a surprise you need to get yours graded
Ky Baseball Card Collector I just looked at the completed sold on that Jackson and yes it's tempting to grade it. The raw ones are even selling for over book except for one. Bo is hot right now, amazing really conserving his career was D railed before he was able to make any significant contribution to the sport of baseball.
I agree the 1984 Donruss Mattingly had a huge impact on the hobby. Please feel free to make a video response of your list of top rookie cards of the 1980's.
i have topps sets from 87,88,89 all the local stores say they are worthless. i still have them. plus many more from the 80's won't give them up. i figure maybe in like 30-40 years maybe they will go back up in value. so im saving for my son. do have several brett rookie's all in medium condition.
@@BaseballCardJunkiesTV They really are. For reasons unknown, for the last 2 years I've been interested in the 1940"s through 1960's cards & have slowly began obtaining them. But all era's of baseball cards are fun IMO
Great video I collected in 89,90,and 91. A collection that ain't worth shit or nuts ,but has priceless memorable moral value. Still a huge fan of the bash bro's. And know Bo is not worth one nut😁.Here's my sub.
I bought that Griffey card for my friends birthday for $9. We camped outside one night with our baseball card collection and it started raining. Let’s just say that the Griffey card didn’t fair too well. 😭
I was 8 or 9 when upper deck came out. They got plenty of allowance $ from me hunting that KGJ. But never got it. Same with Bonds & Jackson in 86, Although at 6 years old I didn't know about series, traded, or tiffany. Just opened what my Father gave me. Which obviously was the wrong series that year. I got about 25 pete rose & sparky anderson mgr cards though. Lol
oh shit..gregg Jeffries! haha had that fleer and a ton of his donruss. I remember buying 1 upper deck box (for $25-$29) and my friend bought 2 upper decks. I pulled 3 ken Griffey's while my bro struck out with 0 in his 2 boxes! lmaooooo
Damn we thought the money was going to start flowing when we came across the first error fleer or donruss or both. Then the errors just kept on coming and we then realized we weren't dealing with topps!
MikelineTV my only bias would've been to put the McGwire at #3 and Bonds at #4... not because I PC McGwire, but because I don't think any of Bonds' rookie cards ever hit the popularity that McGwire's hit in 1998 through 2000 or so. That 1985 Topps went from a $20 to a $300 card practically overnight, and stayed there for a while too, and that was not even the Tiffany version, that was worth even more. Bonds just never hit that level
I was leaning toward Rickey at #1 (being a huge A's fan myself), but the Griffey definitely had a much bigger impact on the hobby, so that was the reasoning for it being #1. thanks for watching!
I have bo Jackson Barry bonds Kevin Mitchell Bobby Bonilla Andres galarraga will Clark and Jose Canseco oh ya and John Kruk too all in very good condition
Randy Johnson has double the wins and strikeouts of Koufax...who was better? Koufax was great but he quit while he was young. Johnson played almost 20 years...what do yall think?
NevMo Koufax pitched the last few seasons of his career in. absolute pain do to arthritis in his shoulder/elbow (can't remember which). he just ate up innings and was pitching every 2-3 days. besides, Koufax made it in to the hall based on 6 years of his career: 1961-1966. Johnson needed the whole 20
Titanic Taters Yeah, Koufax was worried about his elbow. Getting cortisone shots daily was not something he felt like continuing. Not discrediting Koufax and his accomplishments. I think Johnson would've been a hall of famer if he retired in 04. Who would you rather have, Koufax or Johnson?
@@BaseballCardJunkiesTV haha I realized that must be because my PSA 8 of this card was 50 or 60 bucks. thanks again for the inspiration to start my channel, it's officially your fault!
Man you have the 1982 Topps Traded Ripken at #5? that has to be the most valuable on the list as far as being a "regular" issue and not a Tiffany... It's held it's value throughout the years too..... Cool video tho, at one time many of these cards booked for well over $100 but now most of these cards (besides Tiffany versions) can be purchased for less than $50 bucks with the majority under $25 and many for under $10... Yea that 1985 Topps McGwire was going for like $250.00-$300.00 when Sosa & McGwire were slugging it out for the record.... Tiffany had to be going for at least $3,000... You can probably get an 85 Topps McGwire rookie now for $5 bucks maybe..... Crazy how all these cards once went for crazy money at one time or another.... But that 1982 Topps Traded Ripken RC has stayed pretty consistent over the years.... I'll bet it's stayed over $100 for the last 30 years..
I remember the McGwire Olympic card selling for $250 all day long, and yes I have purchased that same card for under $5. That single card has had more volatility than any other baseball card in this great hobby's history.
@BaseballCardJunkiesTV Talk about crazy card values - want to see something funny? go look up Jose Uribes's 1990 fleer card on ebay. I shit you not it's selling for between $5 and $20 bucks. It's turned into a bizarre hysteria all because some dude listed one for 100K as a joke and ever since then people have been buying them up for as much as $1,000 all because some idiot put it out there that it's a "rare error card". But yea, back on topic with the 85 McGwire - When McGwire and Sammy were slugging it out that card went through the roof, and I was laughing how these guys paying $250 bucks a pop would regret it big time down the road, because there was just no way that card would sustain it's value at the time.....Kinda like Jeff Reardon's 1981 Topps & Topps Traded RC when he broke the saves record - that card shot up to like 15-20 bucks, and now it's basically a $1 dollar card.. And at those times everyone knew those cards were mass produced but they were paying outrageous prices anyway...The Hobby has a "yuppie" element out there were people will buy cards - not because they're collectors but because they think they're an investment so they buy cards all at the wrong time - they buy them at peek value and think they will be worth 10x that in 10 years - NOPE doesn't work that way.... But hey, I have an idea for you guys.. You should do a video on "the top 10 most expensive cards from the 80's that are now worth pocket change" because there are a TON... You know, cards that were once prized and worth a ton but today cards you would keep in the commons pile if you broke a box.. That would be a cool video... You know Gregg Jefferies Rc, Lenny Dykstra's Rc, Doc Gooden's Rc, Fernando Valenzuela's Rc, Darryl Strawbarry's Rc, John Olerud's Rc - there are a ton to choose from... I think it would be a very fun video for sure.. Anyway, thanks for taking the time to reply to my comment..
You guys got it wrong. The Cal Ripken Topps traded is by far number one. The running Rickey rookie is second. Third is Puckett update the rest you got about right.
