Thank you for another great vid. Unfortunately, I couldn't get audio on this particular one. The simulated ivory head pieces. Would the thickness be equal to original 1960 ivory? Looking to replace a few on a Hardman and Peck Harrington baby grand. unfortunately since this vid was made, the ivory laws have changed in NY and is now illegal to purchase new or used.
What kind of adhesive do you use to glue the plastic "tops" on? I have an old rebuilt piano, but a few of the plastic tops (like you showed on the left) have come completely off and others are starting to come off, so I need to glue them back on.
You can still get ivory? I've heard that even old ivory is ILLEGAL to buy and sell. This video is from 2010. In 2016 they issued strict bans. Only ivory that was imported prior to Jan 1990 can African elephant ivory be sold in the US.
It is illegal to get new ivory. But you can get pre-ban. Some technicians rescue ivory from pianos before they're thrown away, and keep stockpiles. There are also other avenues to get legal pre-band ivory
