Good luck with the lure. I would have liked to have found something cheaper than buying the lure tube. Remember, the bend in the tube is what gives it action.

Hi thanks so much for this informative video! I am heading to Cancun in a few months and would like to make a few of these cuda lures to take with. What size swivels and treble hook are you using to make these with? Is there a color you prefer? I noticed sea striker makes the surgical tubing in pink, yellow and green.
I use yellow and green, but I don't think it really makes much of a difference. I don't remember the size of the swivel, but as they is a spinning lure, you want to use a good swivel. Plus, depending on the size that you are targeting, the bites can be really viscious. For the Trebles, I pulled them off of other lures so not sure of the sizing. Kind of need to match the size of the Cudas that you will be getting into. They have big mouths and are tough so I go fairly large.
+Kayak Chris I don't think they are very productive trolling. It is more of a flats, inshore spot casting lure. A lot of work blind casting although targeting white sand patches is the best way to utilize them (outside of target casting). Since the water tends to be skinny, you would be running right over them as you troll. Barracuda are pretty skittish so would probably give them lock jaw.
I looked for stainless steel shielded wire but all that came up was single strand. Can I still use crimps with single strand? I'm not much of a knot guy. If not, where do I get the shielded wire.
Yea, you can use crimps. Tackle shops by saltwater should carry it. It is called 7-strand or 49 strand coated wire. You do want to use the multi strand as they are flexible and won't kink. The bend in the tube is important for the spin.
The way they work is that they spin/wobble through the water. From below, it gives the effect of a snake slithering on the ground. It is supposed to resemble the local Needlefish. It actually does look like a snake going through the water as it spins. That is why it is important to have a sort of bend to it rather than being perfectly straight. The color is because Cuda's bite on instinct and aggression.

I bought like a 10 ft roll of that tubing. It was sold by the same company that makes the pre-made tube lures. I think Sea Striker. They were the only ones that had it in the bright colors. You can get regular surgical tubing and even in some colors, but they are not very bright.
