Steve, I only watched three fishing shows with any regularity in my life. One of those was Spanish Fly with Jose Wejebe. I love panfish on a fly rod. Bet that is a hoot in saltwater. Seeing you fluke rig is giving me ideas on spotted bass. :)
Those Jacks are pocket beasts. Definitely bring the action. I am not a big fly guy so when you can get that "call your shot" type bite, it makes up for all those blind casts.
Thanks for a little distraction before the games, and the turkey hangover!!! Giving some thanks to on this day as well my friend. Btw, that yellow jack would've made some great sashimi appitizer while the turkey was cooking brother. I know you know, but I love eating yellow jack, so it hurt a little.... LOL.. Funny on that not so subtle tease with the sawfish at the end. Thanks for keeping it on the reeel.
happy Thanksgiving Joel. I thought about it, but I had a pot roast waiting so I wouldn't have been able to give it the attention it deserved. Thanks for watching.
LOL. Just a little bit biased are we. Joe the guy I have been fishing with is a hardcore fly guy. It was really fun but I am not sure I want to get into those buggy whips. I will probably pick up an 8-9wt and ease my way into it.
+andrew mcguirl You shall go fishing with him then and bend some rods or cast net some bait or do something take the initiative and show interest that's basic rule to fisherman
Hey Diego. Yea, I tried to squeeze out an ending but didn't make it. I was too lazy to put in a new battery and card just for a few seconds of an ending. Thanks for watching.
I hardly do any fly fishing so not the best person to explain much. I really only do it for Tarpon and that is big and bulky stuff. Sorry. I might start getting into it more so once I do I will.
Good stuff Steve I just got my new 5/6w fly rod in today hopefully i can catch some fish on it soon.Quick question have you ever tried to catch a mangrove snapper on fly?
I only have a 12 wt that is for Tarpon so have not done any light fly fishing. I am thinking about getting an 8wt which I could use for flats fishing and for fun fishing. They can be finicky, but when they are in that eating mode it would be game on.
Hey Steve, I live in Tavernier which is just south of Key Largo. I love fly fishing from my Hobie but I can't find any spots that hold fish where I can cast a fly, most of the areas that prove affective are with short rods under the mangroves. I know you are in Key West (pretty far away lol) but I was wondering if you know any good fly spots anywhere in the northern most Keys? (By the way I am willing to go as far north as I can without going to Miami and as far south as probably Laton) Thanks again for all your great videos! Happy late Thanksgiving and early Christmas!
Right now, spend time on the Atlantic side especially around the channels and bridges. Look for fish busting bait. They will be either chasing glass minnows or pilchards. Generally outgoing tide. Spend more time just watching looking for patterns. Once you figure them out, you can consistently get on them. Lots of bait around right now so fish are well fed. Gotta get them when they are active.
Key West Kayak Fishing, Thank you so much! I will definitely be on Oceanside when I go out next, and I will most definitely look for fish busting baits! Once again thank you for the help! Merry Christmas!
Love'n all the frequent uploads. Outta curiosity (and jealousy) how often would you say you get out on the water? I'm lucky if I get to go 1-2x a month, so I'm obviously jealous! Just gotta live vicariously through youtube in the meantime. xD Happy Turkey Day!
Any time I have three hours of free time. The benefits of living on a small island with no traffic issues. I've gotten very efficient with everything so I have it stream lined.
Thanks Tom. A guy I have been fishing with is a hardcore fly guy so I was testing the waters if I wanted to start into another fishing angle. It was a fun day so maybe.
I don't do it enough to teach anyone. I need to do it more often myself. It's one of those things like golf, where it is impossible to master it. Like anything, the best way is to just get out there and do it.
Don't underestimate yourself you are extremely knowledgeable, and do a great job educating people on techniques of fishing. My son and I are watching all your videos. Thank you for your time and effort creating them.
It is a cool catch. The research center sent me a sticker for reporting it. We had a sunfish come into the harbor a long time ago. They had to tow it out so it didn't get hit. Weird stuff out there in the salt.
