Hey my BRO! . Agree on your assessment. Most drummers I know (me included) have a pretty easy time at simple piano chords and melody lines. The independence gained from drumming transfers very nicely to keyboards (after all a piano IS a percussion instrument) . I can HARDLY brag about my keyboard playing but I compose on Keyboards with NOT a lot of difficulty. I mean it is hardly "clean" pitch perfect but good enough for a real keyboard player to transpose to what it was I had in mind. Hoping all is good with you !

While piano and drums are very different instruments, as a student of both instruments I can tell you that there are a lot of shared qualities. Primarily the rhythm (no duh). It would not surprise me either way if the keyboardist is just a keyboardist or if he plays percussion as well or if he is only a percussionist.

funfact james hetfield of metallica played first piano, then drums and later picked up guitar becoming a human metronome.
