I’m a music teacher with a piano background and some of my students are very interested in making music. I’m torn between choosing a midi keyboard which is what I’m comfortable with vs a launchpad which is what my students might have an easier time with
How about splitting the difference and getting a Presonus Atom SQ lol. I would say this depends on what you are teaching bcuz if it is music theory a launchpad would be a better visualization tool.
You can use a plugin like notemapper to move the keys on a keyboard around, of you can't map the vitual instrument. But playing drums on pad are generally better than on keyboard right? If you were an expert fingerdrummer (playing on the level of an expert real drummer) it would be more likely to play on pads, right? That was a question :) It's seems to me like the fragile keyboard are not meant to ble "punched" by my fingers.
I strongly disagree that piano keys are easier to change pitch on. Midi pads can be arranged isomorphic so the fingering is the same no matter what key you're in. This is not true of piano keys!
Yeah that’s true, but if you’re using a diatonic layout, you can’t modulate in a performance setting without changing the layout, which can be tricky when you’re in a middle of a song. You can of course use a chromatic layout, but for most people with some piano knowledge, a keyboard layout is easier than a chromatic pad layout. This is of course when modulating mid song, not when just changing keys to play a different song.
