Great video Stuart, totally understand where your coming from with the educational stuff, I think you being out on location & talking through your compositions/camera set up is all that most photographers need regardless of ability. Anything outside of that should then be done in a paid for workshop so good on ya for being honest with your subscribers. I love watching your channel & the work you produce it is very inspiring.

Thanks Shaun yeah this platform is not something I make much from so it makes little sense to provide my services on here for free

Thanks Stuart. I can appreciate your views on free education which are entirely justified. Having said that I enjoyed your vlog and it really benefited from avoiding the "here's 49 top tips etc" and just focused on a 2 or 3. Nice one. Thanks again and all the best.

Excellent video. Great examples of the points that you were making. Enjoyed seeing the really well composed images and how well they were exposed.

I needed to watch this. I barely consider foreground most of the time (though I guess that means at least I'm not putting random uninteresting rocks in there), and I really should think about it more. Thanks for the video! PS. Can't believe I won! Very lucky.

Well at least you were honest about why you don't do educational videos Stuart. Glad that others do them as I'd never have got into photography seriously if they didn't.

Despite its flaws it certainly can be a good platform for beginners to find information

Really can’t blame you for not wanting to teach on here when you do workshops, it’s like taking money out of your own pocket I guess. Thanks for these tips anyhow, I just need to get up to Wastwater to put them into practice. It’s one place I’ve always wanted to visit but I believe it’s a hard place to photograph, make it interesting, more so as I’m predominantly a Street Photographer 😂

Good tips about doing things with a purpose. I have probably heard the 'getting closer to the foreground interest' part, but it made more sense this time. Thanks!

Hi Stuart, good advice that will go a long long way. I have not picked up my DSLR for a few months but have tried to keep my eye in with frequent visits to the Lakes and Yorkshire Dales. Wastwater is one of my special places and have stopped a few times at the Wasdale Inn. Love the image at 08.55. That deserves a large wall to hang on. Hopefully will pop in to see you when next in Keswick. Take Care, Andrew

Wise words there Stuart, love the Wast Water rocks too😍. I go with the, use the longest focal that gets the framing spot on. 🤗

Great video on what for many is a really challenging subject. I know personally, the difficulty I find when trying to discover foreground interest is being able to identify what is interesting and what isn't. Many a time I've thought I've found something interesting, but then when I'm reviewing what I've captured, it looks anything but interesting. So the key skill here to learn is how differentiate between what constitutes being interesting and what doesn't. I still don't feel I have this nailed, though I maybe better than I was.

I have long avoided wide angle landscape shots for the very reasons you mentioned; they didn't seem to work with the rest of the image. I will now try to employ the tips you have presented. Thank you very much.

Thanks for the free tips Stuart 😁, however, I do agree with your principles on 'free' education. One day I might get on a course. I wish that this video had come out yesterday and then, maybe, I wouldn't have made some of those mistakes when I was out this morning. 🙄 I will try and remember them for the next time that I go out though. Glad to hear that you have been busy (hopefully in a profitable way). As ever, great video and I shall look forward to the next one. Cheers bud.
