Thank you, Will! As a student who is struggling to pay his bills due to Covid-19 I am so so glad you put out these awesome tutorials basically for free. And it gives us something to do in quarantine as well :) Stay safe and thank you!
Wonderful tutorial! I agree: we don't want "short". Finally I could see and understand the difference of the Fall Off settings and Bloom. Thank you so much
You'll need to hide the ground plane. A physical ground plane is geometry (even if you can see through it). You'll need to have ground shadows turned on in the environment settings and enable ground illumination if you want in the real-time render settings. Then, hide your physical ground plane and render with transparency and it should work out.
@@WillGibbons i see.... i actually did that to get transparent bkground . I just had a doubt if i hide the ground plane then it may loose some properties in the overall render .. But you just cleared my doubt... Thank you very much sir :) . Fan btw 💕
Hi Will, I find this tutorial to be really enlighting! I always have a question that i sould like to get sorted out, do keyshot profesionals prefer physical lights or HDRI on the most part? Thanks!
I think it's going to depend 100% on each unique situation. HDRIs render faster, but if you struggle to get the lighting the way you want or to dial in your shadows with the HDRI, then area lights are the way to go. It's not one over the other, just think of one as a Flathead screw driver and the other as a Philips head. Different tools for different jobs!
That's an interesting request! If I don't get to it anytime soon, I might recommend using the new material called translucent medium as a starting point!
Awesome video! Simplifies all about lightning. I have question though. I'm using keyshot 8, i don't know if thats the problem, but when i add a pin on a geometry added cube, the light illuminates the whole face of the cube. When i reduce the pin size the light becomes weaker but i don't manage to get the pin light contour on the object. Thanks!
If your light gets weaker when you scale the pin down (and it will), you need to increase the brightness. To get the contour, the light needs to be LARGER than the object and placed behind or to the side of your object. Hope that helps.
Fantastic, Will. I'm a beginner so the moderate pace and longer length was nice. The "lecture" in the beginning and the demos in the second half was a good format as well. Thank you.
Super nice tutorial - thank you! Is it possible to export the Environment as HDR to use in a different software? Manual says so but I can only save "HDZ"s...
You should be able to export other formats unless it's endoded as HDZ. Environments that are protected, like some of the photographic environments in KeyShot's library are not able to be exported.
Thank you @@WillGibbons , yes you`re right- HDRs can be adjusted and exported. It`s just that all the KS environments are HDZ- also the studios etc. Well- I`ll get some elswhere then. Cheers!
I've been using Keyshot for a couple years now and I can tell you that in terms of lighting I've completely learned more from this 45 min tutorial than I have from experience (which honestly speaks poorly of my skills but then at my job they generally want fast, simple renderings) as I've never really taken the time to go deep into every feature. Looking forward to your next tutorials and I just signed up to your latest webinar on material graphs, definitely excited about that one. Amazing job!
Hi, could you please make one video on jewelry light setting to get realistic view. Because there is one video of women ring 💍 rendering. But that’s too basic.
Sure! Why not? I suppose you should be sure the product you're advertising is practically identical so you're not advertising something that you're not selling. That said, nearly all the marketing shots you see from large companies are indeed renderings.
Hi James! Yeah, Sheri's awesome. I enjoyed working with the team at Luxion! Eventually, I wanted to shift my focus to some other things and also wanted to travel less. (this was before the whole pandemic) Glad to help!
Will Gibbons your Chanel is probably the best education on key shot! Really can’t think you enough, I learning new skill from your Chanel every day. Keep up the good work! I hope keyshot pay your well, because we just bought more license at ibm because of your tutoring video
thanks for the tutorial you are a good teacher. I have been using keyshot for a while for basic renders of models I sell. I would rather spend time modeling than rendering. I have been struggling with keyshot for a while.
Nicely Video, Thanks a lot Will for all your support in the Theory and Practice area into Renders. PD: Use music for the background like that amazing explanation you did, just for reduce the noise (grain) in the result! ;D THANKS wanna see the next tutorial video
