I say Keyshot 8 worth every penny, now it is as good as Substance Painter when it comes to PBR texturing. That's really heaven. Thanks for sharing the tips, mate.
Super good tutorials for those who want to further enhance their keyshot skills! Thank you for the generous sharing!! I have a confusion about the "source"/"alpha source"/"background" of the color composite note. Could you explain a little bit more about the difference and usage of them? Thanks again:)
Hello! I can't recreate what you are showing on the video. I am new to Keyshot and I am using Keyshot 8.2. The problem is that in Material Graph it isn't possible to connect Paint node to Metal node. It just doesn't snap. I would appreciate any help. Thanks! UPD: I've find out how to do that. I have had to connect Paint node to Material as Label 1 (and Metal to Material as Surface), this way Paint goes on top of Metal, - it just like layers in Photoshop. Maybe this would be useful for newbies like me.
Awesome Tutorials Esben, one of the best channels I have seen so far!!! Keep it up! I did the worn paint thing with the Oclusion node in the past but your looks better : )
Thank you very very much for this detailed tutorial and also all the others you have. Just found you and your channel - it is exactly what I needed right now. This is really amazing! Keep up the good work man.
Esben you opened the door for a total new world for me! I am watching all your videos these days and I am learning everything in so short time! I work with architecture and I always used vray as a render engine, but these past few days I discovered your videos, and gave Keyshot a try.... I thought it was only good for product design and with poor results but, MAN I WAS WRONG ALL ALONG! In these days I basically learnt how material graph works and I became able to create pretty decent materials with your help! I really appreciate your kindness and professionalism. Great job Esben T H A N K Y O U
Hi Esben, thank you so much for this tute. It has helped me overcome some of the overwhelming confusing aspects of the keyshot material workflow. I notice your texture pack featured on Artstation is no longer available on your gumroad -- it is some glorious stuff. Is there a new one in the pipeline?
Hi Esben! The training video is super cool. I thought I'd give it a try because I have a project that's a sci-fi exoskeleton protector, and I wanted to create worn edges... so far, it hasn't worked out 😅 I added a metal material at the start, but it looks different, not like yours. I can't even connect the paint material to the Label by default metal . Do I need another metal material for the surface to make it active. Then, where you mask the edges, I also get a nice blurred black (in preview mode), but when I switch the colors back on, my edges turn black... I didn't go further from there because it seemed pointless 😅 I guess I'm not the first one to struggle with this 😅 thanks your answer☺️✌️
Yeah, the interface and process have changed since KS7. I'm not using KeyShot anymore so my best advice would be to seek out newer tutorials showing something similar :) Good luck!
Okay, no problem, I just thought I'd ask 😅. In the meantime, I realized that the lighting environment also matters in this case. I added four regular studio lights, and now the black edges became metallic. Since then, the project's render is complete 😅. But I think I'll switch to Substance for texturing, as many say it's easier 😅
Great tutorial. I'm just starting with keyshot but was really helpful. How could I apply the wear and scratches to just some edges but not all? I'm working on a camera and I don't want to have scratches and wear on all the edges, just a couple of places where the wear naturally happens. Thanks!
Hi ! Thanx a lot for sharing ! Is there a meaning to get your ressources for this tuto ? Your link looks dead :( Just to have your different textures in the tutorial of course) thanx a lot !
Great and useful as usual, especially for learning the material graph features first hand instead of reading and remembering them. Would anyone happen to know how to make rendering faster when there's a lot of glass or transparent plastic on the scene? Render time of more than 30 minutes is already a lot when you have a number of assignments in a day, how to imitate transparent materials without adding too much rendering time? I tried applying grey solid color map to a diffuse material to make it transparent by opacity texture, but it doesn't really do much of a favor to the precious time. Rendering it alone and then adding it in Photoshop can't alwayd give the best effect, especially when light source or emissive material is behind the glass. Ever encountered similar problem, Esben? Thanks in advance!
Thanks so much for this. I am going to finally get to work on something been pending for a while. QUICK question.. how would you add a label on top of all this?
When i add a material to the product (like aluminum brushed for instance) it keeps the metal box and the brushed box in the Material Graph, the last one is locked somehow, i can't delete it or do anything with it, so my Material Graph is different from yours, cause yours only have the metal box (my aluminum box blocks the metal box, so i can't make connections). I'm starting to learn how to use Keyshot, so i'm probably making some stupid mistake, does anyone know how to fix that?
I got exactly the same problem... Impossible to get rid of this "Material" Node. When you don't link this last node to all the previous ones, the whole thing doesn't apply on the 3D model...
Hi Jonas. Drag it to the 'label' input of the root node (the one to the far right). Not shown in the video as the workflow has been changed since the video was recorded :) Hope it helps.
