Keystone/Montana Suburban Stove Recall!

Recently I was notified by Keystone about a recall on our Montana 2022 fifth wheel, warning that the 3 burner Suburban Stove in our fifth wheel could possibly be a fire hazard, all affected owners should be contacted by Keystone. Unfortunately the approved repair eliminates the functioning LED knob lights and the oven light.

Received my letter also. They are sending me a REPAIR KIT and a email. So I use there wire caps and I'm to take pictures send to them and they will close out my recall. Now I will have no lights. I think Keystone show pay and replace the stove in all rv's with this issue. We all payed mega $$$$ for these units. Everyone needs let Keystone we a not satisfied with there cheap fix. !!!

Good morning Steve. I agree 100% I called Keystone customer service this week to complain about how they are handling this issue. I was shocked at their response. They said that this is a Suburban decision, and they are standing behind Suburban. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was told that I can not!!! Can you believe that??? They gave me a Suburban number to call. And basically told me to go pound sand. What is it with the RV manufacturers?? Are they trying to give Grand Design some competition for the worse customer service in the industry?? Very frustrating!!! Yes, I understand this is a very minor inconvenience, but its the principle behind it. They just need to do the right thing, and unfortunately, these corporations have a hard time doing that!!

There is no reason to lose the oven light. It's not involved with the default. The fix is just cutting the 12 volt supply and leave all the wiring, nobs, oven light just hanging. This is not a fix. this is the easiest way out. I want the updated blue lights installed. That's a fix. This was one of the safety items I liked. in a truck camper it is easy to bump a nob. The RV industry sucks. It's never the manufacturer that warranty's things. The manufacturer installs every other manufacturer item's so they can send you to them. LOL I should have thought of that. Sell an item that I have no responsibility for. Suburban did the math on this and decided it was too costly to fix the right way. Welcome to RV life.....

I called Suburban and actually talked to a real person. To me his response sounded nervous. He relayed the issue and said that at this time they had not come up with a solution. I agree, this is definitely not right. Why can't they supply a replacement PCB? We own a 2023 Outdoors RV 24RLS with the same stove. Although not the rv manufacturers fault it should be fixed or replaced. ORV rigs are not cheap either. Class action lawsuit?

I agree, a quality, sealed (potted) pcb would solve all this. Im just astonished that this is the path they have decided to go down. Outdoors RV's are high end units. Have you tried calling them??

I am furious about this!! It makes sense now since Thor owns Suburban and Keystone. I'm getting ready to "show myself" on this one. I encourage everyone affected to do the same.

Thanks for the comment!! Im sure Suburban is reading them, and wondering if they should make a change in how they are handling this PR nightmare. Im still amazed at their decision to go this route.

Totally agree that this wrong!!! Do they not know that most of us are retired and have time on our hands to take this to a higher level!! I will do my best to rattle cages too!!

Thanks John. That might be the only way we can get Keystone to do the right thing. Im sure they have seen my video, and are hoping im just a small youtuber, and this will all just go away. I so wish that this video would go viral, and they would have to answer for their terrible response. Please let me know what you find out through your attempts. Good luck.

@@retirementwithpete9859 Well, I just killed about an hour or so but I did get to speak to 1 level up from the customer service level. No real news except that he said "this doesn't land on deaf ears" to try and make me think that something may be done in the future...... yea right! I'm trying to contact suburban now and will see what response they have..... very frustrating!

Im impressed that you made it past their first line of defense. They have absolutely no desire to try to make this right. They are using the excuse that they have to follow Suburbans lead. hich is baloney. Im just totally shocked at how they are handling this. I didnt even try calling Suburban. But now I think I will.

This is unacceptable to as many others have commented, we paid a hefty price for our Montanas only to have this expedient fix. I hope that enough people get riled up and legal action is taken against Thor and Keystone.

I haven't contacted ORV. They mailed out notices to owners. Apache RV is who we purchased from and they are only able to do the disconnect as prescribed by Suburban. As a side note I mailed a check to ESP Norcold for the extended service plan for our Norcold fridge in the same rig, (it has a faulty touch pad) it was sent back with a letter stating they would no longer be offering extended warranties on Thetford and Norcold products. All not good for the RV industry.

I’m wondering if the NHTSA has any oversight on how the recalls are performed and if the manufacturers are bound by any governing law.

I just discovered the recall fix on my 2022 Montana. The rig was at the dealership for other repairs and they mentioned without full details a recall was corrected. I discovered my light switch missing while cooking breakfast this morning. Totally agree this is unacceptable. It appears everyone is sending letters and/or calling. Should we start a collective on this? What’s the consensus here?

Sorry Thomas, I somehow missed your comment. Yes, I totally agree. Something on a larger platform needs to be done. If not, Im sure Suburban will just carry on, hoping the dust will settle, and the complaints will stop.

We just discovered this change on our first outing after having other warranty work performed at the dealer. The shop didn’t tell us anything about the recall until I called them today. This is definitely a safety issue for (1) telling us a burner had been left on, (2) warning everyone and especially the children that a burner is on. We had an incident where someone hip dialed the burner and left the propane flowing. It was only after the propane alarm sounded that I realized the problems. We paid for this safety feature and depend on this feature. I will be calling out RV manufacturer (Winnebago) as well as the stove manufacturer and insist that they fix this the right way.

@@ProofOfDragons we also had an incident camping in July. The kids were playing inside and came out of the camper saying it stinks. I went in and immediately smelled the gas. They had brushed by one of the knobs turning it on. I will be following up with the manufacturer for sure. I told them up front this was going to happen

I wish you better luck than I had. Keystone was steadfast in their decision to follow the recommendation from Suburban. Even if it leaves their customers with an inferior fix. Very frustrating that they believe that this is fair for the consumer!! Please let me know what Winnebago says!!

i agree with you NOT HAPPY with keystone anyway been nothing but FIX AFTER FIX!!! GLAD YOU DID THIS VIDEO CAUSE I REFUSE TO TAKE MY TO MY STEALER!! everytime i do the f something up!!

Hopefully Suburban will see the responses, and approve a permanent repair that returns the stove to its original condition. We will see.

Just spoke with keystone and with an extremely annoying pleasant voice the representative just passed the buck to suburban. Keystone is ultimately responsible for the equipment they put in there units. It’s still a reflection on them regardless.

I have a 2022 Winnebago Voyage with the same set up. Suburban needs to make this right. As it's been said we didn't buy a luxury RV to have this eliminated. Maybe a class action lawsuit would be an option.

Dealing with the same recall with my 2023 Northern Lite truck camper. Spent time on the phone with suburban and was given no good reason as to why a satisfactory fix was not available. They repeatedly stated that there engineers where working on a fix. I personally don't believe a word of it. No way to talk to said engineering people to get answers. I have concluded that they have no real intention of making this right. If anyone has any good ideas about how to get them to make this right I would love to hear it.

Hi Thomas. Im am utterly dumbfounded by the response from both Suburban and Keystone on this issue. And the feds only concern is that the risk of harm has been removed. I would love to see a class action suit be brought up against both of them.

I’m 2nd owner to 2021 and I’ve had several issues with this cheap suburban stove. Not sure how keystone deals would deal with this? Any insight welcomed! 😊

My Heartland Prowler is top of crop and I don’t agree they should just half ass it either. When you pay $60,000 and up on something it should be fix and still nice. Let us know what the letter said.

Spoke with suburban. Not sure if this the response anyone got but the representative stated the current fix was to eliminate the hazard while they are trying to figure a permanent fix so the stove works as designed. Although she could not guarantee anything. I still find it odd. It’s not rocket science or am I wrong.

Hey Thomas. Very odd. The response you got from Suburban does not match the response I got from Keystone. I totally understand coming up with a temporary "fix" to eliminate the risk of injury, but Keystone had implied that this was the permanent repair!! Lets see if Suburban actually comes up with a fix that returns the stoves to their original condition. We will see. I will definitely keep on them. Thanks for sharing your info.

@@retirementwithpete9859 for sure. I vehemently told Suburban the current fix was understandable, however not acceptable as a permanent. I also cannot understand the blasé stance on the whole thing by keystone. I will share any updates here. I am definitely going to stay on this one as well. Thanks a bunch for posting this

Hi Veronica. I understand that the "fix" eliminates the risk of a fire, but there are better ways to accomplish that, without deleting all the light functions. Especially the oven light!! How an office full of decision makers decided this would be an acceptable repair, is beyond me! I did call Keystone. But the response was very disappointing. Keystone is standing behind Suburban on the repair. I couldnt even get past the customer service person, to talk to a supervisor!! Not the type of service I expected from Keystone.

How could they have thought for one moment, that would be an acceptable "fix" to a safety recall?? I told my wife, Sara, that she was losing her oven light, and she was not happy😬
