On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.
If you enjoy war thunder or Microsoft flight simulator 2020 or even dogfighting in Battlefield 2042, consider getting yourself into Digital Combat Simulator by Eagle Dynamics, the Combat side of Aviation with the BVR and Dogfights really provides a different and interesting perspective on aviation. @@traviswalker8933Geometry, Aerodynamics, specific FBW technology, and A Country’s engine technology limits the amount of variety you could ever have in a “stealth fighter” even if Russia did it first. America wouldn’t be copying them as it would be a massive limitation set. Gen 4 allowed tons of more room for “uniqueness”. I’d say the most Unique of the 5th Gen’s has to be the YF-23. It’s superb FBW, and nutty engines it had allowed it to be the way it is though. Idk if we will get another aircraft like that in a while. Everyone so stuck to the more conventional F-22, Su-57, F-35 looks. The second most unique design has to be the J-20, it’s the only stealth aircraft rocking a delta canard config, and the only non American aircraft to have legit looking stealth coatings.

Boramae literally translates as Baby bird of prey like Hawk or Eagle. If you remember Bird of prey is the definition of the word “Raptor”. So the Koreans literally named their jet Korean F-21 baby Raptor as a homage to the F-22 adult bird of prey

From what i understand regarding the KF-21s main air to air missile, is the South Koreans chooses the Meteor missile instead of the Aim-120 Amraam because of the range that is superior to the Chinese PL-15s. The Koreans also i believed develop 5 of the technologies involved in the Boramae.

One of why KF-21 has been designed to be compatible with Meteor air-to-air missiles is that Meteor is appropriate to the anti-stealth tactics that both South Korean F-35A and KF-21 will carry on together. This needs long explanation...

KF-21 is primarily armed with the Euro-produced Meteor air to air misles. I have not studied Chinese air Force misles , I wonder if they have a equivalent to the MBD Meteor. Is anyone here an expert on the Chinese air force ??

I have a question for this astute body of commenters: Instead of flying in formation -- any formation -- if say, a three ship (like the Boramaes in this video) weaved in and out among one another, constantly changing places, would that make it more difficult for an adversary to get a radar lock on any of them? That would actually possibly increase the radar energy they would be returning if the radar waves reflected from one reflected off another back to the adversary radar.

At range, radar sees the group as one contact anyways. If they split up on missile launch, the missile will just pick whichever one is giving the strongest contact. You're close to something though, some fighters have towed decoys that the pull with a long cable. This way an incoming missile tracks 500ft behind you or so.

Something thats bugged me for a while: if a stealth jet has its lowest RCS from the front, would it not be better to fly straight at a radar missile, and maybe fire a decoy?

It's a good question but most likely not. The reason is stealth doesn't mean you're invisible tor radar, it just means it makes you harder to detect and only at closer ranges than normal. As a missile closes in on you, it will get past the range where your stealth, even from the front, prevents detection. If you're still headed straight for the missile at this point, it will almost certainly hit you. This is why notching it and forcing it to bleed its energy is still the best option. But, as I mentioned, your stealth would theoretically allow you to get much closer, and even get the first shots off before your opponent can fire, giving you a higher probability of kill (pK).

KF21 will carry Meteors and AMRAAM hasn't been integrated yet. You can see that all test flights of KF21 has 4 METEOR missiles on the under carriage. That might level the playing field a lot. But anyway, great video as always!

It has a 5th gen airframe, but currently lacks internal weapons bays and stealth coating. That will be introduced later in its development cycle. It is currently 4.5 gen to the best of my knowledge.

They look quite similar to F-22 because F-22 has one of the best structural configuration for stealth to this date, if not the best. I wouldn't be suprised if other nations develop 5th or 6th gen fighters and they would look just like F-22 as well.

Those Flankers may be the prettiest jet aircraft ever ever produced. Imagine what they would look like if the vertical stabilizers were configured like an F-18? I am curious to know if you also fly in msfs 2020? If you do, you should try out the A2A Piper Comanche 250. It feels like I own the real aircraft and if you don't operate it properly you can break it or damage or destroy the engine. Its worth every penny it costs.

And also there’s only so many ways you can design a jet to be low observable. Same reason all modern production cars look the same. Aerodynamics don’t change between countries. Also mainly, it looks cool.

Most likely because there are only so many shapes you can use to make a decent stealth fighter, and they most likely got some help from the US government as well. There are several fighters in development by European and Asian powers using western tech, and they all have more or less taken on these similar design traits even if they're not identical to each other. I personally thought the KF-21 looked more like a twin engine F-35 because of the wing shape, but the tail shape matches the F-22 more accurately as well, so really they probably borrowed a mix of features from both.

It's developed with Lockheed Martin as the advisory partner....of course it's going to be similar. If you want your aircraft to have good aerodynamics and RCS, the designs are going to be pretty similar.

You mentioned at one point that you couldn't help your wingman. I'd be interested to see the strategies involved in doing that. Maverick throws his fighter in front of the missile - pretty sure that's not usually an option. lol

KF-21 carries Meteor. The prototypes already have internal carriage - only the first single engine prototype had no space for internal weapons. It should have stealth performance similar to J-20 or SU-57. The idea that its low observability is still 4th gen is based on a 5th gen geometry with a traditional skin and 4th Gen export variant coatings like on Have Glass export versions. They actually have indigenous stealth materials that perform better than Have Glass V export, and they are integrating it into the airframe. Also they have the Have Glass V export tech to use for coatings. (The same tech has a different codeword, which I don't know, when applied to allied aircraft - Have Glass is the codeword for F-16 specifically, IIRC.) I think the best matchup on the Chinese side will be the FC-31/J-31/F-60 (or whatever we think they call it this week.) These two airframes, I think, will be the spiciest new fast jets out there in the near to mid term. NGAD is going to shake things up radically though... I can't wait. Yes yes 6th Gen ... I think its really "advanced 5th Gen" ... whatever. It's gonna make F-22 look like an antique. What is more exciting is that they are planning a new "Century series" based on a number of manufacturing mini-revolutions coming down the pipe even faster than we hoped. It's going to be a great time to be a fan of fast jets ... assuming they only fight in DCS.

The KF 21 seems like a really decent package and impressive for a small country like Korea to produce / probably marginally better than the f 35 in some aspects but it’s good to see the flanker get some good air to air kills

Never heard about the KF-21 before, but it looked quite familiar to say the least. So i looked it up and it said it was made in cooperation with Lockheed Martin… Yeah, how could you tell?

Lockheed Martin has been contributing as an advisory role. I think it has potential to be a great fighter :)
