It's so nice to see him talk like this and arguing calmly and explaining. Man I wish he was my friend it's never boring listening to a guy like this speak.
He's not saying judo is superior in itself. He's saying there are more players in the judo game, thus a higher level of competition. And I think he's completly right.
@@mohammedsouali2102 No, in this video it's clear sorry. In another video maybe he says otherwise, then show me the other video and I can comment on it if u need :)
The context of this video is Kayla Harris and Cejudo talking about wich medal is hardest to win, (both are gold medalist) Kayla in judo and Cejudo in wrestling, that’s what Khabib is talking about.
To understand how powerful judo can be in MMA, just look at Islam’s Judo throws and foot sweeps. Judo is underrated & Islam’s judo is so often overlooked!
That's not what khabib meant, he is not saying it's more effective in mma, he is saying the gold medal in judo is more prestigious because judo is more popular in the world and thus the competition is higher at the top level.
Especially old school Judo. I'm a bjj guy with limited exposure to judo. It's the most complete system for grappling (old way of teaching.. waza and ne waza)
People somewhat misunderstood what he's saying. He's not saying judo is necessarily better than wrestling but that the skill and talent pool is better because it's become such a prominent Olympic art. The same way karate and BJJ went all over the world, so did judo and like wrestling it's rough and scrappy grappling. So in the Olympics you only get the best of the best in judo and because so many countries compete in it, it's really only the best of the best of the best at the top.
thank you. you explained it beautifully. people often can't hear past the second language barrier. the English speakers are probably most guilty of this.
Judo only respect clean throw and clean submissions. In BJJ or Wrestling, they can have point with leg lace, backtake, or guard pass but not in Judo. Leg lace or Daki Wakare dont have a point, but have one in wrestling
@@aitemirmelisov9748 I'll answer instead:-) I don't know most useful or not, can just retell my father's anecdotal experiences. My step father in the 80's and 90's was a competing judo practitioner, and many a time he had to defend himself on the streets (criminality level was crazy high back then here), and by his words he never had any difficulties even against competing local boxers. He used pretty much pure judo in those fights. Just a one man's story, I bet it's not what you use but how you use it, implementing the skill set you have wisely knowing its strengths and weaknesses
He’s not saying Judo is better than wrestling. He’s simply saying that Judo has much more competitive because there’s way more people competing in it compared to wrestling.
Respect to you Khabib, you are a role model for all young people who want to achieve something, no matter what sport, you have to devote yourself completely to achieve something and work hard 💪👌
I don't think so. There's no judogi in MMA where you use the opponent's momentum. So what you need to take the opponent down is strength, grip, endurance and technique. Judo allows you to take your opponent down with your opponent's center of gravity and basically you can't wrap the legs, it's restricted in that regard. But freestyle wrestling is two-sided and has a lot more options. For example, double leg takedowns and somethings like that. So Judokas who go outside the rules of Olympic Judo (i.e. Judoka who grasp the legs, etc.) are actually technically going outside these restricted "Judo" rules and becoming like a wrestler. Because of these limited rules, it is difficult for a Judoka to challenge a wrestler with just Judo. The other defense techniques they uses are actually things that are also in Freestyle Wrestling. It is a very close sport, almost all the techniques are the same, but Wrestling is more comprehensive and two-way because Judo has restrictions
@@dogukandogan6554you do realize judo has double legs and single legs? Morote gari and Kuchicki Daoshi? Leg grabs are apart of judo and have always been taught and utilized until 2010. It’s only Olympic style judo and judo clubs that leg grabs are banned. Then there Sambo which is more like old school judo than judo in the Olympics today. Luckily it’s still around and has no dumb sport rules to ban grabbing legs.
@@dogukandogan6554Judo have leg grabbing techniques, not allowed in Olympic doesnt mean they dont train it. You talking about Ruleset not their techniques.
Judo uses a person and their strength against themselves. Sweeps, trips and throws. Very technical. Wrestling is pure strength and technique, but I love judo
Why do people act like people don't wear clothes, Judo isn't useless because it has gi grips. Many Judo throws and submissions are no gi, and the gi throws have no gi variants. Judo is effective in both MMA, and even scarier in a no rules fight
@@matta1966For someone who dont do Judo, Judo is useless for you. You think Judo is about gi. Judo can be done even without a gi. Most Judoka train no Gi after the class, mostly for fun only.
Important part is - you should be able to hold clothes. If it's winter judo wins but during summer when people wear t shirts it's freestyle wrestling. Holding by clothes is much easier
Khabib - judo is the best, I played football at a high level: with the Polish national team and the Dutch league, and judo helped me achieve success in all this 💪
I didnt like judo until i started learning the no gi stuff and now i even enjoy the gi its very technical. Also i started seeing judo in mma after training for a while and its similar to wrestling but much more upper body throws and sweeps/trips so very useful from the clinch
One time I was at a really high level wrestling tournament with my kid when he was in high school, multiple states involved, multiday, pretty wild. The Jr. Japanese wrestling team was there and decided to join. Turns out they were all washouts from Judo, couldnt even make the B team in judo. They also had never wrestled folkstyle a single time. They all wrestled up a whole weight class because they werent expecting to even be at a tournament. They took 1st, 2nd in every single weight class, except for maybe 2 3rd placers. Judo isnt "better" than wrestling, but the level of competition in Judo at the top is astronomical.
That's not what khabib meant, he is not saying it's more effective in mma, he is saying the gold medal in judo is more prestigious because judo is more popular in the world and thus the competition is higher at the top level
Unfortunately judo got weaker after altering their rules. For example they don't allow double leg takedowns anymore. They removed it because of Russian judokas dominating, being well versed or having background in freestyle wrestling and Sambo.
I've been doing Jiu Jitsu for a while (4.5 years) and have a blue belt in it, but then, 2 years ago, when I was I white belt, I read about the OG Gracie vs Kimura fight, which was dominated by Kimura, and I recall Kimura or one of his guys saying that the softness of the mat is one of the reason their throws were not decisive in neutralizing Grandmaster Helio Gracie right away, and it clicked in my brain that in a real fight on the street where no mats or soft surfaces exist, no matter how good I would get in Jiu Jitsu, a wrestler or judoka would beat me up easily if they land a great takedown from the get-go. The more I went to the Jiu Jitsu gym, I realized that some time in the 1980s, BJJ stopped caring that much for takedowns, and focused more on the rolling that comes afterwards, with the assumption that you will be taken down by the other guy and he would try to mount. So I kept doing Jiu Jitsu, but I started attending one Judo class and one Sambo class per week. I was being decimated, especially in Sambo which turned out to be basically rough Judo... 2 months later (only 8 classes all in all), my Jiu Jitsu got so much better, and started tapping blue and purple belts right then and there. No martial art is ever complete on its own.
Hes right a High Level Judoka can Beat the Best Wrestlers & other Grapplers! Watch Sakuraba he Defeated the Gracies when everyone tought the Gracies were Unbeatable!
Lowkey he right tho Go watch a view videos on judo, like training documentaries, amateur tournaments, high level tournaments and you will understand brudda.
Idk man we got some pretty good ones or at least the judokas I’ve sparred with. I’ve sparred with fighters with all kinds of different bases from Muay thai to wrestling but the Judo based fighters always give me the hardest time😂😂😂
Pretty soon Judo as a whole will suck. They keep taking away from the art in competitions. Eventually people with aspirations to compete at the highest level will only know like 50% of actual judo
@@BtchLckNutsdotcomwhat that statement means is the U.S. has never had a male gold medalist. Other countries judo participation and programs are much better. Example: country of Georgia has a population of 3 million and has 4 gold medals in judo at the Olympics, 3 in wrestling and 3 in weight lifting. They have 4 gold medals in judo at the European championship and 4 gold in sambo at those championships The U.S. has a population of 320 million and we still haven’t had a male gold medalist.
Who was a top judo competitor that made it at high level in the ufc? And i mean the person had to be a top guy in the judo olympics or whatever it is like how you got DC who was a state champ, but with judo? Judo doesnt carry over very well compared to other grappling sports, into fighting. Judo works great if you're fighting in clothes and especially a jacket on and even works ok in no gi or no shirt and just shorts but it doesnt carry over like wrestling or jiu jitsu and thats probably one main reason why judo grapplers dont join ufc or mma.
