Back when this was owned by Disney. Disney had to sell KCAL to buy ABC. Young Broadcasting bought the station. Young sold the station to CBS after its disastrous purchase of KRON in San Francisco and then fumbling away that station’s NBC affiliation. (KRON would eventually have to rent space from KGO and its master control would be moved to WISH-TV in Indianapolis, and now is at KWGN in Denver.)
Dunphy was at KNXT in the beginning, then to KABC before KCAL. I think there was a brief time when he was not on KCAL, but then he returned. I don't remember David Jackson being at KABC. Where did he go?
@@gidzmobug2323 - Duopolies weren’t allowed until 2000. In fact, until then, one couldn’t even own stations in adjacent markets with overlapping city grade signals. For instance, the ownership of KPIX and KOVR, both CBS owned and operated stations now, wouldn’t have been allowed then (in 2000, KPIX was an O&O buy KOVR was owned by Sinclair Broadcasting).
@@gidzmobug2323 Same thing almost when Dumont went out of business, they thought the name was an albatross and they became independents under Metropolitan, Metromedia, and finally when Murdoch bought them, and the became the foundation for the Fox Network.
@@gidzmobug2323 its also why the KHJ call letters also disappeared on 101.1 fm and 930 am, the reason 930 am got the KHJ call letters back was because it turned into a Spanish radio station and they needed to change there call letters to KKHJ since the one that they were using KRTH were being used by 101.1 fm but saying KKHJ in Spanish sounded like "Ca Ca" (which is poop in Spanish) and the FCC let 930 am to bring back there original KHJ call letters.
