This battle just shows how good legend is at this game. watching his micro and the AI having no idea how to counter it and just running around without a plan. Taking them all out piece by piece. This is the highest of gameplays that you can watch and learn from.
The real challenge with bretonnia is always keeping motivation high with time, and play tricky battles manually like this with long micro intensive efforts multiple times. It can drag you down and lose interest, long campaigns till end game can exhaust the will of play if you are not ready for this. It’s probably the main reason many players hate bretonnia. But it’s the best way to get good results and overcome legendary, and it’s a decently strong faction (specially since last buffs) when played like this… Not the strongest, but certainly not the weakest. Today I had a similar issue with Skarbrand, he sallied out of a settlement I was besieging, so he was the attacker. He just blobbed up, even though he was on the attack and I tried all my tricks in the book in order to spilt his force into smaller parts (hiding, putting out only a hero, splitting into 6 or more parts, etc.), he just straight up ignored it and sent all force against one target staying in a compact formation all the time. While I could technically set a clock for the battle and he'd loose, because his attack failed, it was pretty frustrating. This strategy worked so much better in WH2.
Bretonnia is actually very strong in the players hands but yes most players don't like....actually playing the game.....the amount of micro is minuscule compared to any other RTS as well. Doesn't require 400+ amp like other games do but requires you to do more then just watch units fly into each other
@@BadDr3ams you don't have to re tell your orders 30 time a second in most other RTS for your units to disengage or go where you tell them to go. You can micro yours marines in SC2 because they shoot 3 time per second. Archers in TW stops, look around ankwardly, face the ennemy, ready, aim, and thanks god the ennemy cavalry is just as irresponsive because you can finally shoot... It take a very special kind of fast patience to learn good micro in TW
I've only played Warhammer 1 so far so my experience is obviously a bit different from the Warhammer 3 one. But my main dislike with Bretonnia is having to bring cavalry to siege battles and since basically every battle is a siege battle... Well... Cavalry is fun and engaging in open field battles though, I don't love cavalry micro and dealing with units constantly getting stuck after charges but it's really satisfying playing armies where you have the speed advantage.
@@Foil09 you don't have supply lines for Brettonia, so a good idea might be to have one dedicated siege army (trebs, archers, battle pilgrims, 4-5 knights) for every 2 open field armies (knight armies). Just be careful that your siege army doesn't get caught in the open field without a knight army close to reinforce it. Or you can just do the simple thing and recruit a few royal hippogryph stacks and you are set.
This is a very "chivalrous" battle. Not only because there's knights on both sides, but because instead of all-out brawl it's a series of small duels between few knights when the rest of both armies just sit and watch.
Knights vs Chosen, Khorne vs Bretonnia, Doomstack vs Doomstack. What a glorious fight on thr onset. And with how fast Knights of the realm are it's basically "Khorne can't spill blood if they can't catch you!"
Perfect example of why Knights of the Realm are all you really need in a Bretonnia campaign. They're relatively inexpensive for how good they are, they are easy to recruit in large numbers, they only require a Knight's Vow on your Lord, and if you know how to use them they can punch very highly above their weight. You can have some higher tier armies for pushing down capitals and such, or some peasants for defending your borders, but your main armies can and should be composed primarily of these kinds of Knights.

He does that alot nowadays. But im pretty sure its got something to do with the way that unit ”flags” are smaller in WH3. Those things make a seasoned WH2 player go nuts
I usually like to take out the enemy’s cavalry, siege engines and ranged infantry (in that order and level of threat), before then sandwich- and rear-charging the infantry with several divisions of knights (arranged in an arrowhead formation of three knight units in lance formation with a Lord or hero at the tip).
Great play by Legend as usual. But the AI seems broken. Especially at the beginning of the battle while taking care of the knights. The rest of the enemy forces was doing absolutely nothing! I swear in WH2 they would have started moving aggressively towards the bulk of the forces instead.
FYI Legend, I was trying to turn on notifications for your channel, but it says this is disabled along with other features as it's a "made for kids" channel. I don't know if you are aware of this already, but if you are then please ignore. Its a bit annoying that I can't turn on notifications though! (Although I check your channel every day anyway so not a huge problem for me!)
Big Cavalry armies just aren't very fun to play IMO. Too much time and too much work. Meanwhile other factions you can more or less set-and-forget and just let them autokill most enemy forces. It's really too bad you can't get a Riders of Rohan kind of cavalry that just smashes through enormous clumps of infantry without ever being slowed down or hung up.

Dude the reason he’s micromanaging so hard is because he’s using the knights of the realm which are literally tier 3 cavalry units. If he had grail knights or hippo knights he could’ve done exactly what you said.
I think it’s so sad that Bretonnia got done dirty by TWW’s mechanics and interactivity. TWW has truly terrible and (more importantly) unrewarding micro, I play SC2 and actually somewhat enjoy its micro because it’s responsive and I don’t feel like I’m fighting the game, which is the case with TWW3. On the other hand very few strategy games nailed the power of a monster crashing into a line of infantry or a line of guns blasting your enemies into peices quite as well as TWW3. So of course a faction without either of those things and which exemplifies the worst of TWW3 is very unpopular. Never mind that the most vocal group and a large portion of the player base are at least a little into warhammer fantasy, in which brettonia was also very unpopular. On the other hand if they made the game faster, more responsive, and actually made cavalry charges devastating in the same way they were in real life I think bretonnia might actually become fairly popular.
This, this is why I absolutely do not recruit cavalry. He's using more micro on five units than I have the capability of with an entire army. I thrive in defensive engagements with artillery, missile units, and magic (Hence, why Chaos Dwarfs and Cathay are my mains in campaign, with Dwarfs and Skaven being second place), but give me a cav unit and I WILL lose it. At most, I'll use it to distract an enemy force and sacrifice it because the vast majority of my attention is on the main engagement. The culmination of my cav tactics are charging them in and letting them fight it out, the opposite of what you want to use them for, but I just don't have the mental capacity to do anything else. One of main exceptions is ironically flying cavalry, like Doom Knights and Longma Riders (Even though they're trash in campaign imo) which I use only for taking out artillery. After that, I don't use them again.
I love the channel but i have to admit i'm starting to lose interest in the videos because the AI is so passive and broken. In wh2 it was way less passive so you could get visually pleasing combat more often, even if it was still dumb as rocks.
This video is why I dislike Bretonnia: - Very strong army, a slog to play, doesn't have other strats than cav spam (on higher difficulties) - Kinda dependent on map/AI behaviours. Picking on brain dead AI is fun once in a blue moon, not every battle. - No replenishment whatsoever. IIRC Bret only has 1 way to increase replenishment rate which is a follower that give whopping 3% increase, only works when equipped on Lord and only has a chance to drop on loss/draw. Doesn't help that your enemies are in red territories so it's a grindfest from start til finish. CA updated bret solely on battle and completely ignore the issues with their campaigns, and it won't be addressed anytime soon so bret will stay boring just like they did in W2.
@@DIEGhostfish Yeah my bad is miss that, still not enough since their tech or lords' skills don't give any last I checked. Still having to go to red territories negate that (+30 vs -50 iirc). I think this is the big issues because every fight has to be efficient or you just get grinded down, can't auto resolve easy battle cuz it nukes 1/3 of my army, can't yolo charged into shit unit cuz cheat and lobsided damage etc. Guess I'll just stick with gangbang Fay in the meantime.
