I am a native Texan of 71 years. I have lived in Texas my entire life ( except military time overseas) and can really relate to this song. I’m the middle child of 3. After 9/11, my family moved from San Diego to Oklahoma, where my mothers family is from. I had just turned 16. My father worked for American Airlines so they moved him to New York, which is why we moved to Oklahoma. My mother asked me to help her drive the uhaul. That’s the only time I spent with my mother alone and I’ll never forget it. This video is everything and it makes me tear up with memories of driving through Texas. Meeting family, eating, getting gas, etc. Thank you for this.

I am from The Netherlands and have never been to the USA. But this song makes me nostalgic and homesick for Texas. i would very much like to visit and discover the southern states of america one day.

I first heard this song in a gas station in Sedona, AZ. My brothers, cousins, and I were on a mini road trip there. It was October so the air was cool and crisp. We had the windows down and smelled the pine trees along the way. This song always takes me back to that moment, I feel the cool temp and can smell the fresh air. All of us just enjoying being young and having a good time.

Leon Bridges is not just an amazing musician but a fantastic story teller and American treasure.

@2:22 I grew up in West Texas; the region and not the town of West, which is located in Central Texas - go figure. 🤷‍♂️ I recognize many of the locations in the video. From the mountain pass on I-10 where your cross-over from the Mountain to Central time zone, to Golf Course Road exit near Van Horn. Seeing the pecan orchard in the winter reminds me of our family trips out to the orchard right after the first cold snap to gather pecans for our Grandmother's Thanksgiving pecan pie. One of the most amazing the things is the scent of the high desert when it rains. As infrequently as it rains in the Southwest, it is a rare scent like no other in the world. The sweet, earthy scent is as if God had suddenly swung open the doors to Heaven and all of its grace poured over you. From the love, to the loneliness, to the frustration, to the amazing vastness, Leon Bridges has done a wonderful job capturing the nostalgia of growing up in West Texas.

When I moved across the country from alabama I drove through west texas and this song is right on the money. There’s nothing out there except you and the road and while it may not be for everyone it’s definitely an experience I’d recommend.

I remember getting out of Fort Leonard Wood Missouri telling me my next duty station was in Fort Bliss Texas I arrived home in San Antonio for holiday block leave before my leave was over I took my family with me to El Paso Texas I drove for around 10 hours across Texas Seeing all the beauty of the state while this song played on several occasions It felt nice to be back in my home state once I saw the sunset across the mountain range of western Texas I knew nothing could be more beautiful especially with your loved ones next to you
