Here's a rare and candid interview of Khushwant Singh talking to Karan Thapar way back in the year 1999. His wits, courage and unbiased outlook is what make him different from other writers.
A very great man. Impossible not to love and admire him even if you disagree with his views and opinions. He describes us as a nation of sanctimonious humbugs; unfortunately, so true - I am one of those humbugs and have to acknowledge the fact. As a writer and a speaker he communicated in simple but impeccable English. His books should be prescribed text books for English classes in schools.
Langowal telephoned Indira Gandhi on 22.4.84 and requested her to send the Army to save them from Bhindranwale ! Tohra was with him at that time ! (See front page of Hindustan Times of 23.4.84) Subsequently Langowal sent a written request also on 25.4.84 addressed to R K Dhawan , ps to PM Indira Gandhi !!!
, @@Gurpreet-t6k She acted after getting YES from the main leaders of the Sikhs/Akali Dal just like Nehru/Patel did about the Sikhs after getting YES from the Akali leader Tara Singh ,(third grade school teacher-Freedom at Midnight) before 1947, real name Nank Chand Malhotra !
It may be true that he is candid & frank about his bad & good qualities, but those who may have his books & never read or heard his interviews can be very egoistic by nature. Like Mr. Khushwant says that Sanjay was right in forcing rules among the public so when those who have heard him now follow that simple dictum in their own home by disposing 1.old books not read for more than 60 years than we shall keep our house cleaner. 2. By observing love of nature , respecting the environment in all it's aspects , understanding its symbiotic relations rather than demonising nature . Stopping new construction of high concrete buildings, plantings turf lawn for golf or for small tournaments like IPL tamasha instead of natural grass, paving all the ground available resulting in the accumulation of water etc. I don't think Sanjay Gandhi had a correct idea of environmental consciousness it is a science & no young man however polite can just makes rules. It takes a tough mind to study, equally a sensitive mind to absorb all these minds. A mind, & heart in hurry is bound to fail.
He was a Sikh and have been awarded by SGPC. He says that he does not believe in God but that does not mean he is not a Sikh! Also he wrote two volumes of History of the Sikhs and translated large parts of Sri Guru Granth Sahib to English!
He is a born sikh ,truthful writer called spade a spade never spared anybody including himself. Being an atheist doesn't take his identity of being a true sikh.
Hater nobody knows you ,he is a writer par excellence and speaks tottle truth which people like you can't take it .I am a sikh and very proud of his writing skills and his being a sikh👌👌👌👌👌👌
