You are right. I went to a Sherwood Park dealership, advertised a used car at $37897, matched the Stock number. Told him we are serious about this car. I went to a Kia dealership in ON and when I asked for the price of the Telluride, they came back with $1000+ monthly payment. I told them I want price not monthly payment they then came with bi-weekly payment and indicating the interest rate. I asked how much. The GM came with a price about $9k above MSRP. I said to him itemize why this is so high and he did. Over $8K was for 2yrs oil change, some mats and Tyre protection. I told them thanks but no thanks and left. I like dealerships that can be upfront during the sales process, if they aren’t with the sale it could be hell to do warranty work.

I helped my step-grandfather's friend buy a used Nissan Rogue advertised at $18K. They wanted $600 a month for 5 years and said that's what people normally pay for that price of a car. I said sir, 5 years is 60 months, times $600 a month is $36K. How are you going to sell an $18K car for $36K? He claimed because of warranties and interest. Quite bold considering I previously told him that I used to be a car salesman. I then asked my step-grandfather's friend if he had a credit union. Sure enough he did. I then asked if he was pre-approved for a car loan. He said no. Oops, my mistake. I said let's leave and come back after he gets pre-approved for an auto loan through his credit union. Turns out, we didn't need to come back, because his credit union has a car buying service, and he got a new Nissan Rogue slightly more than the used one, at a very low interest rate with a monthly payment that made mathematical sense.

That’s why I’m rebuilding my 2004 1 ton F250. Engine died Dec 2020, and vehicles were ridiculously overpriced. I’m not paying $80,000-$100,000 for the new version, and I’m not buying a 15-20 yr old F150 and downgrading capability - with 300,000km for $15,000 either. About $20,000 total and I’ve got new locally full reman engine and a locally reman trans, both with upgraded internals. All new shocks, new leaf packs, front to back exhaust, cooler line, brake lines, sandblast and paint frame, pull bed and rotted bed rails, 2ft extension on frame (from a welder who stretches for limo), and then an enclosed Uhaul style box. But of work in progress, as I already had 4 kids and then twins just smacked me into oblivion. But using my 1/2 ton little 6ft bed, v6, 2wd truck for the meantime, just half loading my bigger trailer lol. Better than being bent over, and then having to smile and ask them for another pounding if they’d like.

Good luck with that, you should have bought a Toyota. The 85-page Subaru lawsuit says the thermo control valve defect affects 2019-2021 Crosstrek, Forester, Legacy and Outback models (the class vehicles) and can manifest without warning, rendering the vehicles “unsuitable for their intended purpose.” The case alleges the automaker has known of the problem since at least 2021, when it updated the design of the thermo control valves in the wake of numerous failures and a bevy of consumer complaints. Despite its apparent knowledge of the problem, Subaru has failed to fix the thermo control valve issue, with the automaker’s purported remedy, a design update, proving ineffective, the filing says. “As a result, Plaintiffs and Class Members have been forced to pay out of pocket for replacements to their thermo control valve,” the complaint states, accusing Subaru of “[engaging] in a pattern and practice of avoiding its warranty obligations with respect to the Defect.”

The last time I bought a car from a dealership was 12 years ago. I was there for 3 hours. Never again. I've since bought a used vehicle from CarMax (no haggling and price is known before I walk in). My wife bought a Tesla on her phone. It took 2 minutes and she knew the price beforehand.

The finance office at any dealership should never be trusted. They get commission on what they sell you as they are doing your credit check. They sell paint rust protection etc and get like 1500.00 commission. Use your own bank for a bank loan.

I missed dealing my local Saturn dealership, and sad when Saturn was dissolved in 2009. My family had purchased three Saturn vehicles, and liked the "no haggling" policy--the price of the vehicle was the price of the vehicle, and there were no add-on stipulations. If you wanted extras, you bought them, but the vehicle price was not dependent on them. Really miss buying a vehicle with the same no-nonsense as buying a TV or underwear.
@user-sm6lt9mf9t

Yeah and that no haggle policy was a secretly screw customers who were afraid to negotiate policy. For most of the time you never pay MSRP Those prices are inflated and you can usually negotiate lower now that dealers have inventory on their lots again.

One way they are "fighting back" is by just not listing most car prices either on the website or don't post any price on the vehicle (other than cars with a lot of rebates.) Of course, if you are a cash buyer (not financing or leasing) and make the mistake of telling them that at the start, you will not get the listed price - ever.

Its not just Kia. It's most dealerships. Usually a salesman won't make more than $50-100 on an MSRP deal. There's about $0-900 margin from invoice, all of which the dealership keeps thru PACs (protection against commission). The salespeople must sell the over MSRP however they can in order to make a paycheck. Unfortunately at the expense of the consumer.. but that's just the way it is in the car biz. (Unless your talking luxury cars with bigger margins built in).

They didn’t break the law,but the fact you have no choice but to purchase it, is a no-no for me - unless you custom order it w/o dealership add ons if they allow it.If you have them removed (chances are the person will scratch the clearcoat), chances are they will say no.
