Glad you liked the review! Yes, hopefully it won't be long and there should be a dedicated review of the Meridian system too; aiming for late April - keeping our fingers crossed :)
Thanks for the review , one question though I have an e208 GT 2021 moving from a Zoe Ionic without the subwoofer, however sound wise the e208 is very much closer to a 128ti BMW series 1 I drove between the 2 cars with the premium HC system . Did you use the “ loudness “ optioned ticked on your e208 review ?
I test drove most main stream EVs and every Lexus (for reference). Tesla M3 is not a quiet car due to the rough suspension. I found the ID4 and EV6 more serene.
Picked up an EV6 Air today and i must say the standard audio system is actually pretty nice. I came from a Proceed GT-Line 2020 and it had a 7 speaker system which just sucked, bass was sent to the rear speaker that only provide 10 watts rms while the front speakers provide 35 watts rms. had my fader set to F10 and the bass to +10 to get some decency of the system, doors rattle like **** and the overal soundstage was terrible for a 40,000$ car. However now that i own an EV6, the first thing i looked at was the audio system. I was really suprised about the loudness and cleaness compared to my Proceed, volume goes to 75 max (45 before) and eq settings can be maxed out without distortion. I'm gonna add a subwoofer because as clean as the system is, i feel like it needs a bit more punch. using a test tone app i found out that the system goes down to 25Hz which is actually really good. I'll add more updates to this coment when i've finishes installing my subwoofer and amp.
The amplifier software apparently has a bug and there's an update but you have to take it to the dealer. Afterwards, sounds like a different sound system. Someone made a video about it
Some specs come with acoustic glass. Bad on Kia for not making that clear. But it explains why some reviews call this a quiet car, some remark that it's a bit loud at speed. Would be useful if more reviewers were aware of this.
Do you think it sounds "bad"? I read some people are really disappointed. I am not an audiophile but I want some bass and for it to not sound distorted. I current have a Seat Leon with "Seat sound" which is 8 speakers and I think it sounds fine. Do you have any knowledge of that system to be able to compare it?
70-74 dB at highway speeds is disappointing. Any car over US $50,000 must have excellent noise isolation and do have no more than 65 dB noise inside at high way speeds, otherwise what is the point?
Obviously every measurement from different sources can be hard to compare and contrast. Indeed its competitors provide a quieter cabin, but still, the EV6 isn't bad.
I have had the Ev6 GT line for 4 mounth's and im quit disappointed with the sound quality, a had a 10 year old bmw 5 serie (E61) and it had better sound in it, it has almost no bass, and way to little amplifier. I would guess 300 watt tops. Im thinking about buying aftermarket speakers and amplifiers, but it doesent feel good taking apart a new car.. 😔 I only bought the GT because of the "great stereo" for the 7000$ Extra i really had higher expectations.. No premium sound in my epinion.. 🤷♂️
The GT-Line, which presumably you have, just like the one on review shouldn't be any different from the 6-speaker Air line - unless you're referencing the top-spec GT model? Nevertheless, try adding a few notches to the bass EQ, to get a better mid-bass response. Check our written review for more details.
@@TotallyEV In the US, the GT-Line is the same as our GT-Line S. It comes with meridian, cameras, auto parking etc. Their Wind is our Air, but they can add a tech pack that gives a lot of the GT-Line S features. I've taken a GT-Line S out for a drive in the UK and didn't like the Meridian sound much.. The dealer had left the default surround settings on - I turned all that stuff off and jacked the bass up a bit, but it still didn't sound great to my ears. It was refined but lacked punch.
Too little bass? let me turn that around. other systems have too MUCH bass. This is the first system where I didn't have to turn the bass EQ down to -8 to get a clear sound out of it in more bassy songs. I think it sounds clear, wide and loud enough. Not enough from the amplifier. I don't know how loud you want your music to be. But it gets pretty loud in my case. You really think you pay 7000 for that speaker system alone? Judging by the hardware and all you get besides the sound system for the trim level... the speakers are probably between 300 and 600 euros at most. I went for the top trim for the WHOLE package, not just for the audio system and I am pleased with how it sounds. By the way. I use wired for the maximum sound quality (bluetooth audio sucks) and it improved clarity a ton in my case.
I get that, play sound bytes from a variety of genres so we can get a sense of the stereo. I’m more interested in what the base sounds like as it relates to hip-hop, and I haven’t seen one review that play something different. I understand hip-hop not being for everyone; however, a more wholistic review would sample multiple genres of music. People are typically playing the same style of music and it doesn’t inform a wide audience watching the videos. Just my thoughts.
