I have one of these. The '4' spec, top spec in the UK. Its a great car. The only downside is the failure to increase the max charge speed but for many people who rapid charge very infrequently, it is a minor issue. Just means an extra 15 minutes dawdling over a coffee a couple of times a year.

@@ulf5738 I dont know what it costs elswhere. Here it costs around 4'500.-- Swiss Francs more than the pre face-lift cost two years ago. However, you get a Ioniq 5 for just 3k more...

Have this car for 7+ months now and I love it. When I was buying it the cost was around 40k€ (TM3 was 55 and TMY was more than 60) so the choice was obvious. Right now when the Niro jumped to 46 and TMY dropped to 49 I would probably go for TMY. Having said that, I do not regret buying Niro the range is perfect for everyday use since it easy fit family of 5. For 7 months I had to use DC only 3 times and even then I had 50kW chargers avaliable so the DC charging is not a problem. I really like 11kWh AC charger since I am using it every other day. Things I do not like are the headlights which are IMO poor, maps which are just bad and the voice control which have not worked even once ;)

I have the old niro ev 2020 model. Ive been more than happy with it. Did I miss the part where you talk about range? Ive got 340+ km range in winter including alot of motorway driving. And 400 km i summertime (denmark). I think its plenty for most people

You say that the Tesla entrey level is cheaper than the KIA Niro EV. I hear that in multiple videos. What you forget is that each country has different prices and also different packs wich makes it really hard to compare. For example. In the Netherlands the KIA niro has more options then Tesla Model 3.

The refreshed Niro EV looks really good but it's priced at least $10,000 USD higher than it should be. Not only that, but it's recharging speed is inadequately slow. I would have liked to have seen a 10-80% charging test by Kris but I'll take his word that it's 47 minutes which is about 17 minutes too long for new EVs in 2023.

Exactly why I won’t take the plunge just yet. I’m waiting to see how the market shakes out. I don’t NEED a new car at all, so I can wait. But this is a top contender. Whatever we get will be our second electric car.

@@loriallen67 it’s crazy to me that the recharging time is almost identical to your Mustang Mach-E’s despite a pack just 2/3 the size. I don’t know if that’s an indictment of the Niro EV or MME.

@@loriallen67 but the 2023 Niro EV has the advantage of the progress of time & technology. Kia could have leveraged their 800v tech to improve the Niro EV’s charging speeds or at a minimum better optimized the curve. Heck, a Vauxhall Corsa-e maxes out at 100kW and goes 0-80% in 25 mins.

We got a great lease price on one of these (US version), it's a reliable, fantastic daily commuter. You should have tried the "Dynamic" mode for the dash available through the setup menu. It changes according to the time of day (or night) and even shows rain or sun on the drivers display. A few things you said I agree with, others I disagree with. One of my biggest complaints is that sometimes the sun hits the reflective gear shifter and shines right in your eyes. I also think it needs under console storage like the EV6 has and the older Niro EV had. The one feature that surprised me that I really like is the paddle shifters to dynamically control the regen when not in iDrive. Drove the Tesla model 3 and the short story is it's too low to the ground and the insurance cost would have made it considerby more expensive than the Niro. The ID4's infotainment was too weird for us and didn't make sense.

I agree the price is high. Love the Niro EV, but does not price compare well against the competition. The price was so close to the EV6. That we just paid the difference and got the EV6.

Niro’s great, generally, but I must admit you’ve highlighted a few issues that are making me rethink it; charging and motorway noise on longer (say, 300-mile runs, where you’d need at least one top-up charge) journeys. I’m also curious as to what other people think about the mapping and infotainment? Plus the higher spec pricing has gotten dangerously close to EV6 in UK, which is definitely the better car if you’re going to spend upwards of £40k. Really informative and ‘warts and all’ review, Kris!

The trouble with EV6 is the excessive wait. If you compare the top-of-the-range Niro EV it's not a big difference but the 3 trim is under £40k so it's a £5k hike.

You are potentially comparing top spec Niro with bottom spec EV6 'air'. Not really a like for like comparison. They are totally different types of car. The 'air' would be missing a lot of the toys. To compare similar specs, there would still be a sizeable price difference. The Gen5W infotainment in the Niro is the same as in all the Kia's. It's OK but not the best. But I just use Google Maps and Spotify on Android Auto which, now that coolwalk has been released, looks awesome on the big screen.

How Kia miss the entire point of the Niro EV= too long to charge and not increase on what the max input it can take…they took a page out of Chevy with the volt 🤦🏾‍♂️🤦🏾‍♂️. Had they increased it to 150KW minimum ,0-80 in less than 18 minutes and under 30K this car would be a super hot seller .

Hey Kris, just a heads up for when you do an infotainment review on a Mercedes EQ. I was initially disappointed with the MBUX navigation functionality, especially with regards to info on chargers. However, this significantly improved after a couple of days when my Mercedes ME services initialized.

There's a way to have the toggle Climat/Audio controls retain the key buttons from the other one on the left hand side so you don't have to toggle back and forth as much. Also with auto climate Control it's set one and done. Ppl knit pick at that so much for nothing IMO.

My Take: the Niro EV is just a facelift, nothing more. Battery is the same, charging speed remains slow, too much noise, infotainment needs an update. I predict that this EV will not be as popular as its predecessor.

I like the Nero and pre ordered one, but after a test drive I found the seats dreadful, the top sticks in your back 6f+. Then I found I couldn't even get in a EV6 the ceiling being so low.

I’ve done exactly the same mate. Currently have an ETron 50, which goes back in June (business lease that I put through my company). I ordered a Nero EV 4 to replace it. The Nero is now due at the dealer in 4 weeks so I’ll be able to run them next to each other as a comparison for a couple of months (unless Audi financial will be nice and take it back early which I doubt). I first tried the Q4 but the price/spec in comparison is rubbish. The ID3/Born just didn’t feel as nice to me on test and, having 2 dogs, didn’t offer the practicality that the Nero did. Ideally I’d love the Sportage GT Line S but plug in hybrid just doesn’t stack up in comparison for tax offsets etc.. - that in BEV not PHEV would be the ideal for me.

Totally agree. The size and space of the Niro is perfect for my need, and I really like that car. But a model Y for the same price...? Tesla it is. Pricing compared to i.e. Megane though, it's spot on, but that only tells me Niro and Megane is overpriced.

@@nujxad in Norway, Model Y RWD is about same price as Niro EV now. Before Tesla sliced their prices, difference was around $10-12k though. MY LR is now priced about $10k more, but that will not be 2 comparable cars..

The price is quite pretentious. In a world where Chevy Bolt EV and EUV exist for 20k, what Kia is asking for with less range, is ridiculous. They literally need to price this at or slightly above Bolt EUV. Maybe 1K more. 12k more than the EUV is a joke.

I think it's biggest failing is price, it's over-priced for what you get and they should have upgraded the charging rate to be over 100kW plus it cannot tow enough unlike say the BYD Atto 3.

Most people do AC charging on daily basis. 47 minutes or 30 minutes when charging DC doesn’t effect that much for the majority of the people.

The big problem with this car is the range. Even driven modestly in warmer weather it will only do about 240 miles. In colder weather its well under 200 miles - and yes that is in a car fitted with a heat pump! I had to reject mine as it was so much worse that the previous version. Stay away!

This is my gripe with RU-vid car reviewers! The battery percentage can be found by simply swiping up or down on the split screen. To the right hand side. If you were an actual owner you would have taken the time to study the cars systems and not been so quick to judge!! 😡😡

Don’t think buying and owning every car just to review it is practical in any sense of the word, so it until somebody invents another way you are stuck with the next best thing. With that being said, having to swipe on the right side of the screen for SOC is still not anywhere near good enough. It should be in the gauge cluster in front of the driver, not hidden if to the right having to swipe. The infotainment system is still probably the worst one out there. And the advantage about us who do this for a living is that we drive all different cars and can give you an unbiased opinion about what is good and not good.

Even Tesla Y is cheaper than this Niro EV in Exclusive version. This car is ridiculously overpriced. Anymore buying this one needs to get of their meds.
