I know what you mean about cheap cross bars. It took me 2-3 hours to install just one ai gave up. I have a 2017 soul. Just got OEM ones for Christmas can’t wait to install. Thanks for the great video!
Thank you for explaining this. I didn't even realize my Soul had the "rack" to put cross bars on. I thought they were just trim pieces! but now I know and will attempt this (or have someone less ignorant do it).
Watched this AFTER I had already bought a cheap-o on Amazon. Couldn't 'figger' out how to put the skillion screws & pieces together, some of which were missing.....sent it back and got a genuine Kia rack. Outta' the box - just the 2 racks and 2 bases to put together. The Kia rack is so simple and logical, you could mount without instructions. MAIN TAKEAWAY FROM THIS VIDEO: Spend the extra money on a genuine Kia rack and save hours of grief. Also, all the numerous nuts and bolts holding the cheap-o's together makes for a potentially less structurally sound rack over time.

I have a 2017 Kia soul. I bought some cheap ones thinking I would save money and they were a bear trying to install in fact I was only able to do one because it took me about four hours to do it. So now I am going to break down and buy the OEM kind. Arabe seems to think that they’re easy to install so I hope they are. I’ve watched a lot of videos of the OEM install and yours is the best thank you so much

HEY HELP ANYONE...WHAT DO U CALL THE LITTLE THINGS HE HAD TO POP UP & TAKE OFF TO GET BAR ON? THE COVERS? My mother in law has 2014 kia soul & needs 2 . 2 covers are gone. I cant find them on line.
Those little plastic covers/moldings... I popped one off in the spirit of ‘exploring’ my new Soul... how do I get it back on?? I am having a lot of trouble...
measured 48" long by 38" wide and about 4" tall. No longer have link to it as I bought it well before the Kia. I ended up taking it off of the Kia due to strong winds on the southern plains...it caught just enough additional air on windy days to make highway driving fun..
How do you think it will hold up over time? I didn’t want to be cheap and get the off brand after watching your other video. Has it been holding up well under heavy weight too? I wanted to install one for when I go camping.
honestly I don't know, I have not seen one of the Soul's with a sunroof, does any of the apparatus stick up when it's open or opening? That would be the first concern I would have. Also, a full rack on top might create weird wind/turbulence if it's open at higher speed or high wind day
@@workingdad I need to look because I rarely open in it - probably less than 5 times in 8 years - I open it just to make sure it still works. I just like the light it gives off. My research is showing that in Canada, they put roof rails for this very reason but in the US, they do not. Weird. Looks like Thule makes the necessary parts because KIA does not. I am ditching my Subaru Outback - it is just too big for me and too much electronics - I am pretty tired of all the damn beeping ;-)
I’m confused why so many call the roof rack , the roof rails. My daughter bought a 2021 KIA Telluride LX basic model with no roof rails, plain roof. Every time I go online to find out if I can install “rail”, it throws me over to roof racks. Frustrating!
they are rails, just rails that are fixed in one position, no adjustment option. typically adjustable ones have a track underneath, and the rails slide or can be moved to multiple positions on that track. the rack is what's on top of the rails. I've only taken it through a touchless automatic car wash, I don't thing the contact type brushes/rollers would do well with the rails or rack, good chance of getting caught
So this is probably way too late to help you, but I had a hard time finding bolts or my own DIY unistrut rack for my Soul. The closest I could find was a size 12 (between 10 and 1/4 standard). Lowe's didn't have that size bolt. Had to go to a nut and bolt warehouse near me to find them. Hope this helps anyone else looking to go the DIY route
try some one of the dealers that sells online? kinda similar thing going on with Ford, there are a few dealers that have online sales, I've bought ford parts from a dealer in nevada. I think this kia dealer was in Florida
