The 2024 Kia Sportage Hybrid is finally here. When it comes to petrol-electric mid-size SUVs, the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid has ruled the roost since its arrival in May 2019, with its delivery wait times since then often exceeding 12 months. Point being, it's boom time for petrol-electric family cars for five years now.
That said, the Sportage Hybrid is arguably fashionably late, but that doesn't mean it's not looking to make its presence felt. Its 'self-charging' parallel hybrid system combines a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine and a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission with an electric motor, with the front-wheel-drive combination delivering a combined 169kW of power and 350Nm of torque.
In this expert review, CarsGuide Senior Journalist Richard Berry puts the most affordable Sportage Hybrid, the mid-spec SX, to test to find out if it has the RAV4 Hybrid beat after all these years.
