One thing to note about using scrapers to finish your stock vs. sandpaper. I heard Mitch Yates speak and he says a scraped stock will take stain better than a sanded stock. I'll be looking into the versa vise, looks like a nice setup.

A very good selection of tooling! The only thing I would suggest is that you get a vice where the jaws can be adjusted for parallel as most things you do on a gun are tapered, they are sold as gunmakers/guitar makers vice, and not very expensive, the inletting black you have I find an awful product on wood, being a grease based product it goes everywhere, the simple sooty candle is a far better thing to use from my experience. Good luck on your build, these Kibler kits look like they are already completely made, and only need fitting together, so it should present no real building skills, Chris B.

All good things for a build project! However, one really important item you have left out is an angle jaw "pattern makers/guitar maker vice, you will find that most things you need to hold in a gun build are not parallel, so one of these is essential, you will wonder how you got by without one for years, they are quite cheap, but essential, the main spring vice needs to be applied to the spring when the lock is at full cock, but I am sure you know that, good luck with your build, and enjoy, this will be the first of many, s you will get good use from your tools! I haven't put together a gun yet, but I'm an avid woodworker and have both the Narex and Pfeill chisels. I have some of the high end Narex Richter (the same as your 1/8") and a set of the basic Narex chisels. The basic Narex are a pretty good deal in sets...like $10-$15 per chisel. They can use a little touching up out of the box, but don't require much work. The Pfeill like the Richter are a joy to use...good choice. I think they compare favorably to $80.00+ Veritas and Lie-Nielsen. I like tools too. I really want a Barr framing chisel even though I have no apparent need for one.

Good to know I made a good choice with my chisels from someone with woodworking experience! I looked up the Barr framing chisel you mentioned and I think I need one too..

How do you like your versa-vise? Considering purchasing one but have seen some negative reviews. Enjoy your videos.

Thanks for watching! I like the vise pretty well. It’s not as good as a expensive gunsmith vise it it works well for what I’m doing with it. I did buy a set of OTIS magnetic rubber jaws (little big but the work) and they made a big difference www.midwayusa.com/product/102244077?pid=658118&

Is Swiss Made the brand name of the chisels, or is it something else? I see the 1/8” is a Narex, but your 1/4” looks different.

Hi Jason.. the other chisels are Pfeil “Swiss Made”. Really nice chisels much higher quality than my skill level can support!

Hello Sir nice to meet you my name is Tony. Where did you get the second swivel joint for the multi vise. I found the standard vise itself on Amazon but not the extra swivel. Thanks for your time
@completepete
@completepete 10 месяцев назад
Hi Tony! I bought my vise from Jonmar Gear & Machine. They built their vise from the original drawings and sell the accessories. This is the website jonmargear.com/versa-vise/ They have the optional versa vise swivel base adapter you are looking for.

Do you still need a tap for lock bolts?
@completepete
@completepete 3 года назад
I don’t think you need the 8/32 tap but I already had it based on the original tool list. I wanted to have it in case I had to clean up any threads.

Where did you pickup the vise?
@completepete
@completepete 2 года назад
I ordered it from Versa Vise wilburtversavise.com I liked that an original employee bought the drawings and now makes the vises. You can also get one from Grizzly Tools or the Shop Fox vise from the wood smith store. Thewoodsmithstore.com. I recently invested in a set of Otis soft rubber jaw pads from Midway. Pricy but we’ll worth it for stock work. I damaged my stock trying to use home made padding.

unfortunately they are sold out of the vise, and the vise stand, they do have the swivel adapter tho lol To buy the set up you have is $165. plus tax ans shipping I assume. would be a great vise for my shop though, will keep an eye on it to see when it comes back in stock. Thanks for the heads up 🙂
