Excellent! This is exactly what I needed. Thank you! I want to mention that Stack Overflow said it can't be done. Good thing I questioned that finding

Question everything all the time. I'm still learning that things I once believed were impossible turn out to be doable!

Hi John! First of all huge thanks for awesome videos! Do you know if is it possible to create/change numeration to something like DD1.1 or D1.2 in KiCad?
@JohnsBasement
@JohnsBasement 2 года назад
I'm not sure what you are referring to here. In what context? Signal names? Part References? Pin numbers? Honestly, for these, I don't know. THis might be better asked on the kicad .info groups.

It would have been nice to see how to add the common power pins to this part - I am having a hard time finding that little item. I found it a few years ago, but forgot how to do it.

You can create a unit that just has the power pins on it. Otherwise you can put a 'common pin' on the part that has N instances (a, b, c,...) that all have the same pin number. I find the latter looks uglier in the drawing. schematic.

Hi John , I don't suppose you could point me in the direction of some info on how to split a part which I have downloaded into two units in the schematic editor? It's currently a single 45 pin symbol and I want a copy with it split in two. Cheers for the great content!

Unless it is really ornate, I would probably start from scratch. But I suppose you could make a copy of it in the symbol editor and then start editing it to make what you want out of it.

@@JohnsBasement Thanks for the quick reply! Yeah a redo might be the way to go, it's only 45pins

ok ok... i am not the sharpest rock in the pyle... what does "foo" mean? thanks, great video...:)
@JohnsBasement
@JohnsBasement 3 года назад
Foo? It is a computer science name for a thing such as a 'widget'
@JohnsBasement
@JohnsBasement 3 года назад
Sorry if that's too literal. (Been a bit under the weather) by calling a component/part a "foo" or a "widget" I'm saying not to care what it might appear that role the component's apparent function could apply to a design and ONLY focus on its units and how kicad refers to them in (re)annotation in case you care which phycal part the units are assigned to etc.

You have Unit A and Unit B but you also called your pins pin A and pin B, which made the discussion confusing.

Awww dang!!! I didn't realize I did that. You are right. I could have avoided that possible confusion. Sorry anout that choice. 😕
