Kickback Custom & Retro Bike Show 2022 [Life Behind Bars] Motorcycles at Gloucester Prison
In this episode we take a trip to the KickBack Life Behind Bars show, held in Gloucester Prison.
We do like to get to shows when we can, recent ones include the Carole Nash Classic Bike show and Sports Cars in The Park. I always want to get to custom shows but the last one I had been to was Bike Shed 2019, pre pandemic.
It is great to see what other people have been doing to their vehicles, it can be very inspirational and you can see some ideas that you may use. At most classic shows it is the attention to detail that stands out, but at custom shows for me it is the engineering and imagination that impresses.
As Gloucester Prison is quite a long way from home, for us anyway :) We decided to have a night over in the Campervan. We found a great park up near Tewksbury, it was actually just by the site of the Battle of Tewkesbury, 1471, one of the decisive battles in British history where the crown changed hands. We had a quieter time backed up to the river Avon.
Gloucester Prison stopped being a working prison in 2013, and now is a venue for tours, paintball and shows. A lot of the cells and landings are just as they were during the time that it was being used, and it does seem a fitting backdrop to a custom show. The main part of the show was spread over a number of prison wings, with bikes in the corridors and some of the larger rooms. It made for a really great atmosphere.
Some of the displays were outside, and the carpark had an amazing array of bikes that people had ridden in on. It was lucky that it was a nice day.
We saw some fantastic bikes with some great ideas. I always get the urge to put one of my bikes in a show when I attend one like this, but I never seem to have a finished project at the right time. Maybe the cafe build I am doing at the moment may get a showing in the future.
